Friday Chart Predictions
Their overall worldwide album sales for this will definitely be lower than their last release, Death Magnetic, in 2008. There are a number of reasons to explain that though. The gap between albums may have been longer this time (it was only five years between St. Anger and DM) but one thing to consider is that Death Magnetic marked a return to a style of music (thrash metal) which Metallica had not released a whole album of since 1989. There was a real excitement and buzz around that in the metal community. Moreover, St. Anger was critically panned, so DM was a real return to form. There was an eight year gap this time, yes, but Metallica have very much kept themselves busy during that period, releasing an EP, a collaboration with Lou Reed (the largely terrible 'Lulu') and a 3D film, 'Through The Never'. Put simply, while this album has been very well received, the level of hype was nowhere near what it was for Death Magnetic. However, keeping in mind this is in a climate of lower albums sales, they have STILL sold enough for them to have topped the album charts in 57 countries with this latest release. Fair play to Little Mix for halting them in the UK, but on a worldwide scale they really have not underperformed at all. There are very few rock bands - and no other metal bands - who could even approach that chart performance.

Little Mix are certainly bucking the trend for the No. 1 album worldwide this week - Metallica's album is currently at No. 1 in 57 countries, top three in 75 countries and top five in 105 countries :o https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcomi...tml?no_takeover

Ugh I hope Metallica can take it, always a sad day to see manufactured groups topping the album charts (the single charts died a long time ago though so they're a lost cause). I guess the one ray of sunshine is that in thirty years time Little Mix won't be together and will be a historical footnote, rather than still selling out stadiums and pushing for No. 1 albums - with none of the promotion that their rivals get ;)

Has been five years since their last album unfortunately lol!

Friday Chart Predictions (Thurs Update + Top 5 Sales)
They've sold 85 million albums and sell out stadiums all over the world, as they have done for nearly 40 years. It's hardly surprising.

Very little chance of that. Iron Maiden has been the No. 1 best seller on Amazon for a couple of weeks based on pre-orders alone - and that's just the deluxe edition, not even counting the basic edition, special edition vinyl or downloads. They have this one in the bag, and rightfully so.

Unbelievable, A7X got the No. 1 album! :yahoo: That is simply huge for metal because it proves that new (in genre terms) bands are attracting large enough followings to top the charts, and not just the older acts like Metallica, Sabbath and Maiden. Even better that they beat Naughty Boy to the top, who had a huge Ho. 1 single!

The idea that an album by a flavour of the month rapper will be more remembered years down the line than an album by one of the biggest bands in metal, who you will only hear of even more over the next 20 years, truly tickles my funny bone.

SABBATH! A proper band at the top of the albums chart ^_^

It's bugger all to do with that, mate. I'm 23 and bought the deluxe edition on release day. Going to see them on tour as well and most of the people I know who have bought tickets are under 30. It's just timeless, brilliant metal music, you don't have to be a father or an old man to appreciate that

Great to see Slash there without a physical release (I'm pretty sure the magazine fanpack isn't chart eligible?). Joe at the top of the albums chart as well! Doubt he'll hang on to it but I hope he does, great talent.

Where is Metallica's 'Beyond Magnetic' EP? The physical version is 23rd on Amazon but isn't anywhere to be found here - is it not eligible?

Is Metallica's "Beyond Magnetic" EP showing up anywhere? Wouldn't be too surprising if not seeing as they released it at a days notice without telling anyone other than their immediate fanbase...

I'm shocked that Nightwish's album is even Top 40! Considering how well Within Temptation did earlier this year, I thought Nightwish would have topped them.

Can any girl band be successful in the long-term? As soon as their good looks fade and their kiddy fanbase move on, all girl/boy bands are doomed to fail eventually.
