  1. Resident Evil 5 and Assassins Creed 2 ahead of Halo: Reach in the games chart?! Something has got to be wrong there! Halo is a huge franchise, one of the biggest in gaming, and was just released this week - but Resi 5 and AC2 have been out for ages?

The 80s for me because of the speed at which metal music began to evolve and grow. Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest - all had their finest moments during the 80s. And then, of course, my favourite band, Guns N' Roses, came from the 80s. Plus all the 70s rock acts were still going strong, like Deep Purple, Rush, Aerosmith etc.
  3. The fact this looks like it's debuting at No. 2 on the albums chart - behind a band who have only been successful for a couple of years - says a lot about how much of their fanbase Linkin Park have lost over the past few years.

Hybrid Theory is the second highest selling album of the last decade, so that says something about LP's fanbase. They're nowhere near as strong now as they were at first though, for two reasons: 1) Nu-metal is no longer a commercial juggernaut 2) Their massive change in style over the past two albums has lost them legions of fans
  5. First listen through of the album and it is just as bad as I feared. I don't understand how you can call this a coherent record in any shape or form - 15 tracks and only 47 minutes long? Far too much filler, and the only consistent concept is 'a thousand suns' being repeated over several songs. The only two songs I enjoyed were Wretches And Kings and Burning In The Skies, and even they were average at best. The rest of the record is literally atrocious, it just sounds like a child experimenting with eJay. There's no hook or melody, effects all over the place - it just sounds like a Mike record tbh. I'd be shocked if Chester has as much say in Linkin Park's current musical direction as Mike does. He's barely audible on this record. Really, really disappointed in this album. I've got nothing against bands experimenting, but only if they know what they're doing. It is blatantly obvious on this album that Linkin Park do not have a f***ing CLUE what they're doing with this new direction. It's all over the place, it's weak and one of the worst attempts at a concept album I've ever heard. Here's a tip for Linkin Park - stick to what your f***ing good at. 2/10

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say Robert Plant. Why you ask? Because his album is currently No. 2 on Amazon's album chart (only behind The XX), with The Script at No. 5 and Linkin Park at No. 31. Having said that, Linkin Park have far larger fanbase than The Script and Robert Plant (solo), although with the absolutely abysmal quality of the lead single and the album having already leaked, that fanbase is sure to dwindle. It really is a terrible album and I think a lot of LP fans won't buy it. It's going to be a very close battle, but for me, it's between Robert Plant and The Script.

He's a complete idiot for this, but the media need to share responsibility for the massive $h!tstorm it's turned into. This was a small congregation of 50 nutters who are not representative of, well, anyone but themselves basically. The press shouldn't be giving these people the time of day - it's irresponsible reporting as far as I'm concerned, because if he HAD have went ahead with this, it could have seen worldwide violence and backlash. Heck there's protests and violence in Afghanistan today anyway, even though it didn't happen! That's the downside of living in a media saturated world - word travels quickly, even if it shouldn't.
  8. Lol pop "revolution" By it's very definition, pop music has always been around. But with very FEW exceptions, it is a singles chart entity and extremely disposable - there are very few pop acts who can transcend decades and trends like all the greatest rock and metal acts. They'll also never make the same impact on the album charts, or on the live circuit.
  9. AC/DC and Iron Maiden both got No. 1 albums this year, while Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine and Disturbed last week all achieved Top 10 placings. Rock/metal music has never been particularly strong in the singles chart. The late 80s and early 90s was it's commercial peak, but it's always been mainly a draw in the albums charts and the live circuit. A band like Metallica could play to sold-out arenas literally anywhere in the world; let's see Taio Cruiz get anywhere near that level of success!

I was in Gibraltar recently and the petrol there is about £0.89! Aren't the coalition supposed to be introducing some sort of flexible petrol tax though? Like when the price of crude oil goes up, petrol tax goes down, and vice versa? It won't really make any petrol cheaper, but it should at least stop these fluctuations.

Disturbed - thrash metal? Yeah they've got a bit heavier but they're nowhere near thrash...
  12. Yeah but 'The Catalyst' doesn't really use samples or turntables. It is, in it's entirety, a dance and electronica track. It's not like Reanimation, which made more use of electronic effects but maintained the basic guitar/bass/drum structure - it's an entirely different beast. 'Wretches And Kings' at least sounds more like Linkin Park, albeit still not being very good.
  13. I didn't mean all music without guitar and drums was no good. I was referring to the fact that Linkin Park, through their whole career, have been ostensibly a rock band, based around those instruments. This is just such a radical shift in direction that they don't even sound like the same band anymore. It would be like if RATM released a new album which was dance and R&B!
  14. My word how chavvy is The Catylyst? What's with the dancey synth beats? No guitar, proper drums? Absolutely useless load of garbage. Oh well, at least they've abandoned all pretence of ever being even remotely 'metal'. Let's leave that to the proper metal bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden etc.
  15. There will always be some 'classic' tracks from virtually every genre and era of music. But I think there will be fewer from the noughties, there are just not as many songs released these days that have cross-genre appeal. A lot of 80s rock bands still have huge popularity even today - such as Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Journey etc. - but today's modern R&B acts are generally despised by everyone who isn't a follower of the charts or 12 years old.
  16. Albums: Disturbed - Asylum
  17. Simple - nobody watches it anymore. In it's golden years people of all ages would watch TOTP, because the charts were representative of so many tastes and genres, but now they're dominated primarily by R&B and rap, whose primary buyers are young teens. There isn't a big enough audience to warrant it going back on TV, because the charts simply aren't as varied anymore.
  18. Might buy the new Apocalyptica and Black Label Society albums!

Gah first show and already someone else has murdered 'Don't Stop Believing'. What pisses me off is that they probably hadn't even heard of it before the X-Factor and Glee popularised it last year.

Jedward were entertaining because their act came across as an 'invasion' of a genuine talent competition. I firmly believe that Cowell et al. had planned it that way, as a method of drawing in the viewers who didn't actually like X-Factor but just wanted to see these two eejits make a mockery of themselves and the show on live television.

I'd love to see an act like Chris Daughtry on the UK show. Someone with a properly good rock voice, not like that Jamie fella...
  22. Iron Maiden No. 1 album! Might actually listen to the chart show this Sunday if they play a song from the No. 1 album...do they still do that? And what point in the chart rundown do they do the albums?
  23. ags_rule posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
I think sometimes with huge acts they give singles away for free as a way of hyping up the album. I mean an Iron Maiden is always gonna sell huge amounts, so in many ways giving the lead single away for free just helps spread word about the album. They're not exactly a singles band anyway!

LOL @ Iron Maiden's 'El Dorado' at No. 921 - it's been a free download on their website for months!
  25. Singles: Eminem ft Rihanna - Don't usually like this sort of music but this track is actually very well written Albums: Iron Maiden of course!
