  1. Y'all got the wrong end of the stick regarding Guitar Hero/Rock Band downloads. The vast majority of tracks offered as DLC for those games are new releases or stuff a little too obscure or an acquired taste to take up space on the main disc. Stuff like Livin' On A Prayer, Sweet Child O'Mine and all those old classics will almost always be included on the disc and so wouldn't count towards the charts. However, it could prove very helpful for new rock/metal bands who don't make as big of an impact on the charts as they could if these downloads were included. I know that Metallica and Guns N' Roses latest albums were both released on Rock Band/Guitar Hero, although they went to No. 1 and No. 2 on the album charts anyway even without that. Bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine could certainly see the benefits though.
  2. Yes it's interesting you say that. Iron Maiden's new album is in all probability heading to No. 1 next week but they've released two singles already, both as free downloads! Established acts just aren't interested in the singles chart anymore.
  3. The charts have always had their fads. 70s - Disco 80s - Hair metal 90s - Britpop and boy/girlbands Early 00s - Nu-metal and rap Late 00s - Indie and R&B/Urban The one thing in common is that the singles charts always reflect what the kids are into. I think the singles charts are more dominated by one genre now though than they ever have been before. I mean even back in the 80s and 90s we had bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden and Guns N' Roses getting consistent Top 10 hits, but there's just no promotion for rock or metal music anymore!

Nice read! :) Amazing to see GNRs Greatest Hits back in the Top 40, the longevity of that album is amazing. I don't think any classic band can boast of a greatest hits that sells consistently so well.
  5. Albums: Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier UP THE IRONS!

LOL, learn about some real metal/rock music, kid. Iron Maiden are ten times the band Linkin Park have ever been. And a thousand times the band The Saturdays will ever be, for that matter.

Iron Maiden are released on Monday and have both editions of their album on Amazon's best-sellers chart at 8th and 15th place. There's not a chance of The Saturdays getting a No. 1 album!

Er, no, it just proves that autotune exists.
  9. Bands like LP, Limp Bizkit, Green Day and Papa Roach helped me get into heavier stuff when I was older, without a doubt. I think that's the same for a LOT of people out there. I'm nearly 21 now so I was literally just hitting adolescence when the nu-metal explosion happened. First high-school 'party' I ever went to, aged 12, had a soundtrack consisting of Limp Bizkit (laughing naughtily at all the swear words), Nickleback and Linkin Park. Kids today would have a soundtrack of Lady Gaga, Eminem and Rihanna. And because of that, I'm glad I grew up when I did - but I guess everyone looks back on their teenage years in the same way. As I grew older I fell in love with bands like Guns N' Roses (who remain my favourite band to this day), Metallica (who I've seen live twice), AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, all the classics. I do still love the 'classic' rock/metal bands the best, but there's a lot of awesome new music out there as well that my musical journey helped me discover. Bands like Black Label Society, The Answer, And So I Watch You From Afar, LaFaro, Trouble, Avenged Sevenfold, Gogol Bordello...I really, truly believe that if I hadn't have connected with bands as dire as Limp Bizkit at the age of 12, I wouldn't have went on to discover all the awesome music I love today.

But if they had have sided with Labour in a coalition of the losers, they STILL wouldn't have introduced the so-called 'Robin Hood Tax', because Labour would have their own interests to defend. That's why, as has always been the case, a vote for the Lib Dems is nothing more than a protest vote. If you really support them you should be glad they're in SOME form of government and able to get a number of their policies through, as opposed to the usual twiddling their thumbs in constant opposition.

Labour wouldn't have done ANYTHING different regarding the banks. If you think that you are seriously deluding yourself.
  12. Linkin Park have completely lost their way. They've changed style totally, and not for the best either - they've instead decided to clone whatever is popular at the moment. Anybody who thinks 'The Catalyst' sounds anything like Linkin Park is deluding themselves.
  13. Albums (Downloads) Black Label Society - Order Of The Black
  14. Iron Maiden top of album pre-orders, would be shocked if they didn't get the No. 1 album :cheer:

Definitely a pricing error - that goes in charity shops for 50p :P

You could be right. Eminem, love him or loathe him, is one of the highest selling artists of the new millenium. Personally I think his new material his terrible, he's a shadow of his former self who came out with clever stuff like 'Stan', but he's obviously a smart businessman, which is why he incorporated R&B into his style to reflect its current chart domination. He may very well regain No. 1 a few times, but I think he'll definitely drop for Arcade Fire this week and Iron Maiden 2 weeks after.

Arcade Fire will get a couple of weeks top of the album chart, they're top of virtually every pre-order chart. They'll lose it to Iron Maiden the week after that though!
  18. That sounds like such an awful, dreadful song. What happened to ballsy Linkin Park? That clip makes them sound like every nerdy indie band there ever has been, wandering on stage with guitars and then playing with synthisisers. I'm not suggesting LP should have stayed with the nu-metal sound forever, because that genres time has passed. But they had an option - they could either become harder, or softer. Disturbed and Slipknot chose the harder route, becoming heavier and more technical. Linkin Park have just sounded more and more wussy as the years have gone by, it's pathetic.
  19. Sweet, Iron Maiden No. 2 on album pre-orders. Hoping they beat The Saturdays to top album spot, which I think they will.
  20. Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction thanks to 'Sweet Child O Mine' First single released was 'Nightrain' which didn't trouble the charts at all, but then along came SCOM and everything changed - went from unknown rockers to the biggest band in the world overnight.
  21. This is a brilliant chart! Can't believe all you folks ignoring 'Get The Funk Out', give it a listen if you can, good rocking track with a great chorus. Also Skid Row - Monkey Business at 31! Sebastian Bach is awesome
  22. Buy it today! Amazon MP3 are offering it for £3.99 today only! Usually I only buy physical albums but for that price I couldn't pass it by.

Where's Avenged Sevenfold on the albums? I don't expect them to be too high on iTunes as Amazon MP3 have been offering it for £3.99 today only!

I do believe their last album only released in the UK like half way through the chart week, on a Wednesday. I can't remember exactly what it was, but for whatever reason, only half of their actual album sales counted that week or something. The album went gold anyway. I think they're favourites for the No. 1 album because there's been a huge resurgence in the popularity of hard-rock and metal music over the past few years. Metallica had two weeks at No. 1 with Death Magnetic, AC/DC with Black Ice and even their Greatest Hits Iron Man 2 OST. Plus this week Avenged Sevenfold are looking good for a No. 1 with their new album.
