iTunes Chart: December 2010 (II)
Good to see Corey Taylor still holding up well, hopefully he can get into the Top 40 chart. Great to see the Biffy original so high as well, much better than Matt Cardle's sycofied version. Surfin Bird' won't get to No. 1.

Music Purchases This Week: Week Beginning 13/12/10
What are you talking about? Amazon is cheaper than iTunes and the download system is essentially identical as it syncs automatically with your iTunes or WMP library. People are just brainwashed into using Apple's vastly inferior download service. Anyways... The Trashmen - Surfin' Bird Corey Taylor - Xm@$

iTunes Chart: December 2010 (II)
I think Surfin' Bird will climb higher once Amazon lower the price to £0.29, like they did with RATM last year. And once we find out what the winner's single is, as if it's as balls as last year plenty of people will want to download the protest tune. I have to say though, I don't think the protest song will work this year - a lot of people downloaded RATM because they actually enjoyed the song, but Surfin' Bird has only ever been a novelty song.

Blimey Corey Taylor is doing well, I didn't think he'd break the Top 100! Good job that man!

Slash ft. Fergie 'Beautiful Dangerous'
Love the song and the video is... Well, let's just say it's no wonder Slash's wife divorced him lol!

Download Festival 2011
If I remember correctly the organisers had a great idea and put MCR on before Slayer - queue bottling!

SUM 41 - FAT LIP
One of the first singles I ever bought - still have it on cassette (!) somewhere. Great tune.

Download Festival 2011
Couldn't care less about Linkin Park, especially after that atrocious last album, and I'm a bit meh on the SOAD reunion...never understood what all the fuss was about. Avenged Sevenfold - Excellent. Their new album is, IMO, one of the best metal albums released in a long time. I seriously love it. Rob Zombie has some killer tunes, but the appeal is in the performance. Check out some YouTube videos, that guy puts on INSANE live shows.

2011.
2010 was my favourite year since I started actively listening to music, just so much quality - Iron Maiden, Tarja, Apocalyptica, Gogol Bordello, Slash, Alter Bridge, Disturbed, Stone Sour, Ozzy Osbourne, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, The Pretty Reckless...any year after this one is gonna have to be something special to beat that in my book. Anyways, 2011 looking a little bare, but... - Nightwish - Within Temptation - Slash (Yes, apparently he's recording another solo album with Myles Kennedy this year!) - Metallica (Late 2011 according to Lars) And possibly new albums from Megadeth, The Answer and Wolfmother. And maybe a new GNR album in 2011 2021!

Evanescence - Evanescence
Fine looking woman like her, I'm sure she probably is  My girlfriend is obsessed with her, the image, the music, the voice, everything. I think she's talented, but I always found Evanescence a little bit of a...frustrating listen? Amy Lee's voice is mixed INCREDIBLY high, it sort of overpowers everything else.

Evanescence - Evanescence
Amy Lee is the only remaining original member of Evanescence left, just like Axl with Guns N' Roses. New albums delayed and said to offer a radical change in style. Both have been accused of being egomaniacs. Very popular once upon the time in mainstream music. ...surely I'm not the only one who thinks these two ought to collaborate and get married? :heehee:

Shayne Ward - Gotta Be Somebody
Really awful cover, autotuned to death and just removed all the guitars and drums so it'll appeal to the kiddies. Top 20 probably.

BIRD IS THE WORD FOR CHRISTMAS #1 2010
Well RATM was a genuine protest song choice, Bird Is The Word is just for the lolz. I think it's important to note that distinction. The failure of the John Cage idea to gain any serious momentum shows that there isn't an appetite for another serious anti X-Factor message at No. 1 - that point has already been made. This year it's all about p***ing off Cowell, whoever wins the contest, and well, people in general!

BIRD IS THE WORD FOR CHRISTMAS #1 2010
Apologies for the other thread, didn't look hard enough! Anyways, to reiterate - currently on 300,000 members and expanding rapidly (was at 250,000 yesterday)! Needs to reach at least 800,000 though to mount an RATM style challenge.

Is there a lack of Rock Music in the charts?
This is a popularly held opinion but it's not really based on fact. Rock hasn't stopped producing great bands - it's just stopped selling them. It's a lot harder for a new rock band today to break through than it was in the 70s, 80s, early 90s and very early 00s.

European Music?
Definitely have to mention Apocalyptica, those guys are unique - metal on cellos, and it works! Also Europe loves their symphonic metal, so there's bands like Nightwish, Tarja and Within Temptation all worth checking out if you like female vocals and a bit of orchestra to go along with your guitars!

Is there a lack of Rock Music in the charts?
Lyrically and in terms of image Green Day were never punk, but musically the heavy emphasis on major power chord progressions and general lack of virtuosity is often associated with punk.

Weezer - Death To False metal - November 2nd
Lol, love the album title! They must have been listening to some Manowar!

Which no.1 songs of 2010 will be remembered in 10 years time
As someone who doesn't listen much to chart music, maybe that makes me a more objective person to judge this? Clearly if I've heard of the song, then it'll have staying power...in which case, I regret to say, only two songs from 2010 stick out in my mind: Lady Gaga - Bad Romance Owl City - Fireflies Perhaps 'Telephone' at a push. The rest, I'm sorry to say, are utter balls and will be remembered as such.

Radio 1 Playlist (29/09/10)
Bullet For My Valentine on the Radio One playlist? :o Must be the first time a metal song has been playlisted for a long time, surely?

New AI judges!!!!!!!
Sorry, I just get kinda wound up when some of today's youth don't recognise bonafide musical legends. And I say that as a member of today's youth, as I'm only 20!
