  1. How embarrassing for you... [flash=450,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ5cJgdqIAw.swf
  2. I like Ryan Seacrest, he's funny when he attacks Simon Cowell.
  3. http://www.fm1079.co.uk/ This is chart news, but I ask will this also be coming to other UK radio stations in other regions, or is it an Oxford only thing? And it's "chart chat" so don't bite me.
  4. It's not fair to judge music like 50 Cent as "for blacks" music either, doesn't mean it's not got some truth in it.
  5. Even Shakira has a gay fanbase, there are tonnes of gays on some of the forums I go to, so it doesn't mean jack $h!t. SS's audience is gays, preppy college kids and older women. I've yet to find anyone from the urbs dancing the night away to psychedelic electro-pop.
  6. I'm only called "Oral Fixation" because on another board I had the same screen name, and some of the people on that board are on this one. It's just to keep it simple, and I chose the name "Oral Fixation" before the albums came out. And I think Oral Fixation Volumes 1 and 2 are average at best. But just to throw a spanner in the works, Shakira's had three Top 3 UK hits and four Top 10 UK hits, and was globally the biggest selling artist of 2001/2002, and is biggest selling artist of 2005/2006 (so far, in the UK and around the world). I'm not pissed off at anything. In actual fact, I don't think HDL deserves all the attention it's had, I thought it was "Meh" at first.
  7. Her new song is really good, I think she'll be a superstar when she's older, if she keeps at it.
  8. Well, it's not very pleasant. Lyrically it's about as creative as a Britney Spears song, and the entire style is beyond flamboyant and nauseating. And it's certainly not original at all, with the only reason it doing well being that it's the only song of its kind out. I'm sure if I released a bushman tribal anthem that would also be a hit, doesn't mean it's good. It's music for middle aged women, who think it's both "hip" and "cool" to boogie to retro-styled beats, and for all those GAP-wearing college preps who find it majestic (you know, the type that wear scarfs around their necks 24/7). The band look like something out of Cirque du Soleil (more like Cirque de la Merde) and the lead singer looks possessed with sinful thoughts. And before you jump the "homophobic" bandwagon, that's not the case at all, and I actually imagine many gays and lesbians find the Scissor Sisters are unrepresentative of their kind. I'll end my rant by thanking God that they're not British, so that the Brits 2007 don't get royally f**ked up the arse.
  9. Personally I find this type of music sickening.
  10. Oral Fixation posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
I don't want to complain, but that winning cover design for Fergie is exactly the same as the US cover, just different font and more gloss, but the same picture. Shouldn't there be a rule that you can't use exactly the same image?
  11. This thread's lost the point entirely, and I'm partly to blame.
  12. I don't think they've ever released a statement saying how much Celine Dion's sold.
  13. MTV didn't give him the Artist of the Millenium award, he thought he won it when it really was just a cake. Britney Spear's fault. And I did not know that about Madonna, I'm surprised she's won nothing for it. Guiness World Records said she only sold 120 million by 2000, and you're saying 210 million by 2006. I don't understand how she could have sold 90 million copies in 6 years - explain that for me. Another blunder in your statement, where does Nana Mouskouri fall into this?
  14. No, Miriah Carey gets the normal "World's Best-Selling R&B/Female Artist" awards, that are only significant to that particular year (so each year it'll be different, Shakira will probably get this year's award). The WMA Diamond awards are the "all time" ones, and Celine Dions the only woman to get it for biggest selling female artist - but Miriah Carey got one in 2003 for passing 150 million albums.
  15. No she's not. Two years ago the World Music Awards gave Celine Dion the award for the biggest selling female artist of all time, and since then Celine Dion's sold another 10 million or so records. We could probably argue all day about who is actually the best selling, but the World Music Awards say it's Celine Dion and I'd believe them above anyone on this site.
  16. Shakira is probably at the moment as big as Britney, in terms of sales and overall success (of all 11 albums, 39 singles, World Tour, etc.). In the coming years, Shakira's next albums will probably still have that rock-latin-cultured-pop feel to them (and perhaps even urban, if she goes that way), and she'll continue to do well. In 20 years time, she could well be bigger than Kylie and bigger than Madonna (obviously not as big as Celine Dion).
  17. How about "Latin American Goddess". Surely you can't dispute that one - and it's a metaphor btw.
  18. I already admitted that, two pages ago. I said I should probably said "Future Queen" or something.
  19. She has 11 albums and nearly 40 singles. That's already a long career, fool.
  20. HDL is also the most played song in music history! Madonna isn't. And Madonna's biggest hit came when she was 47 years old, Shakira's managed to out do Hung Up at the age of 29.
  21. It's 40 million without Oral Fixation.
  22. Shakira's only just really started in the UK, and I was thinking more on a global scale, and not just the UK charts. Robbie and Madonna also have the advantage that they speak English as a first tongue. English is Shakira's fourth language, after Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic.
  23. Yeah fine, but Shakira's sold around 50 million albums worldwide (total record sales = around 75 million). And Shakira's only ever released 5 singles in the UK, so obviously she can't have 34 Top 10 hits in a row. As for Hung Up, Hips Don't Lie will over-take it by year's end. And HDL was Number 1 in every country it was released in, except for Canada, Hungary, Japan and Russia. As many countries have no singles chart, she was only officially Number 1 in 41 countries (snap), but in actuality it would have been many more (80 or so).
  24. She's had 3 hit UK singles (HDL, Whenever Wherever and Underneath Your Clothes).
  25. I should really have said "Future Queen" rather than just "Queen". With 11 albums (7 studio) and 39 singles, she's already worthy of such a title.
