  1. The key thing is to try not to alienate the centrist voters? NO - the key thing is to address the cost of living crisis. The French have just nationalised EDF: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jul/...and-ukraine-war
  2. Ahh, thank you very much for sending Bowie through to the final - I know it's not exactly going to set the contest on fire but I absolutely love it and it means a great deal to me so I definitely had to (as part of my 50th entry anniversary) share what I feel is one of his most underappreciated singles in his vast discography. I feel like his 1990s era gets unfairly overlooked a lot of the time and yet he was still releasing some rly great songs like this. The guitars at the start remind me of “'Heroes'” <3

    Who wore it best tho?
  4. Yeah this is pretty much DoctorBlindcore in its references and musical touchstones. Loving it ofc! Had it on over breakfast this morning to give it a proper listen and I have to say my immediate favourites other than the singles were “Cut” and “Heart Attack” but it was a consistently good listen and I don't doubt these won't change over time- nothing quite bangs as hard as “Valleys” but that took a while to grow on me so I imagine the same will happen with these tracks and more esp from when I see them live. Snapsies! *.*

It's not only expensive, it's very confusing. There are so many different rules and permutations of tickets (Advance/Off-Peak/Super Off-Peak) and then pricing itself is constantly inconsistent with people travelling on the exactly the same train at the same time paying widely varying prices. The whole thing needs to be completely ripped up and restarted. The railway could be utilised so much more effectively to improve our society, help meet our net zero commitments, and it would command strong public support and yet very little progress has been made sadly. You get those absolute MELTS moaning about how the railways have to be subsidised but they are a public good benefitting us all indirectly or directly, which you cannot put a price on. It's like the road network and you don't get people moaning about the roads failing to make a profit. Anyway our lovely government have just changed to law to allow something that they criticised P&O Ferries for doing only a few months ago, impacting on those who only want to see their wages match the increases in cost of living. Fuck the lot of these absolute goons. @1550123057821274113
  8. Karma. Serves her right for throwing those she purported to support under the bus in a shameless pursuit of power. The indignity of being rejected in favour of.. *checks notes* Liz Truss. :D @1547524952731127809 "Best of the Conservative Party"

Looking forward to hearing the new EP. When Kelly Lee Owens dropped “Vrieselaan” on 6Music as part of her set back in May I got very overexcited!!

Has Laura Marling's “Ghosts” ever been sent?! I haven't had a proper immersive listen through yet, only skimming using the Spotify playlist (thanks Dan).. but initial hype going to Dobbo- Sassy 009 was on my potentials list for some time now and “Blue Racecar” was the one I was likely to send, it's even got it's own video game! Hope it can do big things!
  11. Sounding pretty good on first listen, the chorus is incredibly strong and a perfect tonic to counter the current lazy hot summer evening vibe, and I agree with Kath that the chopped vocals going to the breakdown is great too. Solid.

  13. Hey Jade, Great to see Working Men's Club still locked in at #1 - looking forward to hearing the album later. I got the leave approved so I shall def be seeing them play in France in the autumn which I v excited about. *.* Kai Whiston <3 Absolutely LOVE the strings and the 90s breakbeats in “Between Lures” - u ain't no posey raver! Also great to see “Doomscroller” at #2 and the massive Metric takeover. Emily Haines just has an incredibly captivating voice- I found my “Monster Hospital” CD Single the other day which is where my obsession with Metric started.. also nice to see Wet Leg in the Top 10 and that new Beyoncé is really growing on me, I hope it means more of this direction on the new album. From the other new entries I'm also enjoying KUČKA, Mall Grab and Hot Chip. They've played the new Phoenix track on 6Music a lot but it has failed to click so far. Hope you are keeping cool.
  14. @1547697620222484483 THIS. However, I'm so done with the LAbour Party I couldn't really care any less about this.

Sorry mods if I've been holding things up, had a busy week with long shifts. 😔
  16. Long overdue! Well done on the bronze. : ) This was a really strong and enjoyable edition of UP with lots of faves I'll def be replaying, thanks Rollo again for the smooth and efficient hosting and congrats to Cody. Ooh, that's a very strong Top 5- can always rely on Kath to bring the quality ofc, ditto Dobbo. Was not expecting Rich to be behind Giant Swan but it does make sense - we seem to match quite strongly on that region of the music spectrum(see: ishi vu in BJSC 134)- so I think I should restate that I think gooddelta has all the Doctor Blind cheat codes. x Thanks to those who voted for Alberta Balsam - discovered her/that track a few years ago when I was compiling a CD for my niece who wants to be a producer/DJ. Sorry to those who narrowly missed out on my votes, I think I wanted to vote for at least a further 8. Very pleased that you enjoyed it - I think our music tastes overlap quite a bit! Agree- definitely would not have known about this track if you hadn't sent it so thanks for bringing it to my attention.
  17. Penny Mordaunt now the bookies favourite. @1547192886571278336 Transphobia and tax cuts, the Tories love it.
  18. -oXd1Wl7mL4 “Dance For You” is rly good! In general I've never been blown away by anything she's released, but I have always enjoyed most of the singles and thought that she had potential to breakthrough to produce great standout and feel good pop. The confidence is shining through in abudance on the new EP and it feels like everything is finally coming together. Shame that she's largely ignored in the mainstream however, she deserves so much more..
  19. There is about a 20% chance of the UK national temperature record of 38.7C being broken on Tuesday. This news just made that percentage jump to 100%. We're ready!!

Yes, I heard this at lunch on Mary Anne Hobbs' show. It has a great driving energy to it and features a voice note from SHERELLE at the start- I can really see her influence on it (it GOES.. maybe north of the 160 beats per minute she named her debut EP '160 Down the A406' off), BANGER. Gotta say that the features on this are all from really exciting DJs (HAAi/Kelly Lee Owens/ SHERELLE). Even though we have to wait until November, I think a classic is incoming..
  21. Got something that demands to be played WELL after dark. If that counts? x

  23. Well it's whoever is in the middle of the Venn diagram where 'vaguely electable' crosses over with 'pretty horrific views/policy ideas' - the latter circle being absolutely massive of course. Liz Truss I think may just about be, despite the aforementioned republican views (circa~ 1994 Lib Dem conference) able to hold together the bizarre Johnson electoral coalition, though she could also quite conceivably end up starting a nuclear war.. Not sure about Penny Mordaunt, disappointing that she's given up her principals to appeal to the gammons - but I don't believe she truly holds those views and given she's started her campaign by putting an ACTUAL convicted murderer in her promo video, which also looked like a rip-off of spoof The Day Today sketch from Chris Morris, I'm not sure she's got the 'vaguely electable' part right anyway. 24. Lots of ppl think it'll be Rishi Sunak- I think that potentially the briefings against him will be quite strong and sustained, but we'll see. Can't imagine he'll be all that popular with the public at large either really (so obviously a good choice if we want the Tories to collapse!) Went for: Nadhim Zahawi. Pretty much for the same reasons as Brett-Butler and also because the Tories love the peak snake energy of accepting the post of a better job in full knowledge that the next day you will move against the PM and ask him to resign. Hope for: general election and Keir Starmer (even tho he is duller than a weekend in Watford) but more realistically hoping for Tom Tugendhat.
  25. Of course! Well, not all of them- I have a few display units on the wall where you can change them over because every one I've bought holds a strong meaning or importance to me and I love to just enjoy the artwork anyway. I also have a few record boxes that store them, but yeah I do enjoy playing them- it's quite nice to just stick it on when you're doing boring housework or enjoying a glass of wine of an evening. I'm in need of some new speakers though, and haven't found a good place to set it up in the new place but right now I've been playing the Working Men's Club debut LP a lot as I'm gonna see them in September. The wonky wine rack you can see is what my brother made for me during lockdown, it's great but I can't carry it for fear of it falling apart !
