BJSC XXXVIII Final Voting
I think the thing about 'having' to send reminders was in regard to banning people from the next contest, not as a general rule for hosting (At least, that's what I got from it)

BJSC XXXVIII Final Voting
I only realised it was 11am last night, got them sent in this morning luckily, I didn't so many people wouldn't vote. I think the votes sent soon after should probably count, though if people haven't sent them in now, then it's fair I guess they be deducted. I'll wait to see if votes are rejected, and countries deducted points before doing my predicta now. At least this has livened up the contest by giving the slight possibilty Kopecka might not win!

The BJSC CD Swap Reviews Thread
Yep, this is mine! 1. - I was actually going to send this to Hits' contest, but chose Bon Iver instead. It's Rikke Lie who was on Norwegian Idol (or something like that). Definitely one for the pop fans, I tried to vary my CD a bit, so not too unhappy that you disliked it. 2. Van Go Lion - We Don't Miss a Single Beat This is Van Go Lion; I don't know too much about them, but I discovered them via a blog and this was pretty good at the time. I was considering sending this once, but I think I sent Emma Acs instead. I agree it's pretty standard bjsc-fare, but still all right to listen to. 3. Sykur - Shed Those Tears This is an Icelandic band Sykur; it was one of many that I was considering sending to Hits' contest. I didn't get the La Roux comparison when listening to it, but now that you've said it I can see it! 4. Christian TV - Love2Baby Yeah, this does sound JLS-esque actually, which is a bit strange as I don't really like their output, whereas this I think is quite good. I was going to send this a couple of contests ago too, but I remember some others considering it, so used it here when no-one did send it. 5. I'm glad you liked this, it's one of my favourites on here probably too. They're a German duo, and I know very little about them beyond that; I should probably try to listen to more of them. 6. I heard this after hearing someone compare it to Ladyhawke - perhaps that's who you're thinking of? Anyway, while it's not as good as her best, it's still a pretty good indie-esque pop song. 7. Chelcee Grimes - Written in the Stars lol, yeah it's not hard to guess the name to this. It's a good song, if repetitive, though I prefer 'Mannequin' of hers; there's only a preview of it though. 8. Markus Riva - Quiz Shame you didn't like this - I actually really do like it, bar his accent which is a bit too strong (Latvian I think, but clearly Eastern European). I was actually going to send this instead of Vanbot, until I heard that, so it's quite an old reject. 9. Hay Hay - Come Down I found this via scouring Scandinavian myspaces, pretty much the only good thing I've gotten from there. I was actually thinking of adding another of her songs, 'Infinity', but decided to keep to to 1 song per artist. 10. This is Alex Winston, who I think was recently sent by Greenfroze? This is the only thing I've heard from her, but I actually really like it, even though I hated it at first. 11. Ash Koley - Brighter at Night Sorry this cut out! I didn't realise it, I apologize! Anyway, I first found them around the time of BJSCfestivalen, as their songs due tend to be short (not to this extreme though). 12. Yeah, I get how this is a bit generic, but it's all right. I was considering sending it to bjsc ages ago (i.e. several years), but just wanted to get it out of the way. 13. Empress - Hate Goodbyes I just tried to find a link for these and couldn't, so I guess they're not doing much anymore. It was something I was thinking of sending ages ago once again, but just never got around to it; I think it was when I drifted away from the contest for a while. 14. I do really like this, even if it's a bit long, and would have sent it to a contest were it not a year old when I'd found it. It's the most poppy of her material that I've heard, and my personal favourite. 15. MNDR - Cut Me Out Sorry for the poor quality here and the next track! I hadn't realised it was such a bad quality file, and had to use a different programme so I could remove the info. Anyway, you guessed MNDR right. 16. You got this right too, and was the thing that made me realise you had my CD! There's not much to say given you already know this one. other than that I heard it first through 'Easy A', later than everyone else seemingly. 17. Kristina Maria - Animal I actually really like this, though I did choose this one for a more poppy listener. 18. DWNTWN - Hungry Hearts I'm glad you like this, it's certainly my favourite on the CD. It is the same group that I entered this contest; I prefer this song, but it's less bjsc-friendly, so decided to send it here. As for the group, they're easily one of my favourite new acts of the moment, so I'm glad others like them! 19. Yeah, this is French, though the singer is Moroccan (I think at least). The title means 'Woman of today' if my French is still good. It's another I heard a while back, but never got around to entering it. I can't help but notice similarities in the melody, particularly in the chorus, to 'Umbrella' by Rihanna, though I'm probably the only one! Thanks for listening and reviewing! I did fear that you wouldn't like it when you said the first song was awful, so at least there's a good few songs you quite liked! And the tracklist in full; 1. Rikke Lie - Good Girl 2. Van Go Lion - We Don't Miss a Single Beat 3. Sykur - Shed Those Tears 4. Christian TV - Love2Baby 5. Boy - Little Numbers 6. Freja Loeb - Never Stop Coming Back 7. Chelcee Grimes - Written in the Stars 8. Markus Riva - Quiz 9. Hay Hay - Come Down 10. Alex Winston - Sister Wife 11. Ash Koley - Brighter at Night 12. Bridget Tucker - Let Me In 13. Empress - Hate Goodbyes 14. Rai Knight - New New 15. MNDR - Cut Me Out 16. Dan Black - Symphonies 17. Kristina Maria - Animal 18. DWNTWN - Hungry Hearts 19. Sofia Essaidi - Femme d'aujourdhui

The BJSC CD Swap Reviews Thread
Winning, Charlie Sheen Style - review 1. 9/10 Wow! This seems to be a mash-up of several songs (I can hear Dev, Katy Perry and Beyoncé) and is actually really good! The Katy Perry part is a bit jarring I think, but the chorus is great! Easily the highlight of the CD. 2. 8/10 This sounds pretty Scouting for Girls-esque, so it might be them? Well, it's better than anything else I've heard by them if so, though that may be down to not knowing it's them. 3. 7/10 The verses here a bit boring and it's a bit repetitive. The vocals make up for it though, particularly in the chorus, lifts the song up a level. 4. 7/10 This sounds familiar for some reason, but can't place it. The verses for this too are a bit boring, but I do like the chorus, and the melody's quite good. 5. 8/10 I really like this - I think the verses lead into the chorus well, and it's got a good melody for a simple pop song - I actually think I'd like to hear more of whoever this is by! 6. 5/10 Not as bad as I feared based on the opening, but a bit too pop-by-numbers (and it's a male vocal) for moi. That and a bit repetative. It's similar lyrically to Irreplaceable, which I couldn't help comparing it to; and Beyoncé's far better. 7. 6/10 Ooh, some strings! Another male vocal, but better than the last. The verses are pretty boring, but the chorus is all right. 8. 3/10 The opening sounds a bit familiar, but that's the only bit I liked I'm afraid. The vocals sound just horrible, and the melody isn't that good either, and doesn't make up for it sadly 9. 7/10 This is quite good, nice to be off the male vocals! A bit simple maybe, and pop-by-numbers as well, but still nice enough. 10. 8/10 This is another male vocal, but far better than the previous two. He sounds pretty familar, and the song's actually quite good too! Probably my second favourite actually. 11. 2/10 Christ, this is boring! Easily the worst thing here - at least I could finish track 8! I think it's country-esque pop, though it's easily the worst thing I've heard from the genre if so. 12. 8/10 Another voice that's familar, but I think I can point this one out - Diana Vickers? If so, then she's certainly been popular in BJSC recently! This is the best thing I've heard from her, partially as her voice seems a bit less screechy than before. 13. 7/10 This reminds me of 'Try' by Nelly Furtado a lot, in vocals and general melody. The verses aren't actually that bad, but the chorus is a bit of a let down, and it's a bit short overall. 14. 6/10 I'm not really sure what to day about this song. It sounds pretty upbeat and positive, which can be good, but other than that it didn't really leave an impression. 15. 6/10 The melody to this is really upbeat, but the lyrics, which certainly aren't upbeat, juxtapose strangely with it. It's not bad though, other than the ending which is just too saccharine. 16. 5/10 The verses are all right, not actually that bad, but the chorus is really such a let down, pretty boring tbh. 17. 4/10 I can recognize the voices here, Lily Allen and Dizzee Rascal. While I normally like Lily, I've never though the same about Dizzee, and I don't really like this either. Their parts contrast a bit too much for me. 18. 7/10 Oh haha, I can see where the CD name's inspiration comes from now! It's autotuned quite a lot, though I don't think this intending to be a 'good' song. Overall Pretty good overall I’d say; a few misses, but also some hits, and some artists who I may want to hear more of, so yay! The average mark overall was 6/10, but that seems a bit low, and I’d rank it 7/10 as a full CD. I’m not too sure whose CD this is; I think it may be Jonjo’s, as I seem to remember he likes Scouting for Girls/Diana Vickers, but that’s just a (probably wrong) guess. Oh, and I've just realised my reviews are a bit brief compared to pretty much everyone else's. So sorry to whoever's CD this is, I'm just not that good at describing things.
