clearly physicals are saving mcfly, the 3 cds for £4 deal again. i think their fanbase are out in force in the 1st week of release like always, its always interesting to focus on the 2nd week position to see if they are appealing to the wider public this time around. also on itunes they haven't rocketed into the top10 so its not a big track with digital buyers, they seem to have a similar problem like the jonas bros. they have a problem cause children can't buy online ;) but back to this week......1st round to mcfly but i think dizzee still got legs, and has momentum, the song is fresher and still "hot". i'm hoping he will kick em down and deny them. if kid rock can nab second place, that would be a bonus!!

so it is 3 albums left, are we going to get a spanish/english album split in the new upcoming era? followed by the greatest hits? nickleback have just signed a 3 album deal with live nation, i wonder if her 10 year contract is 3 albums also. it would make sense time wise

i think its two i don't think its 3 cause why would live nation sign her if she isn't nearing finishing the contract. her sony schedule should look like this: english album = spring 2009 greatest hits = late 2009 then next era could be a english/spanish split like the fixation albums) with live nation. in 2011 (unlikely) or 2012 (possibly) or 2013 (following the pattern of 4 years between eras) but what i want to know is for how many albums have live nation signed her for? they must know she takes her time between albums (up to 4 years) between eras. so if they have her for 10 years, is it a 3 album contact? i can't imagine shakira having 4 different eras in 10 years!! i think its a 5 album including unplugged/live album and GH album. if it is then paying $70 million- $100 milion for that is incredible considering the current financial climate.

interesting, i wonder how much control they are giving her, i bet its loads cause she is used to it at sony. also they seem to be focused on making money from touring rather than albums. which means more shakira live. if she has signed then i see things moving quickly after she leaves sony. coming up we have the final english album with sony, followed by the world tour then the quick greatest hits release with sony. then she has to deliver her first album for live nation and tour that. i don't think she can keep them waiting 3 or 4 years between albums. i think it will be 2 years maximum. damn i wish i could see the details of the contract :naughty: its cool that live nation were involved with her last tour and kept the ticket priced down and very reasonable compared to madonna's inflated prices but i think live nation want to make as much money as possible with madonna cause they signed her and jay-z up for too much money. and need to make profit cause they over spent. $70 millions sound good to me.

once in a while a song comes along that is perfect in every way. check the check list: 1. original subject matter 2. good story telling, quirky lyrics with humour 3. but its all about the thundering very catchy chorus that grabs you on 1st listen, that thumping beat and roaring guitars 4. addictive quality...after the song is over you want to listen to it again 4. katy's voice has part of pink's attitude but its more youthful and playful, it suits the production perfectly 5. her image....she looks a bit like lily allen but a much sexier glamourous version, part lolita, part dita von teese 10/10 its distinctive, there are no faults. one of the best songs of the year no questions (my fave so far), this wil be monster

the dizzee track isn't bad at all and catchy, its very well crafted, got alot going on to keep your attention. that hot beat great to dance too plus 3 very different vocalists all blending well together.

they are forced into this "risk", its the only option they have left cause they don't appeal to the wider public, their album/single sales are poor and their record company made a loss, its a case of jump or get pushed, they would have been dropped, boy bands have a shelf life especially if they are aimed at children and young teenagers. SFTW, richard knows his stuff.... 60tKWPegXto it will be interesting to see how this plays out, if it works and the released album sells like they predict.

many of us are judging them on their poor chart runs and sales (after all this is a chart focused forum) aswell as they poor quality and forgetable nature of their number 1"hits". they reek of desperation too using the 3 singles for £4/£5 deal everytime they release a single, also the text to buy and their hard sell tactics at their concert in order to get a hit.

this tactic is quite clever and worked for prince. although prince would have sold out all his gigs based on his status as a musical legend and his impressive back catalog that attracts all age groups. but prince is prince and mcfly do not come even close to his status and talent. i read somewhere that prince made millions in profit from his 21 day residency at the O2 much more than he would have made if he sold a huge number of his new album after record company deductions. as far as singles, mcfly will struggle more now than ever, cause spending money on singles/videos and releasing them has to come from somewhere and if you don't have a big record company finance then you can struggle. they are definately banking on tour sales to pay for everything. it will be pointless for mcfly to release and sell singles on itunes if the songs have been given away already. which means we will be seeing less on them on the charts, so its not all bad ;) giving away an album is risky for a smaller act like mcfly, they are a boy band after all and they all have shelf life, we were getting an indication based on their dire no legs chart runs that they are very fanbase driven. and this fanbase is decreasing (based on recent album/single sales stats) partly because the kids are growing up and out of them or switching to other newer fresher acts. the jonas brothers are definately a threat to them, they are getting more high profile. i can imagine many kids liking them over mcfly now. i can't imagine anyone over 17 liking them unless its cause they fancy them.

ah that explains it then, they know they don't make money from music sales, its all about touring

its awful and forgettable like many of their previous tracks, not a departure at all. still singing in that fake american accents. will the children still buy this? their fanbase may have grown up or prefer the Jonas brothers instead. mcfly don't make money from singles and albums cause their sales are so low, their only option is to make money from touring. by getting their music out there to 3 million people they hope that translates into their tour selling out, i'm sure their new record company knows this and have agreed with them to take a cut so they will make money that way.

i hope so too, shakira is huge in the US and internationally so deserves it! one of the biggest selling female artists this decade, blows many other female singers (who may court the media more than her) out of the water. not only that she has not had a flop era since she took creative control at 18. we had PD, DELL, LS, FO1 AND OF2. 5 hit albums in a row!! her star is shining strong :friends:

as written in the article this is very true....."People who aren't little girls (or gay men) usually loathe most things about boy bands, from the formulaic songs to the fact that actual talent tends to play a secondary role" this is the problem with boybands, image comes first not the music ie good songs, the attraction factor is so important and sells cds. with busted and mcfly the bar was raised cause they "could play instruments" and made the 90s versions extinct and less credible cause they couldn't. however as a few have written already take that is a superior boy band and appeals to more people. the secret to take that's success has always been gary barlow's input, the man can write a good pop song and that is noticed and appreciated by the wider public and this makes them credible. their sound now is mature it doesn't focus on getting teenage girls or the gay market to buy them. the songs come first. the problem with mcfly is that the songs are so forgettable, the one who writes them isn't very good not in the league of the barlow

a fan here too, what a great song!! lovely intro, love the lyrics (especially the way she incorporated past single titles) her singing (love when she sings "feels like the first time") and the production

she needs to go with uptempo next, why not migrate? i want a proper reason why its not going to be single!

i like the wiley track its fresh and thumping, it really works for a grime electro dance urban track ^_^ but he seems to be the underdog for #1 this week cause he is up against 3 huge artists MadTimTim + 4 physical formats boosting them. physicals could save 4 minutes, he needs to easily clear 40k i hope he can.

its shame she got denied #2 after leading all week. the album will have legs in the UK, no need to worry "bye bye", "migrate" and "that chick" are going to do some major boosting, i hope all the way to #1

^^^check your pm "she's not me" is one of the better tracks too, the dance beat change at the end is great. dance music production suits madonna better. but i am noticing after a few listens that its all about the production, they dominate the songs its all about pharrel's and timbaland, lyrically some of these songs are forgettable and generic with not many strong hooks. madonna's seems over powered, cold sometimes and comes off the weakest part of the tracks. however the track that works perfectly and has the most warmth is "miles away" cause its more subtle, restrained and personal (about something real). the rest are just so slick and a bit clinical, not much warmth and soul. if you are a fan of pharrel and timbaland's productions then you will appreciate these more. so far "incredible" is the weakest track, it sounds so disconneced and hollow.
