Uhsting's Chart turns 10 in December!

Uhsting's Chart is a weekly chart that brings 50 mostly new songs every week from all around the world regardless of language. The most common genre of Uhsting's Chart is pop, alternative, electronic, indie, rock and contemporary classical. Each week I listen to a bunch of New Music Friday playlists thanks to Spotify, and discover new songs from different personal charts and song contests.

I have been making Uhsting's Chart since I was really small (12 years old) and I am proud to have continued to do that for 10 years! Although there are periods of hiatus in between, the present iteration begins in March 2020 with a time-consuming but the most sustainable method in keeping all the new entries released mostly in the past few weeks.

I first got infatuated to listening to songs when I was small through the radio. I then got into habit of listening to the radio chart every week to vibe with the latest new songs. It was also at that time I had more sources of finding great songs around the world. I first bumped into a popular personal chart TheGeoKing on YouTube back at the time and found that there are a lot of songs that are yet to be discovered, and quickly got disillusioned by the quality of some of the popular songs I was listening to, so I created my own chart to document my latest findings. I also wanted to share my chart to the public and YouTube became a good platform to do so. At first, I only created videos using Windows Movie Maker, only to switch to PowerDirector some years later. It was pretty potato quality but that's how my first video got uploaded to YouTube. :P

Throughout the years, there have been a lot of changes to how I chart the songs, or there is a specific mechanism in the movement of the songs. Sometimes, I ran into the problem of songs piling up my playlist because I didn't know how to select good songs, which frustrated me and caused me to give up the chart momentarily or redo the chart completely -- the birth of the non-mainstream chart. I remember there was a time I had multiple no. 1s! At first, my top 50 personal chart proves to be quite popular. As time goes, views dwindled and I started to find ways to keep the number of views high enough. It also didn't help I'm quite a busy person so I often fall behind with the chart. Currently, I have found a good way to select the top 50 songs every week for my chart and a good way to rank the songs so that it doesn't feel formulaic that the songs move in a certain way on the chart. I have also tried to maintain the schedule, though it can be quite tricky! Nevertheless, I really enjoy the process of finding new songs, albeit a hugely time-consuming process!

There is also a notable shift in my music taste throughout the years, some quite questionable and indicative of my problematic era. :kink: I first started with some relatively well-known songs, and included some songs from very small channels to promote their music. Then, I began to take a lot of songs from personal charts. Eurovision also helped me to find loads of great songs. Around the mid-2010s, I ventured into the realm of contemporary classical, and I really loved a lot of the tracks there. That became a hugely dominant genre in the chart (which might have turned people away). Probably around the late-2010s, sad emotional songs became the main type of songs that is found on my chart. Now, I can be proud of the hugely diverse range of tracks that I have, that features different moods and genres.

End of the long story of my chart, there will be a special video released on my YouTube channel on the first week of December, featuring top 25 songs on the 1st week of my chart and top 25 songs on the current week of my chart. Stay tuned! :cheer:
  2. End the year on a high!

Last edition saw Sovarasma qualifying again after 2 DNQs in a row, and the HoD is determined to bring another qualification to Sovarasma to wrap up a somewhat better latter half of the year!

    About Tale Of Us

Based in Berlin, Tale Of Us consists of the duo Carmine Conte and Matteo Milleri, originated from Milan. They were named one of the top 100 alternative DJs in 2018 by DJ Mag.

    About Pete Tong

Pete Tong is an English DJ that works for BBC Radio 1. The name comes from the phrase "It's all gone Pete Tong", a humorous saying of "it's all gone a bit wrong". His compilation album Classic House is his first no. 1 album in the UK Albums Chart, earning a Gold certification.

    About Jules Buckley

Jules Buckley is an English composer, conductor and arranger. From 2020, he is Creative Artist-in-Residence with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and also presents the BBC Radio 3 programme Classical Fix. Most notably, he performed in The Proms with BBC Symphony Orchestra, featuring Moses Sumney, an artist I may consider sending in the future! ;)

    About Time

No pun intended, Time is perhaps well-known coming from Christopher Nolan's film Inception. The original piece is composed by Hans Zimmer. The piece uses 8 simple chords with a progression and different variations, akin to the modern Canon in D (this time the piano takes the tedious role instead of the cello).

Originally, Tale Of Us remixed this piece 4 years ago, but never released it. Pete Tong then picked up on the project and tidied up with higher-quality production. Speaking of why Pete Tong decided to take up the unpolished project, he said, "The guys had been experimenting with the original in their DJ sets which inspired us to collaborate on our own original version of this epic melancholic masterpiece.” Tale of Us then added, "These harmonies transcend time and space, we are excited and grateful to cover such a masterpiece."

Once again, I'm sorry for the lack of comments. My life is feeling a bit out of balance still and I barely have time to listen to music that isn't easily available ala the official chart show. I hope you're well ^_^

  6. Happy to help! Also wanted to note that your previous (SHOCK) non-qualifier BATHSHEBA has managed to peak at No. 7 in my personal chart. Really don't understand how that didn't qualify. Excited to see what you've got to offer for BJSC 140!

Also totally forgot that Heal Me was your entry as well! It's been a very long running hit for me with 17 weeks in the Top 200 peaking at No. 10 :o So you actually have two singles in my top 40 right now :D

You're welcome ;) Still gutted about BATHSHEBA's non-qualification but delighted to know that the song has peaked at no. 7 in your personal chart. :yahoo: I also didn't expect Heal Me to peak at no. 10 for your chart too :o I'm aware you haven't posted your chart on the forum for a while but I'm happy to follow your chart if it's posted somewhere else ;)

My BJSC 140 entry if approved is probably quite different to the songs I sent previously, but there are similarities with Heal Me. I think a lot of you will remember from where the track is sampled and I consider the track to be among the best songs of the year. I hope that the song can extend my qualification streak! I'm even more excited at the song I have prepared for BJSC 141, which really fits the time of the year regarding cold winter!

  7. Number One Entry

This ballad hits deep and his voice is sublime. The instrumentation is relatively minimal so that it doesn't take the attention away from the eminent vocals. I hope to see a music video soon!

    Highest New Entry

I don't know what to say about this. This is blunt, unreserved, into-your-face. The buildup to the drop raises a lot of expectations for a massive drop and the drop does not disappoint with the choice of beat and instrumentation. The verses are amazing. This is an all-rounded track which should be able to rise further in the chart.

    Highest Jump

This is industrial, reminds me of HATARI. However, if considered on its own, this is still quite an outstanding unique song. The instrumental breakdown at the end is phenomenal. The style might not be for all but we are here for uniqueness!

    One to Watch

This has a totally different style than the above songs introduced. However, this is also unique on its own. This is purely instrumental but the instrumentation is out of this world. The song changes up every now and then, and I'm amazed at the sophistication of this song!
