  1. Hi Pete! Great week overall! It happens on some weeks when you couldn't find a song that deserves to be no. 1, and then on some weeks you are queuing songs for taking the no. 1 spot! Need to have a listen to Better -- Jack Garratt is a great artist! Also surprised to see a song from the Ivory Coast!

Survival I'm also enjoying, a great bit of trance there.

    nice chart ~

Be sure to check out the other piano instrumental too -- We Won't Waltz Together! Great you like Silver Lining and Survival! I enjoy the drop of that song!

    Hi Uhsting,

Dua Lipa still in your Top50  .

A lot of new entries are easy listening sunday morning tracks :teresa:

Dua Lipa is hanging on but still there! I always think my new entries are not very accessible to a lot of people, so glad to see a lot of them are easy listening (maybe not Psycho).

    iET "As Far"

As Far is bound to take you on a distant idyllic journey.

Welcome to the series of "Great songs you have never heard before" (April edition). Here I post different forum posts, introducing songs that have reached high positions in my chart (check out Uhsting's Top 50 from my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/c/uhsting !). I hope you enjoy the selection!

Statistics of the song (as of May 2):

    Youtube views: <100

    Spotify plays: 16,000

    About the artist

iET, birthname Lisa Van Viegen, is a Dutch musician. She is born to a musical family and studied at Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She came across producer Russell Elevado, who was looking for artists to collaborate with, and hence worked on her album So Unreal, eventually released in 2014. She also frequently releases live clips of her playing the guitar and trumpet. She describes her voice as “angellike” and her music “atmospheric”.

    About the song

    k6JR099.jpg

She wrote the song to “bring some comfort in these scary times”. The accompanying music video was self-made. The song starts soft with an ambient choir and percussion. Kicking in is her voice, keyboard and drums. The chorus recurs with the lyrics “in this moment” and a long melisma, then comes a breakdown of harmonic melismas and louder instrumental accompaniment. The second verse introduces a guitar and strings, and gradually the flugelhorn. The second breakdown is ambient and instrumental, ending gradually on a major chord.

    Personal comments

I love the atmospheric feel in this song. iET’s vocals are soothing but contemplative. The song transcends your emotions to a deep level, which echoes with the current quagmire the world is in. I particularly like the breakdown of this song, when the vocals are equalled, if not relegated, with the instrumental ensemble. There is so much happening going on there but is accessible with comfortable harmony and brief showcases of melodic instrumental lines. I thoroughly enjoy this enchanting experience in this noble song.

    Staging potential

It will be difficult for sure. I like the concept of the video with moments of the sea and the use of mirrors like in the live performance of The Roop’s On Fire. Could this be translated live on the stage though? I am slightly worried whether it could become boring as time passes by without a convincing staging, but this is also an opportunity to showcase evocative art in costumes, dance, and the LED screen.

    Page CXVI "All"

Ambient and glistening, All is here to redefine Christian music with a different musical style.

Welcome to the series of "Great songs you have never heard before" (April edition). Here I post different forum posts, introducing songs that have reached high positions in my chart (check out Uhsting's Top 50 from my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/c/uhsting !). Statistics of the song (as of May 2):

    Youtube views: 38,000

    Spotify plays: 44,000

    About the artist

    S2t49o9.jpg

    Credit: Official artist website

Page CXVI is a solo project led by American Latifah Alattas. She aims to present new interpretations of ancient wisdoms, hymns and spiritual songs. Her musical influences include Sigur Rós, Aqualung, Coldplay… Her songs are frequently featured on television and movies. They were planning to do an “EDEN TOUR” but it was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

    About the song

    FWFjPAq.jpg

All is a song from the album of the same name. Contrary to her previous albums, she includes 6 original songs plus 2 re-produced hymns. All centres around “the divine, compassionate source who loves all people”. With a style reminiscent of M83’s Outro through the use of long pedal chords from the ambient choir and keyboard as well as the slow resolving of dissonance, Page CXVI aims to bring peace through All that brings her new vision and provides room for reflection and meditation.

    Personal comments

This approach to typical Christian contemporary music is considerably different as the song focuses more on the music rather than the lyrics. A special musical style has evolved using long-held notes that give amazing harmony and an Eric Whitacre-like approach in resolving dissonance, reminiscent to what you would imagine as the white but subtle lights shining from above. The lyrics are effective and well-connected: notice every line ends with the word “all”. I particularly like the dynamic build-up and then the sweet ending. All in all (pun maybe intended), it is truly a special and amusing experience.

    Staging potential

Since everything in All propagates slowly, it needs a staging where the camera pans in or out slowly. The focus should be mainly on Page CXVI and there needs something to happen on the screen behind, yet minimal. A background choir is advised. Transferring the experience from the song to the stage will not be easy but could potentially wow the audience from a memorable package.

  6. On first listen, I'm impressed by the production of this song. It may seem incoherent but I really like how the song brightens up at the end. It has a lot of unique elements and it may take a while to get used to. All in all, this song is concise and stands out from the bunch. Hopefully, it will grow on me more!

  8. Hi Uhsting :)

My faves are Goliath and Break My Heart inside the 30, and I need to listen properly to the Saint Motel track as they are pretty good - so playing it now! I like it :)

I even set up my own You Tube top 10 as an exercise, I was going to set it up as a playlist to post but it dont work that way it seems

Hi john! I like the retro sound from A Good Song Never Dies and it is catchy as well! I'm glad you like it! All the best on your YouTube top 10!

    Hi uhsting!

Nice to see the debut for "Love To Go" and the re-entry for "Break My Heart"!

    My suggestions this week are:

    Youngr - Childish Behaviour

    Clueso - Tanzen

    Ghali - Good Times

    Viki Gabor - Getaway

Akcent & Chante - Arabian Dance

ViZE & Tom Gregory - Never Let You Down

    Tom Grennan - Oh Please

    Great chart!

Hi Sergej! Great to see you like Love To Go -- surprisingly good song from Lost Frequencies that convinced me with the melody and the fancy drop (usually I'm not a fan of Lost Frequencies). Thanks for the suggestions as well! Never Let You Down is a good release -- a modern opening coupled with the unique voice of Tom Gregory. You should see more of this soon!
