Sir Paul McCartney has confirmed two very special British shows just before Christmas. The Beatles loved Christmas. The band hold the joint record for the most consecutive Christmas number ones, smashing three singles to the top spot at the peak of Beatlemania. Alongside this, the band released annual fan club singles which contained knockabout jingles and plenty of wacky humour. Since their split, the individual members have created their own individual festive soundtracks. Paul McCartney has released two golden Christmas hits, including the hugely popular 'Mull Of Kintyre'. Later releasing 'Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time' it seems that December 25th is a big day in the McCartney household. Nut roast, songs by the fire... With that in mind, Paul McCartney has arranged two very special festive shows. The Beatles legend is set to play some Christmas shows, with dates in London and Liverpool being announced for later this year. Taking place just hours before the big day, the shows are small by McCartney's stadium standards. The London show takes place in the HMV Apollo Hammersmith, while the Beatle has decided to use Liverpool's O2 Academy venue. Both are considerably smaller than his summer shows, which included dates in Scotland's Hampden Stadium. Set to have a wonderful Christmas time, Paul McCartney has promised two special shows containing classics, lesser heard material and of course a few festive favourites. Vigils and prayers will mark the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death this week. A candlelit vigil is due to take place on Wednesday at the new Peace and Harmony monument dedicated to the former Beatle, at Chavasse Park. And Beatles fans will also gather at the statue in Cavern Walks, with well-wishers also expected to leave flowers and tributes at the Lennon statue in Mathew Street. Meanwhile, the city’s two-month John Lennon tribute season will draw to a close on Thursday when the major Lennon Remembered – The Nine Faces of John concert takes place at the Echo Arena. Fans from all over the UK are expected to visit the city to mark the date in 1980 when Lennon was gunned down outside his New York home. The candlelit vigil will take place at the European Peace Monument, in Chavasse Park, from 8pm to 9.30pm on Wednesday. Crowds will be led in song by local singers and musicians. Jerry Goldman, managing director of The Beatles Story, who was behind the monument coming to Liverpool, said: “Although the European Peace Monument has only been on public display for just over a month it’s already taken on a global significance of its own. “People from all over the world are coming to the city to pay their respects and consider Lennon’s message of peace through his music. “The city is very excited that we finally have a focal point at which to remember Lennon and look forward to a vigil that will reach out to people the world over.” Cllr Wendy Simon, the city’s executive member for culture and tourism, added: “The Lennon season has been all about remembering one of the world’s greatest musicians and songwriters and the city’s most-loved sons. “His work is loved by millions and this will be a special, moving week for everyone who has been touched by his genius.” The Beatles Appreciation Society is holding an Imagine Give Peace a Chance All You Need Is Love event at Cavern Walks, at 10am, on Wednesday. A priest from Liverpool Parish Church will say prayers and fans will be invited to lay their own tributes. The Bluecoat’s Bed-In for peace, which started on October 9, draws to a close on Thursday with a Big Bed-In for everyone who has taken part in the two-month art initiative. And Lennon Remembered – The Nine Faces of John concert, at the ECHO Arena, will feature performances from the Quarrymen and from Mark McGann among others. All profits from the concert are being donated to the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal, Radio City’s Cash For Kids and the Mathew Street Festival. Apple has settled a decades-long trademark dispute with the Beatles' company, Apple Corps, over who owns the rights to the name and logo, in a deal that could pave the way for band's songs to be available to download legally for the first time. Under the new agreement Steve Jobs, Apple's chief executive, will own all of the trademarks related to the name and license certain trademarks back to Apple Corps for continued use. The two parties agreed that the ongoing trademark lawsuit between the companies would end with each covering its own legal costs. Download service iTunes will continue using the Apple name and logo. Bookmaker William Hill has already moved to offer odds of 10/1 that the Beatles will have all the top 10 tracks in the official UK charts at the same time at some point this year, with the expectation that they will soon be available via iTunes and other music download services. The bookmaker also has "Hey Jude" as favourite, at 8/1, to be the first Beatles song to hit number one in the digital era. "We love the Beatles, and it has been painful being at odds with them over these trademarks," said Mr Jobs in a joint statement. "It feels great to resolve this in a positive manner, and in a way that should remove the potential of further disagreements in the future." Neil Aspinall, the manager of Apple Corps, added: "It is great to put this dispute behind us and move on. The years ahead are going to be very exciting times for us." "We wish Apple Inc every success and look forward to many years of peaceful co-operation with them." The official chart was overhauled earlier this year to allow legal digital downloads to count towards rankings, regardless of whether the song is available to buy as a CD or vinyl single. Rumours of a resolution to the Apple trademark row have been circulating since Mr Jobs unveiled the iPhone at the MacWorld Expo in San Francisco last month when a Beatles track was played, and cover art from one of the group's records seen, during the presentation. The dispute dates back to 1980 when the late George Harrison noticed an advertisement for Apple Computers in a magazine and argued there was a potential for trademark conflict with Apple Corps. Apple Computer, as the company was then called, and Apple Corps reached an initial deal in 1981. However, the companies clashed again in the late 80s, resulting in a new deal thrashed out in 1991 that kept Apple from entering the music business. The Beatles' Apple Corps filed a further trademark suit against Apple Inc in 2003 arguing that the iTunes music store and iPod MP3 player violated the 1991 deal. Last May a court in London ruled in favour of Apple Inc, with a judge ruling that iPod and iTunes did not breach the deal because they only conveyed music and did not create it. This long drawn out saga has gone on for years, and it took me by surprise when , to quote a line from one of their songs :D . I was never very sure whether it would make much of an impact on the charts, as much as I would like it to, I just think it would alienate all the younger generation, especially on this site who can't seem to wait for the updates on Itunes as if it were their next fix. Jesus, get a life. To be honest it is just another media for their music to be bought. Since I already own their back catalogue, I don't see myself downloading anything soon. But never say never.

Beatles break into top 100 on iTunes The Beatles have broken into the top 100 on iTunes on the day their back catalogue became available to download. The Beatles finally joined the digital revolution by making their music available for download through Apple’s iTunes store on Tuesday. It was the first time that music fans had been able to buy digital versions of their favourite Beatles tracks and immediately it proved popular. A total of 11 songs were in the top 200 with Hey Jude the highest entry at number 84. Individual tracks are available from Apple’s iTunes store for 99p per song, and can be copied to an iPhone, iPod, iPad or other MP3 player, and music fans can also buy and download entire albums, complete with sleeve notes, album artwork and even videos featuring the Fab Four. But most albums cost significantly more to download than they do to buy as physical CDs. The White Album, for instance, will set music fans back £17.99 on iTunes, but only £12.99 from Amazon and £14.29 from Play.com. Purchasing the entire Beatles back catalogue will cost £125. The agreement between Apple and The Beatles marks the end of a long courtship, during which Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive and a huge Beatles fan, tried to persuade the group to license its music to Apple’s download service. The Beatles have been notable absentees from the digital music revolution, and it was initially thought that a trademark dispute between Apple Inc, the technology company, and Apple Corps, the Beatles' label, could be to blame, though that legal wrangle was settled in 2007. In September 2009, when the remastered Beatles albums were released they shattered chart records around the world, selling more than 2.25 million copies within days of release in North America, the UK and Japan. Released as individual albums and box sets on 9 September they brought in s fortune. Figures from record company EMI show UK sales of the digitally remastered albums e exceeded 354,000 in 11 days of release. Hard figures for the money made by the Beatles from their music are hard to come by. It is estimated that they made £55 million during the group’s lifetime, but since then their reputation has grown ever stronger, and every time an album is remastered or released in a new format, the sales shoot up. The digital remastering of their catalogue last year, for example, took their total album sales to nearly 9 million, while the repackaging of their number ones in 2000 sold more than seven million in the US alone.
