  1. Long haired lover from Liverpool. Which Beatles song was covered by Bob Dylan?
  2. Kansas City
  3. Can you think of songs by well known artists that are totally at odds with their usual musical output? I always thought Slade’s Everyday was totally different from their other songs like Mama we’re all crazee now, as the verses are ballad like. Others I can think of, from the top of my head: The Bee Gees- 'New York Mining Disaster 1941’- as far away from Saturday night Fever as you can get The Stranglers - Strange Little Girl - so far away from Peaches & No more heroes
  4. I always thought Peter Gabriel was better as a solo artist than he was in Genesis, but I felt Phil Collins was better in Genesis rather than a solo artist for instance. I liked the Police, and thought Sting was a good vocalist, however as a solo artist I felt he was rubbish. What artists do you think did better or worse as a solo artist?

Have you ever bought an album after hearing a great song from it thinking (hoping?) the album would be as great as the song? However, after listening to it a few times, it turns out to be utter tosh. For instance I bought the album “Fin de Siecle” by Divine Comedy because I loved the song “National Express”, but I soon found out it was the only track I liked.
  6. For me the best is Lennon/McCartney but others that stand out are, Jagger/Richards Morrisey/Marr Who are yours?
  7. Among all the musicians who died relatively young, who do you feel is the greatest loss to the music industry? 1) Who do you personally miss most and wish had been around longer? 2) Who would have affected the course of popular music the most, had they lived? Well for me John Lennon is first on my list, I feel he could still have still have contributed to popular music over the last 30 years. Others who could have written great music were possibly Jimi Hendrix, Ian Curtis and Jim Morrison.

Totally agree with these sentiments, armies have been trying to beat the afghans in one form or another for over 150 years, and no one has managed it yet. At least if the Country had a leader who was honest and comanded respect it might be worth fighting for, but quite clearly this guy is corrupt through and through, so soldiers and civilians are dying for not purpose whatsover. Our leaders are no better than General Haig in the first world war sending wave after wave over the trenches. In another news item I read that bonuses have reared there ugly head once again, this time £47m is being paid to the MOD civilian staff. Not bad if you can get it, is this danger money for possible paper cuts, or the dangerous shredding machine, or the sharp pencil sharpeners. I was astounded that there are 85,000 people work for the MOD, what on earth do they all do? No wonder the front line troops cannot get supplies where and when they want, there is so much burocracy.

  10. The Billboard Top 200 is about to open its doors to older releases after finally eliminating a rule that prevented the discographies of Michael Jackson and the Beatles from being counted toward the week’s top-selling albums chart, Reuters writes. For the past 18 years, the chart generally only reflected the sales of newer albums, but starting with the week ending November 22, older releases will be recognized. This year’s biggest music events — Michael Jackson’s death and the reissue of the Beatles catalog — inspired the change to include “the true best-sellers in the country,” said chart director Silvio Pietroluongo. Essentially, the Top 200 will now reflect the Nielsen SoundScan sales figures from the Top Comprehensive Albums Chart. If last week’s Top 200 had reflected this change, Michael Jackson’s Number Ones would have placed at Number 13 and a handful of Jackson and Jackson 5-related releases would have also charted. With less than two months remaining in 2009, Michael Jackson’s Number Ones remains on pace to be the year’s second-best-selling album, behind Taylor Swift’s Fearless. Forty years after its release in 1969, the Beatles’ Abbey Road, which was digitally remastered along with the rest of the Fab Four’s catalog, would have entered the Billboard Top 200 at Number Three following its September 9th release had it been eligible for that chart. This new ruling is also expected to bring an influx of perennially successful greatest hits compilations back onto the Top 200. Source: The Rolling Stone

  21. I think like mosts artists they are not instantly excellent on day 1, who is? But they certainly did become very good very quickly once their fame started. Was listening to their early stuff on Anthology 1, and there are a few less than excellent songs.

  23. There is no doubt film makers spice up scripts on films like this, as real life tends to be a bit dull, so they have to change things to keep the audience interested. This has always happened in the film business.
