I was playing Hunky Dory just last week and I noticed the similiarity to the Killers track :D . A few more tracks that I have always liked, none of them were singles but should have been. cD51cxqY_uQ Suffragette City (Live Hammersmith 1973) One of my prize possessions is the cd of his last performance as Ziggy Stardust, and his famous line " Not only is the last show of the tour, but it's the last show that we'll ever do. Thank You." YSc8W8vhCRs Panic In Detroit A great live performance 8a82arE0JSQ Bewlay Brothers I just love this song with its catchy hook chorus, and only he could get away with the ending :D

Althought I remembered his song "Space Oddity" from 1969, by 1972 I had forgotten who he was, until I heard his song "Changes", which was never a hit, but was actually Tony Blackburn's record of the week in early 1972 (I remember :D ), however once I had seen him on TOTP singing "Starman", that was it, I was hooked from then on. Over the years I had bought lots(by no means all) of his albums, and a few limited editions. here are videos of his early stuff that really got me hooked for life... n8v486aUYu0 Changes muMcWMKPEWQ Starman pBQ-S6njQQw Oh you pretty things Within a few years I had Hunky Dory, The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane & Diamond Dogs. Still 4 of my favourite albums of all time. There is no doubt in my mind that he filled the gap in popular music after the Beatles split.
  8. The Beatles track She Loves You has been revealed to be the biggest ever selling of the group's hits released in the UK. Figures out yesterday showed the 1963 single - the band's second number one which was issued as Beatlemania was in its infancy - topped a chart of the act's greatest sales tallies. I Want To Hold Your Hand came second in the chart commissioned by BBC Radio 2. The Official Chart Company - which compiles the weekly top 40 - trawled its records to pull together an all-time best-seller list of the band's singles, including the many re-releases over the years. The list is dominated by tracks up to and including 1965. As well as She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand, the top five is made up of Can't Buy Me Love, I Feel Fine and the double A-side Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out. Intriguingly, figures show that Love Me Do, the band's first chart hit which only reached number 17 on its initial release, went on to outsell the number two hit which followed it, Please Please Me, as well as later number ones such as The Ballad Of John And Yoko. Despite its enduring popularity, Yesterday - often cited as the most covered song of all time - only charted at number 24. The track was never issued as a single in the UK during the band's lifetime. It was not released until 1976 and only made number eight in the chart at the time. Similarly, Back In The USSR (ranked 29) was issued in 1976, as was a version of Strawberry Fields Forever. The original had been a double A-side with Penny Lane, which had stalled at number two in the charts at the time, ending a huge run of number ones and held from the top by Engelbert Humperdinck's Release Me. Radio Two DJ Ken Bruce said of the new chart: 'The song that gave us 'yeah yeah yeah' has obviously been getting the seal of approval from the public ever since.' The list formed part of Radio 2's Beatles Bank Holiday programmes at the weekend, put together to tie in with a major re-examination and celebration of the band. The Beatles' entire back catalogue has been remastered and is due to be released on September 9, the same day that The Beatles edition of the video game Rock Band hits the shelves. The BBC is also presenting a season of programmes to tie in the releases with documentaries and themed shows on BBC2 and BBC4 from September 5. The Top 30 biggest selling Beatles songs: 1. 14. John Lennon has gone down in history as one of the most successful songwriters of modern times. Yet right up to his death he wanted to scrap the recordings he had made with The Beatles and start all over again. According to the band’s producer Sir George Martin, Lennon always felt their records fell short of the musical vision he had in his head. “John always thought in his mind that the music was there and the reality never pleased him,” revealed Sir George. “It was so much better in his head. I don’t think he was ever satisfied and in fact we were having a chat one night just before he died and he said, ‘You know George if I could I would record everything again that we did.’ “I groaned and I said, ‘You can’t be serious?’ I said, ‘We did some great stuff, John,’ and he said, ‘No, it could be better’. I said, ‘What about Strawberry Fields Forever? And he looked at me, lowered his glasses and said, ‘Especially Strawberry Fields’. So I thought, ‘Oh God’.” In BBC Radio 2’s The Record Producers, Sir George, 83, who came from a classical music background, says he was initially unimpressed with The Beatles’ musical abilities when they went into the studio for a test session in June 1962. “They did things like Over The Rainbow... and they threw in a few of their own which weren’t spectacular. The best of the bunch was Love Me Do. “But what turned me on was the guys themselves because they had this great charisma. They made me laugh and they made me feel good to be with them. They had that quality where you feel rewarded by their presence and when they leave you, you feel as though you’ve lost a little. “I thought if they have charmed the pants off me what will they do in front of a big audience? On the strength of that I gave them a lousy contract.” The collaboration of Sir George and The Beatles went on to bring us some of the most memorable music of the Sixties, including songs such as Eleanor Rigby, Yesterday and She Loves You. The programme will give listeners the first chance to hear a newly restored version of Please Please Me one of the Beatles classics that EMI have recreated from the original master tapes using sophisticated software. The remastered Beatles albums are due for release next month. The Record Producers – Sir George Martin is on BBC Radio 2 tomorrow at 7pm. Source: Sunday Express

  23. A film based on the life of Beatles manager Brian Epstein is to be made, according to reports. A Life in the Day, written by Tony Gottelson, will be produced by US filmmaker David Permut, trade magazine Variety reported. Permut told Variety the film would centre on the early days of the Beatles and that he hoped to secure the rights to use some of their songs. Brian Epstein died in 1967, aged 32, from a sleeping pill overdose. Epstein, who sold records at his father's shop, Nems, in Liverpool, became the band's manager after hearing them play at the city's Cavern Club. "Everybody turned down the band, even though Brian promised they would become bigger than Elvis, and he finally got George Martin at EMI to change his mind and give them an audition." Epstein also managed other Liverpool stars in the 1960s including Cilla Black and Gerry and the Pacemakers. Source: BBC News
