Tension Survivor Round 10
Vegas High and PP are the 2 reasons I go back to Tension. VH is so basic yet so amazing

Tension or Tension II
I thought I was the only one in the minority but looks like a lot of people seem to like T2 judging by the poll results
-
Tension II ● album discussion
Yes. And I don't think they'll feel too bad if the next "single" from T2 doesn't get radio airplay or sales.
-
Tension II ● album discussion
Guys, honestly - the record label or Kylie herself only ever used T2 as a vehicle to sell tour tickets, and in the process get a no1 album. All the suggestions here are great but I'm sure Kylie and team will save all of the promos and colour discs for the next PROPER album. It would be a waste to spend it on T2. T2 did its job: concert tickets selling. She moved up in the record books. All parties happy.

Tension or Tension II
Tension 2 WITHOUT a DOUBT! All cohesive, all foot stomping tunes. I even love diamonds now!!

Tension II ● album discussion
A little late to the party but I’m really not sure what’s there to be ashamed of. This is a smart businesswoman that we’re talking about. Instead of releasing a deluxe edition, which is four or five bonus tracks, which would’ve also meant the same fate on the chart, she instead released it as a brand new album used it to sell her tour tickets, got a number one album and in the process made headlines with “record breaking 10th no1”. No one is going to talk about the chart run of an album or how it did on week two other than Kylie fans.

I hear you. But I'm just not sure what ELSE she and her label can do that can have the right kind of impact. She's done radio interviews, TV spots, she got prime coverage on BRITS, Audience with..... these days, even radio spots and A-lists or no1 position on NMF doesn't mean anything. Look at the Little Mix girls. It's a mystery what makes a chart hit, but I don't think promoting on 10 more UK radio shows or TV appearances will help much. For example, even on an itunes album chart (that probably has dozens of sales at most), even a BRITS performance couldn't send any of her albums back into the top 10. Of course we Kylie fans had our excuses for that (as we do when most of her promo's don't result in the chart success we were hoping for).

Tension II ● album discussion
We could post-mortem all we want about T2, distribution problems, blah blah.....but at the end of the day, if she was going to give us an updated Tension, rather than a Guest list or some add-on, I'm glad she gave us a new album and got a no1 in the process. For someone dubbed "singing budgie" and puppet 37 years ago....to retain an ardent fan base and still be serving up hot hits in 2024 is SOMETHING. And breaking records in the process.

Tension II ● album discussion
Exactly!! No one, absolutely no one other than chart loons or Kylie fans care about the chart run. All the record books care about is the peak chart position. And Kylie has always been competitive (in the most humble way) and wants to milk it as much as she can. To have 5 no1s after the age of 50 in this ageist world is remarkable.

I think that statement was misrepresented in the article. I read it as purely more cash from a streaming perspective. But I still say uk is her strongest as it’s not just the streaming, but the other channels od revenue such as tour tickets, the umpteen vinyl and CD sales, etc which she doesn’t have in the USA. At least I’m glad this article didn’t gloat about what a global smash PP was.

Dance Alone ● Sia & Kylie
Whilst Tension is a better song for me, no denying that DA and the Sia name has made her connect to a biradar audience. I still hear DA at the supermarket and the gym in between Taylor and Sabrina. Plus, it kind of looks like those inoffensive tunes that’ll get 40-50K streams a day for a long long time . Kylie is a smart businesswoman if nothing else.

I agree here. Also, as we’ve seen with a lot of artists (the little mix girls come to mind, with their solo songs which were also decent enough pop songs), a paid top placing on NMF and radio A list doesn’t seem to help much. Unless you’re a Taylor or Sabrina, and let’s be honest - Kylie can never reach that level now. I’d rather she be top priority wirh a smaller label than another small fish in a big label. Isn’t that why she split from Rocnation also, after the KMO fiasco?

Tension II ● album discussion
Doesn't have to be Spring 2026. For all we know, it could happen next year itself (like I posted earlier - Fever campaign started as the OANLT tour wrapped up)
-
Someone For Me ● 3rd single
I prefer GAG to this but this one sounds more mainstream. It’s very hands in the air.
-
Emotopop Kylie v Dancepop Kylie
Both but I’m kind of a bit bored of emotopop Kylie now as it’s kind of sounding a bit forced (as seen on HOTN). I think she peaked with emotopop with The One and ATL.

I see they’re flogging HMV exclusive yellow vinyls now!

Tension II ● album discussion
All valid points but I see this album more or less as an "excuse" to get the news of the tour out, and promote the tour instead. Even in the usa interviews, she's either talking about Padam, the legacy or the tour. And when the subject of the new album comes in, it's all only about the duets, which ironically aren't even part of the core album. I'm ok with her not promoting this album that much - I'd rather she saves all the tricks in the bag for the next big album/campagn

Tension II ● album discussion
I don't want to jinx it but if RagnBone man is the closest competition, safe to say no1 is in the bag. How's it doing in Australia? Do they do mid weeks as well?

TBA ● 18th album discussion
I quite agree that I see a new campaign/sound coming in 2025 right after the tour (very much like Fever following the OANLT tour). She seems to be enjoying this phase and is hungry for more. Given her work ethic (and now that she's carrying her studio in her luggage), she also has the flexibility of recording songs given her whirlwind schedule. I believe even Taylor's Poets album was kind of recorded during downtime between her Eras tour, correct? Doesn't seem uncommon these days with the power of technology. Kylie even proudly said in one of her T2 US interviews this week that she didn't record a single of the 4 collabs with the artist in the studio. Edited to add: For all we know, she's probably already gotten a headstart on the new soundscape/concept for the album.

Waiting for the extended versions to come out on Spotify. I'm not wasting money on her website.

Lights Camera Action ● 2nd single
Kylie herself keeps talking about Someone for me as her favourite. Not sure why they didn't go with that. It's more endearing (and who knows, could've gone viral?) than LCA.
-
Edge of Saturday Night ● The Blessed Madonna & Kylie
I was thinking whatever streams EOSN gets, will be from T2. I wasn't expecting her album to do anything at all majorly from the streaming angle.

Tension II ● album discussion
I truly truly love the album. Nothing groundbreaking but a good expansion of the Tension landscape. I can see why some folks (even my friends not in this group) find this a disappointment ("no standout track", etc.) but it's such a pleasant cohesive album with tip top production and great vocals. I keep teling them not to think of this as a new era/project/campaign but a set of B-sides of the first. LCA 7 Taboo - 8 someone for me - 10 Gone - 10 Kiss Bang bang - 8 Diamonds - 8 (this one has grown on me! And I love the Tension connection) Hello - 4 (why is everyone raving about this one?!) DTTM - 8 (as someone here or Popjustice said, it's like PWL meets Disco. Very nicely done) Should've left ya - 6

Tension II ● album discussion
She is featured HMV Headliner of the week at HMV Oxford Street, not that anyone is buying CDs. I stood there for at least 45 minutes browsing and not a single person picked up any CD (Taylor, Sabrina, anyone). Totally OT. but how is she doing in Australia?
