  1. I think #1, I want: hmmm, let's say Top 30. Surely one of the weirdest songs ever to go Top 10 but I find it ridiculously funny.

    rarely
  3. Who's buying this rubbish from will.i.am? :o Normally I love high turnovers at the top but in this case Clean Bandit has to stay at number 1 for the second week!
  4. Because it's high on pre-orders, has a prominent guest vocalist who's provided quite a lot of successful hits, has millions of views on YouTube and it's been kept for a long time to build hype around it.

  6. Hopefully never! Is there any particular reason why a one year old Half Moon Ride's track is suddenly charting so high now? Anyone?
  7. It might have a shot at number 1 unfortunately :( I voted Top 3 hoping there will be something to block it from grabbing the top spot. In the second poll, I chose flop because I'd love overhyped generic songs to disappoint on each occasion. This song still somehow manages to be slightly better than the horrific Clarity!
  8. a stupid song, it might go close to Top 5 though, number 6 I reckon.

I don't mind her but preferred Reggie, besides he's so cute :P

What an awful singles chart, hardly any new entries and so much 2013 throwaway pop :puke: A disgraceful Top 2 is followed by an inexplicable success of Trumpets, The Monster, Story Of My Life, Roar and so many others… Funnily enough Rizzle Kicks have probably the best song in the Top 30 hahaha. On the other side, I'm glad for Ellie grabbing the albums chart's throne, finally! A surprisingly good Top 12 there this week :)
  12. If someone wants to own a particular song and only that song without buying an album, he will do it anyway, legally or not. Record labels know that well and prefer getting money from that song instead of losing it. They are aware they wouldn't force anybody to buy the whole album...

It's not that WE are never happy. Some people aren't happy with slow charts, some others with high turnovers. I belong to the first group for instance. 1997-2005 are my best years when I fell in love with the British chart. 70s and 80s weren't good to me either as I don't like climbs, I enjoy first week peaks and subsequent falls. Like that it's easy to memorise peak positions. I still remember almost each hit's peak from the mentioned favourite UK chart period of mine. After the debut one could basically forget about the rest of the chart-run.

How would you know the future chart-toppers? I remember media going on about chart battles virtually each week in that period. If a number ones had been such a given, only established acts would have been getting them. 2000 saw a lot of newcomers making it all the way, not only Spiller but also Oxide & Neutrino, Sonique, Black Legend, Fragma, Madison Avenue or Modjo. Even though some of them might have been predictable due to their prior success abroad, I would have never consider Bound 4 Da Reload or You See The Trouble With Me as number one contenders. A year later Kylie Minogue's career hit competed with Victoria Beckham's flop single for the top spot, the battle was all over the media with many outlets placing bets on the Posh Spice. We all remember the outcome, I suppose. Now the excitement around weekly number ones faded completely as long runners can take almost months to get there and by the time they do, one cannot stand the song because it's so overplayed. Moreover, with a number one tag on its belt (nowadays a bit more luxurious feat than before), it will carry on sticking around on downloads for ages while other, often new or established indie acts keep struggling to enter the Top 200. It's sad and frustrating that slow charts prioritise mainstream. Thank God that some dance tracks do still have slightly 2000-esque chart runs with front loaded sales pushing them high upon release to quickly make room for other club bangers.

True, luckily people purchase also in other outlets than iTunes so there's still at least some potential for small surprises.

Well, I don't have a car to begin with hehe. I'm much more into alternative and underground music to be nostalgic about some random mainstream old hits.

More exciting certainly thanks to dynamism and unpredictability.

Oh yes, unforgettable!!! I miss those days when there were so many songs charting high and quickly making room for other tracks. Now with gift cards and other download-related mess we're exposed to nearly a year-old hugely overplayed crap in the current chart which is why I practically stopped listening to it on the radio. I hope 2014 will have a bigger turnover at #1 with big subsequent falls, the chart needs to get more exciting and unpredictable again. I remember those times when everyone was predicting which number a certain song would enter, the whole anticipation of whether it would smash or flop, wonderful. Obviously in 95% of the cases that would be its peak so a pre-release tension was immense. And now we're launching the new year with this god-awful Pitbull dance/country song that everyone knows will be big. Even though I hate Pharrell's "Happy" as well, I hope it will prevent "Timber" from grabbing the top spot. It will stay forever in the chart anyway… :(

Recently I haven't had time for shopping in music stores and I admit to having not much more storage for physical albums but I would definitely buy some new stuff when on a good price offer. On the other hand I would NEVER buy a compilation album, especially something containing big hits like Now, I wholeheartedly hate this rubbish taking up room in music shops. I mean, why would you pay for a collection of songs you can hear practically everywhere almost each day? Buying albums means discovering music to me hence I love bringing with me some local stuff while I'm on the road in some exotic countries.
  20. definitely not but there have been several exceptions as everywhere :P I'm surprised ACDC have held up so well :o
  21. finally off the top spot! btw. I adore Keane's original (not that I'm all so negative) ;)
  22. Well, the Wizzard cover wasn't good by any means but the song itself is better than "The Monster" talking/rapping for me. I'm not complaining, just expressing my opinions on particular songs ;)
  23. This peaked at #25, not #35.
  24. Well, that's why I don't listen to the chart every week and do not throw you this "negativity" so often lol. I can't imagine being regularly exposed to simple pop songs that are so overplayed and have 10-weeks+ chart life and people still claim they love them. I get bored very quickly and hate generic teeny American productions, that's all :P
  25. Untrue? It's up to taste. According to mine it's true.
