  1. Like, her record company wouldn't even release Pocketful of Sunshine because of the bad reception I Wanna Have Your Babies and the subsequent singles had. You'd think something as unusual as a UK artist reaching the top 5 on Billboard would have the record company rushing it out everywhere, but I guess not.
  2. Really odd that Calling did so minimally for Scream... considering ballad singles are usually selling a point, but maybe the high sales of the season pushed it down? It's not as if Calling did that badly either (10wks on chart and pretty much identically to the Scream single), so it wasn't a case of a front-loaded release due to more formats. No wonder they pulled the plug on the album at that point; if a ballad couldn't get sales going it wasn't going to happen tbh.
  3. "Crickets" was a nice fourth single I think; I don't see anything else on the album really being a hit if it wasn't beefed up. At least it's a fairly unique entry in her discography and brought some attention.
  4. I think there were just so much going wrong with Gerita at the time of "Desire"'s release that it was hard to work up any sort of enthusiasm; the disaster with the tour, the There's Something About Geri documentary, the story about her trying to get "Some Girls" from Richard X which made people make unfavourable comparisons because it does very much come across as a "I can't get the track I want so give me something similar" and of course the lack of playlisting and overall promotion. It was just like they entirely gave up; considering how they went all out for "Ride It" it was very underwhelming. I never liked Here It Comes Again and On the Horizon (the Reason era is definitively her coffee table era); I do however remember how enthusiastic the fanbase was at the latter as a single and how it was going to turn it around for her... only for it to come in at #14 and then obviously it's a bad song all of a sudden.
  5. Good for her for going with memoir instead of autobiography.
  6. From experience, the fact that she hasn't put together an album yet is worrying. Costs will catch up with her and she can't just keep throwing money at bad.
  7. Gerita decided not to release Love Never Loved Me just so that we could have these discussions! God, what a visionairy, unlike that bully Emmarrr.

  9. No one really expects this to be successful - if it is it'll be against all odds.
  10. But it's funny being incredibly petty and remembering who said what 15 years ago
  11. Gerita is such a true talented artisté unlike OTHER people *cough* Emma *cough* Melanie C *cough* Melanie B *cough* Posh *cough* Some people have VISIONS over their solo careers, others will just release things and hope it sticks!
  12. There's a thing as being a worthy winner and a worthy loser - Amelle is a loser who has to perform at festivals. Mutya won, and we should all be happy about that
  13. Which is a dumb idea. She's better off putting up pre-orders for the album if she's serious about releasing it, otherwise she might end up faffing about.
  14. I mean, there was pretty much only one user who thought she actually couldn't sing :P But yeah, her performance on Eurovision will pretty much have to find a balance between when she joins in on the dancing, singing and what goes on the backing vocal. And I would probably skip the high note because even if she ends up performing it perfectly it's not really a "moment" in the song that's worth the risk. It would be one thing if it was a ballad, then it might be worth taking that risk, but as it is the song is fine without it.
  15. That was actually really enjoyable - not just because the vocals were better, but she felt a bit more in her comfort zone.

  17. To be fair - Ultimate Kylie and What Will The Neighbours Say? were released a week apart in November 2004; likely they recorded it for that album and it didn't make the cut so it went to Kylie instead. So it wasn't like they had recorded it as a potential next single for their album and suddenly heard it in a shopping mall.
  18. Yeah, exactly. I think it was worth giving it a shot, even as a stand-alone single if she didn't want to waste more money re-releasing the album. As you said, it actually having been a smash hit in continental Europe would've been a selling point; clearly it struck a chord with people.
  19. Well my nice thing to say is that it at least isn't chasing after a TikTok hit. With that said, I wonder what her expectations are for this single? She should really put up album pre-orders at this point if she wants to get it out.
  20. People who are saying that it was bland... what on earth do you expect from an Emma Bunton solo album?
  21. Eeeh, it's only just started garnering airplay so I think it has a long way to go yet.
  22. People who saw her on Little Mix's tour said she sounded fine then - this partly appears to be an issue with dancing while trying to sing and keep up with a relatively upbeat song, with maybe a bit nervousness mixed in. And you don't think other countries are reconfiguring their performances to sound as good as possible (hell, hasn't there been a country that changed their initial entry)? Nowhere did I say they should "fake" anything.
  23. I mean, I'd still at least try First Day of My Life in the UK - I know part of it's success in Germany was that it was tied to a tv show, but it charted well beyond that in a bunch of countries. Maybe she didn't want to commit to a UK re-release, still, it's probably one of the few "missed" opportunities in Mel's career.
  24. Avril is a bit mismatched timewise from the Spice Girls by about five years (on the other hand, I'm the same age as Avril and remember lots of my peers being into Complicated and Sk8er Boi at the time, so maybe not), but yeah, she obviously still sells tickets of her own, which is why I'd be a bit surprised why she'd agree to do this? Although maybe she'd see a net gain in getting slightly older women interested in her music since those still likely buy cds.
  25. Eeh, I don't think there's any real hit on there if we're being quite frank here. It's... eerr, not the worst, but more middle-of-the-road that she started with Reason. I was surprised she didn't even try with First Day of My Life in the UK though. Maybe radio pluggers had an adverse reaction to it, but on the other hand I doubt they had a better reaction to Better Alone.
