I just saw that Awake and Breathe is certified Platinum (it was certified Silver, Gold and Platinum on 10.12.1999) - it must be seriously over-certified, more so than All Saints Studio One (Gold) :o
  2. Dreadful album.
  3. why does she release such dreadful music mother is like the worst song of 2023

Video: vTepsexeH4g I'm just going to assume the car is a part of a product placement deal  The video is ok for a girl group video whose last hit was like 24 years ago, with that said I think it would be better if it had been one long shot instead of interspersed with solo shots and then the sitting in a parked car thing (then again, I'd just assume it was a product placement).

You kind of have to wonder if any of the Hear'Say songs that Ray Hedges ended up doing for them were recycled B*Witched tracks. Though I guess the Popstars album was released before they were dropped. Same with Cher's Alive Again.

You'd think they'd at least be able to add "Where Will You Go?" since they had already started promoting it:

Oh right - I don't keep track of their discography, but it's an updated digital version of this: https://www.discogs.com/release/8106161-BWi...-The-Collection To be fair, the cover did desperately need to be changed.
  8. I agree, I just love the energy on the track and how unpolished it is - which is ironically probably why they passed over pushing it in favour of the more polished pop packages that were Borderline and Lucky Star. Still, it's a shame really. "Madonna" is probably still my favourite album of hers.

Birthday: LCJIWS9Zxs8 Unsurprisingly, the artwork reveals that a best of is in the works - C'est La Vie: The Collection. ETA: seems like a few automatic uploads have happened, their ABBA cover will probably be on it: zR4TzcvE5I0 Play That Funky Music too: uW7vI10UttY ETA 2: it's already out digitally: https://music.apple.com/gb/album/cest-la-vi...tion/1676463610 It's 35 tracks, so we'll see if they end up releasing a shorter version on cd/LP.
  10. I always wondered why Everybody and Burning Up weren't issued for re-releases after Holiday blew up - I guess they just felt like Lucky Star and Borderline were stronger songs at that point (and they weren't wrong with commercial suitability), still since the demand for Madonna was so high you'd think some markets might've taken it into their own hands. ETA: actually looking at it, Borderline and Lucky Star both bombed on their initial releases  I guess it's just confusing to read these things in hindsight.
  11. 110%. It's an obvious single choice and if it wasn't released I'd think we'd all wonder why.
  12. It sounds pretty much as I expected with none of the lovely subtlety of the original, but what can you expect in this TikTok era?

  14. cRS8IcJm93E Can't really see what they could even do for #NeonNights20. Bless them, but they've truly milked this album dry.
  15. Bless Gerita improving the dance routine while evil witch Bunton is trying to correct her
  16. From the title I thought it was going to be some bland singer-songwriter shit. 'tis fun, but a lot will depend on the staging.

IIRC, they commissioned remixes to Fever to have something for the clubs while Bad Girl was being promoted; you can tell that the video for Fever feels more like something that would be played on screens in clubs rather than on MTV. I think after the "underperformance" of Bad Girl, some markets just went ahead and released Fever on its own. I don't think it was released in the US beyond the clubs (which was always the plan?).

    statements is rubbish facts x
  19. Glad to see SWV getting some love - I feel like they often become forgotten in the 90s girl group scuffle, though I guess they weren't that big in Europe.
  20. I think since Back in the Day is the #1 track on the EP, it's what counts towards the singles chart. It's down to #9, but amazing that it could at least briefly peak at #8 since it's something they just dropped midweek with no fanfare.
  21. I always got the impression that Pixie Lott appealed to a young audience (think pre-tweens) and that audience just never followed her along to their tweens/teen years. It does feel like she was a pop star that could've had a career a decade or two ago when television was filled with kid's programs to promote on; but as it was she just had no place in pop.

The issue is that they clearly wanted to launch her as the "UK Lady Gaga" and that was just not the kind of artist she was ever going to be. She always struck me as looking painfully uncomfortable with everything going around her with the "machine" and I suspect that it put off a lot of people (well, me at least). Had they marketed her with more of an "indie"/Saint Etienne vibe she might've had more consistent chart fortunes (thus cultivated a more loyal following), but also probably would've never scored as big of a hit as "Remedy".
