Yeah, it was kind of funny first hearing her dancing around the topic, only to ask when the podcast was being released before talking about it (it was recorded after their National Lottery NYE show performance, so I guess November / December). Nothing new really - the Glastonbury gig really seems to have opened the floodgates for them, especially it having to be closed off since nobody really expected that much interest in them. The other thing I noticed was when she talked about her first pregnancy, which was around 2016/17, she really talks like she was completely away from the industry (and decorating nurseries - despite no experience in interior decorating!). It just goes to show you how dangerously close they must've been for a while to call it quits, which is understandable. I'm glad they pushed through, but it must've been frustrating.

Nice to hear that she's appreciative of her solo music and doesn't regard it as a "failure" - she seemed pretty bummed when Ghosts bombed, which of course led to her exit from the music industry. Miles Leonard (former Parlophone exec that signed her) apparently texted her during co-vid about having to stop the car when it came on to listen through it in its entirety, so it's not forgotten at least.

The latest actual sales for NN are 107k (2018), in 2009 it was actually just over 100k (101k), so the constant reissues helped. I think pre-X-Factor reissues it was just under 100k.

Right - I think the 200k number comes from her old webmaster who definitively blew up figures - I remember her old site claiming that her remix album Love and Kisses and... had sold 60k! I also remember him giving a 120k number for Neon Nights when it was actually under 100k for the longest while.

I prefer the original I Begin To Wonder to I Begin To Spin, which is nice and all, but not essential. Don't Wanna Loose This Groove actually takes a track that's nice and heightens it. I'm not sure if it would've gotten all the way to #5 without that remix.

Yup, and they downgraded again for the Change tour, making me think the GH arena tour didn't do quite as well as they'd hope. Maybe if Mutya had stayed on, 2.0 would've done arenas more consistently, but as has been said - their selling point is mainly their vocals and not the razzle-dazzle. The only way for them to start doing arena tours is if the demand becomes too big like it got with Adele.

:lol: Yeah, she's not going to go and promote an album that wasn't even officially released in the UK initially that features a #6 "hit" single. Getting a Mighty Hoopla slot is a major feat for her, but that's about as big as it's going to get. Maybe she'll do a few interviews for stuff like Retro Pop Magazine and Attitude (is that still a thing?). And let's be honest here - it's not as if Never Or Now is some sort of lost classic - it sounds like they eventually just tossed together the tracks she recorded to make a bit of money back. There's some decent tracks on there, but it's not a cohesive piece of work.

I don't think even 2.0 would be able to do it to be honest - they were never marketed as a show-ey big arena type of group and always did more intimate type of shows without dancers and flashy screens. Add that the line-ups never lasted enough for them to build up to arena touring type of demand that would've forced them to upscale their shows (like Adele eventually had to do). I think the O2 gig is basically them dipping their toes in very carefully, possibly staging a bit more elaborate show to build interest in touring larger venues and see what they can do/be comfortable with.

While I can admire her for singing the song live, it's one of those songs that just weren't meant to especially in a television studio. I think Top of the Pops pushed the acts to sing live during this era though.

To be fair, from memory 4.0 had only signed a one single deal with Sony with the option for more - obviously, with Freedom basically being given away they weren't interested in the "more" part and 4.0 just did all their booked gigs and then more or less split unofficially. I believe a huge part of the contention in these cases are who the active group is - ie if 4.0 had continued they might've still had the right to use the name because of their continued use of it, but since they ceased the rights went back to 1.0; the issue was always on proving that 4.0 had stopped using the name actively. I think that's why we had that weird report about 4.0 supposedly touring Europe in 2014/15; it was a last ditch effort by Crown to prove that the group was still active. 1.0 might have always had the rights to use the name for things like performances though, see "S Club" in their various forms despite Fuller owning the brand. That's just my very rudimentary understanding of the issue, I'm certainly not a lawyer.

Nobody's really surprised about her feelings about Sweet 7 - even if we put aside the quality of the tracks, it's obvious it wasn't a fun or creative process. I don't believe they even worked with the actual producers of most of the tracks, but associates. Being asked if they could do harmonies must've been soul-killing.

A vinyl + cd release should definitively make it chart, even if it's just a bonus at this point.

I mean, Kaci was on Curb which has next to no presence in Europe, so it was a given it was going to do nothing here unfortunately unless it was licensed to another label to handle.

Interesting! I wonder if this means they've signed to a proper label with all the vinyls and things also coming out? Champagne or Guinness wasn't bad, but you could tell it was done on a budget. I guess they could try putting out a new greatest hits with a new single? I guess it would also tie into them releasing their albums on vinyl.

Honestly, I'm surprised her second album Bring It On isn't a Buzzjack classic - it's deliciously and deliriously trashy. Body Shots is a tune and a half and perfect for that 'era' of pop music.

Oh yeah, this annoyed me. Fair enough that he's trying to gauge interest in potential releases and realising that it's unfeasable due to Holly's lack of popularity, but he didn't need to pretend that he wasn't potentially interested in doing it in the first place. He could've just said that he thought Footprints and State of Mind are good albums, but that public reaction to Holly's political stances means it's not something that can realistically be printed. Essentially saying that those that were interested are horrible people is like, no.
