Dropped 11.1% which might be a record with the exception for the week following the Christmas sales. I would not be surprised if the 1.29 price is initially causing sales to slump.
  2. She is close, probably next week the way "Dead and Gone" is going with digital sales. However, #1 is unlikely.

No surprises in the top 10. I think the top 2 will stay the same for at least the next two weeks. Lada Gaga and Soulja Boy will jockey for #3 and 4, with "Poker Face" winning in the sales race but "Kiss Me ..." in airplay due to Urban radio spins. My bet is "Right Round" will stay on top for 7-9 weeks.
  4. I agree. Flo Rida will be around 40,000 pts., TI/JT around 28,000 and Laga Gaga over 21,000. No end in sight for "Right Round".
  5. "Poker Face" has a chance to get #1 on Digital Songs, but on the HOT100? That would be a miracle considering Flo Rida's popularity on the Urban chart.
  6. "Right Round" is still outselling the #2 song by almost a 2:1 ratio it looks like. So if Poker Face sells 190K, Right Round is around 350 to 360K. It could be #1 for 10 weeks or more based on its' tremendous growth at radio.

No big surprises after seeing the digital sales yesterday. "Sober" is doing very well at radio and its sales are steady so it could continue to climb. Most weeks "Dead and Gone" would be #1 since it has over 30,000 chart points, but it is unlucky that its' popularity coincides with the biggest hit so far this year from Flo Rida
  8. Flo Rida's song did not drop as much as I thought it would. It is shaping up to be the biggest hit of 2009. It will easily be above 50,000 chart points on the March 7th, 2009 Hot 100 chart. "Poker Face" may jump into the top 5, but the big jump will be Soulja Boy's latest. It is also doing very well at radio so it is a definite contender for at least top 3 in the next few weeks. Nice to see The Veronicas turn things around again.
  9. "Low" by Flo Rida has sold more than 4.5 million copies. "Apologize" by Timbaland featuring OneRepublic has gone past 4 million as well.
  10. The Digital Songs chart was re-posted by Soundscan because "F**k You" by Lily Allen was initially left off. It debuted at #47 with 39,674 in sales. Ting ting must have dropped below the Top 50. (source is Pulse Music Board).
  11. Yes it is a record by a long shot. The previous record was "Low" by Flo Rida at 467K the week following Christmas 2007. The question is why are digital downloads so high the last couple of weeks? Has Itunes removed digital rights management from its' store allowing owners of other MP3 players to purchase there? I cannot recall another non-Christmas week in which three songs sold more than 200,000 downloads.

Probably the closest "Heartless" will get to #1 with Flo Rida set to jump to #1 next week. Kelly Clarkson's hit is gaining in airplay so it may rebound in the coming weeks. "Poker Face" is still a potential #1.
  13. It is nice to see "Fear" by Lily Allen picking up sales. I bought it yesterday from Itunes. Flo Rida looks like the new #1 for the period ending Feb. 15th, and the new Hot 100 #1 for the chart dated February 28th. The turnover continues to accelerate at the top of the HOT 100. I wonder when Billboard will fiddle with its' formula again to put more emphasis back on airplay now that digital sales are so massive.

"Low" by Flo Rida still has the one week record. I think it sold 467K the week following Christmas 2007. However, the Eminem single sets the one week record for those weeks that do not follow Christmas. A very impressive achievement. It also looks like the Eminem single boosted sales for many other songs since even older tunes like "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz showed a bump in sales. It is pretty obvious what the Hot 100 #1 will be, the only question is what songs will land in positions 2-10. Next week will see the full impact of the Grammys hit the Digital Songs chart.

In the digital songs top 50: 5 songs have sold more than 3 million downloads; 7 songs have sold more than 2 million but less than 3 million downloads; 8 songs have sold more than 1 million but less than 2 million downloads. So 40% of the Top 50 have sold over a million. I wonder when the RIAA is going to ditch the Gold designation of 500,000+ and move it to 1 million plus. Maybe 500,000+ should be silver, with Platinum going to the old level of 2 million+. It now seems pretty easy to sell 1 million plus. The latest Nickelback single spent only 1 week on the Hot100 top 10, and is already over 1.3 million in sales.
  16. I heard the Eminem et al song once this weekend. Sounds pretty much like all the other stuff he has done. Switched the station. It should be interesting to see if this hip-hop song has more legs than other recent superstar releases (e.g. 50 Cent's).

Kelly Clarkson may still be #1, but I was surprised but how much sales slipped for the top 10. "Single Ladies" airplay is dropping and "My Life Sucks" airplay is increasing, so it could come down to internet streaming. I personally now look at the Digital Songs chart as the true US music popularity chart. Next week Eminem, Dr. Dre, etc. will likely hit #1.
  18. It really is shocking to see how much album sales have dropped in the US. I know this is a low point in the year, but still the #10 album only selling 28,670 copies in a country with over 300 million people? Incredible.
  19. "Womanizer" - 1st week sales were 285,782, 2nd week 200,928.
  20. According to Radio & Records, Beyonce's single is starting to lose radio audience. "Heartless" is still gaining but at a slower pace, as is "Just Dance". Kelly Clarkson's single is doing very well, but is limited to Top 40 and Hot AC. It could be very close on the Hot100 next week with West, Clarkson and Lady Gaga all in contention.

Not a big surprise to me, the interesting question though is, will Kelly Clarkson stay at #1 next week? No strong contenders for #1 with the Fray still aways back at #8 and "Just Dance" losing sales quickly. "Poker Face" has a chance at #1 in a few weeks but is just developing at radio.
  22. She should be over 30,000 chart points on the Hot 100 which will be a comfortable lead over the #2 song (likely "Just Dance"). So a new record jump of 97-1 will be set, beating "Womanizer". The Fray's latest has a very good week making them a good bet for top 10 on the Hot 100.

Kelly Clarkson must have debuted strictly on radio and AOL/Yahoo airplay since digital single was not released until the 20th. A move from 97 to 1 is a strong possibility. Sales of 280K might do it if her airplay point gains are as strong next week as they were this week. The songs in the top 5 are all starting to fade in sales and the All American Rejects still do not have enough airplay.
  24. Just Dance may have enough sales points to stay at #1 on Billboard's HOT100, since Kanye West's decrease was greater. Future #1s include the Pussycat Dolls, T.I. Featuring Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga. It will interesting to see where the new Kelly Clarkson single ends up on next week's chart. It is already #1 on Itunes.

Billboard's US and Canadian Hot 100 are based on a Saturday issue date that is actually about 11 to 13 days ahead of the survey period. For digital sales the period is Monday to Sunday, and for airplay it is Wednesday to Tuesday. So the Billboard Hot 100 dated Saturday, January 24th, is based on digital sales data for the period Monday, January 7th to Sunday, January 13th, and airplay data for the period Wednesday, January 9th to Tuesday, January 15th. Billboard posts the Hot 100 on its website for the January 24th issue on Thursday, January 16th, mails them out on the 17th and they arrive starting the 19th (I will probably get mine on Wednesday). Hope that helps.
