Azerbaijan 2010
Hello hello? According to oikosh*te, they're preparing another new version of the song, with some traditional flutey kind of thing included.

Ireland vs. Norway
I really don't think It's For You is a YRMU close. Not nearly to the extent of the Norwegian entry anyways.

The Official Buzzjack Hot 40
http://i48.tinypic.com/2dtzkly.jpg Hey everyone! Time for this week's chart compiled, as usual from sales, airplay and multichart data. Can Rihanna make it another week at the top or can Gaga and Beyonce finally snatch the top spot? Time to find out! Asterisks are bullets, for songs increasing in points and generally on their way "up" the chart. This week / Last week / Artist - Title (Peak) (Weeks) 1 2 LADY GAGA Feat. BEYONCE Telephone* (1) (13) 2 3 Cheryl COLE Parachute* (2) (7) 3 1 RIHANNA Rude Boy (3x1) (9) 4 4 Ellie GOULDING Starry Eyed (2) (8) 5 5 Jason DERULO In My Head (2) (9) 6 6 Alicia KEYS Empire State Of Mind (Part II) (1x1) (12) 7 7 Tinie TEMPAH Pass Out* (7) (4) 8 9 Gabriella CILMI On A Mission (8) (7) 9 10 BLACK EYED PEAS Rock That Body* (9) (5) 10 18 INNA Hot* (10) (2) 11 8 TIMBALAND Feat. Katy PERRY If We Ever Meet Again (2) (9) 12 12 Justin BIEBER Feat. LUDACRIS Baby* (12) (3) 13 13 Pixie LOTT Gravity* (13) (6) 14 11 OWL CITY Fireflies (5x1) (11) 15 14 LADY GAGA Bad Romance (6x1) (23) 16 28 YOUNG MONEY Bedrock* (16) (5) 17 16 JLS One Shot (4) (11) 18 32 BOYZONE Gave It All Away* (18) (4) 19 25 Diana VICKERS Once* (19) (2) 20 24 Paloma FAITH Upside Down* (20) (4) 21 15 KE$HA Feat. 3OH!3 Blah Blah Blah (11) (8) 22 30 MUMFORD & SONS The Cave* (22) (2) 23 27 McLEAN My Name* (23) (3) 24 20 Leona LEWIS I Got You (8) (9) 25 23 FLORENCE & THE MACHINE & Dizzee R. You Got The Dirtee Love (17) (6) 26 26 GOLDFRAPP Rocket (26) (4) 27 34 SCOUTING FOR GIRLS This Ain't A Love Song* (27) (2) 28 17 SUGABABES Wear My Kiss (4) (9) 29 33 IYAZ Replay* (2) (12) 30 22 Robbie WILLIAMS Morning Sun (22) (5) 31 NE USHER Feat. will.i.am OMG* (31) (1) 32 21 DAISY DARES YOU Feat. CHIPMUNK Number One Enemy (18) (4) 33 31 FLORENCE & THE MACHINE You've Got The Love (10) (20) 34 NE Joshua RADIN I'd Rather Be With You* (34) (1) 35 29 CHIDDY BANG Opposite Of Adults (26) (5) 36 RE JOURNEY Don't Stop Believin'* (26) (8) 37 39 Kate NASH Doo Wah Doo* (37) (2) 38 38 3OH!3 Feat. Katy PERRY Starstrukk (3) (15) 39 19 GRAMOPHONEDZIE Why Don't You (19) (4) 40 RE JAY-Z Feat. Alicia KEYS Empire State Of Mind* (4) (26) So as you can see, after three months in the chart overall, debuting in December, Lady Gaga and Beyonce finally make it to the top with Telephone. It is GaGa's 5th number one on this chart, but more significantly, it is Beyonce's first, with several near misses last year, especially Sweet Dreams, which spent 5 weeks at #2 over the summer. Rihanna has to make do with third place as she is also overtaken by Cheryl Cole who reaches a new peak with Parachute. Other than that it's fairly static at the top of the chart, apart from one big climber from Inna, which makes it into the top ten thanks to climbs on all three charts represented here. Only two new entries this week, one from Usher, thanks purely to sales success, and another from Joshua Radin, one of the airplay hits of the week. Just a couple of oddities this week: one being Boyzone's climb, which is thanks to a massive sales surge after Stephen Gately's memorial TV show, and Journey's re-entry with Don't Stop Believing, which becomes chart eligible again after sneaking back into the airplay chart this week. Hope you enjoyed the chart, and Tom or I will be back next week! Have a good week everyone :)

Agnes - On And On (UK remix)
A whole year after Release Me...unbelievable.

Why was this song overlooked?
Same...I actually tried it and there's no sign. I have seen the song being posted in other forums (not under the same pretence admittedly) and I really have to stress that it isn't a dreadful song, but it's really not right for Eurovision in any sense, and I'm extremely put off by the arrogance of the person/people behind it and the stance that they are the obvious and best alternative.
-
Why was this song overlooked?
The song is not great and would need a massive overhaul to even be considered in the running if it made Eurovision. For a "Eurovision junkie" they certainly don't appear to have watched Eurovision for the last ten years. I'm also starting to think that for somebody who just stumbled across the song, this Emily person sure is passionate about it...

Ukraine 2010
It should be up on the official Eurovision YT channel by tomorrow.

So yeah....Azerbaijan...hmmm... Good song eh?

Running Order Draw 2010
In the last 5 contests, the winners has come from positions 17-20 four times out of five, and 24th once. I don't really think 22nd is much worse than 24th or 25th. It could even be better with the lines opening from the beginning, and I've always argued that by the time the last song comes around, people have already made up their mind about what they're going to vote for. Plus it's sort of an unwritten rule with the wildcards that you don't pick the last position. I think Spain bucked that trend last year and decided to be a bit cheeky, but mostly it's not really the done thing. I'd also say that it doesn't make that much of a difference whether they're performing 5th or 8th...they didn't have much to choose from did they. Maybe it's a lucky number or something.

Georgia 2010
Here's the video: xvJlQdXwJpY The song itself has been revamped and suddenly it's one of the best ballads in the competition :o

2010 Odds Thread
Although for 3/1 to yield a decent return you'd need to stick a fair amount on it. And while it's definitely one of the front runners I don't feel certain enough to stick anything major on it. Agreed about Albania. They'll do slightly better than the traditional qualification followed by poor showing in the final, but I can't see it being a major competitor.

I would argue that it's already not worth it. An each way bet on Romania at 50/1 on the other hand....

Ah. You'll probably want to keep it that way.

Tyron, you've missed out a country.... I don't know who though.

Ireland 2010
Norway I can see (even though I personally think Niamh has the better song and voice, but the home crowd can't be ignored), but Azerbaijan is appealing to a completely different audience. I don't think they'll be in much direct competition for votes.

Your rankings of 2010 songs
I've noticed that most of the listenable entries deserving to get into the final are in the second semi. There is a considerable difference in quality between the two semis this year me thinks...

Ukraine 2010
Or because it was the only one they'd heard in full, and had a couple of weeks to get to know it, as opposed to the rest of the 20 second clips.

It's out on May 14th :)

Norway 2008
I knew the second I saw this thread had been bumped that my prediction would be brought up! I always liked it but I genuinely never thought it would go anywhere! I notice that I wrote that just after the national final so I was probably still in shock that it had beaten off the bigger ballads and more eye-catching uptempos. I'm very glad that it did so well in the end, but I was always shocked about it! I hadn't counted on how perfectly it would be performed and its excellent spot in the draw but still, I honestly didn't think that a nice midtempo song simply performed well could trouble the upper reaches of the scoreboard.

Mika - Kick Ass // 12/04/10
I love it, especially those growly high notes during the verses! If only he'd added a huge falsetto "redoooooone" in the intro then it'd be perfect :D

Belarus 2010
Apparently Belarus have changed their song and it is now this: Butterflies http://naviny.by/rubrics/culture/2010/03/1...video_117_3999/ I think it's very nice and it's your typical boy/girl teen pop group album closer song. It's another feckin ballad though, so hopefully Ukraine will redress the balance by choosing an uptempo!

Ukraine 2010
I don't know why everyone is up in arms about this, it is perfectly within the rules and it's not even like it is the first time a song has been changed. Ok it is a little unorthadox but the circumstances are exceptional, what with the sudden change of management, so if a country can alter a song almost beyond recognition in the space before the deadline, and sometimes even after it, I don't see why they can't change the song, especially when it was never a popular choice anyway, even before the song itself was chosen.

2010 Odds Thread
In the late 1990s and early 2000s they definitely were, but I think that changed a few years ago and they can now put together the recap very quickly using the actual performances.
