300. "Hey there Delilah" Plain White T's (4 weeks) Reached #1: 9 September 2007 UK Chart Peak: #2 One of the biggest one-hit wonders in my chart, Chicago band Plain White T's topped my chart for four weeks with "Hey There Delilah", which was #3 in the year-end chart, but they never troubled my top 40 again. However I still love this song. The song's Delilah (Di Crescenzo) is an American cross country and steeplechase runner who frontman Tom Higgenson met through a mutual friend. Their first encounter inspired him to write this song but they were never in a relationship. The song topped the charts in the US, Canada and Germany. VH1 ranked this #78 in their 100 Greatest Songs of the 2000's list. EbJtYqBYCV8

Non-Number Ones who could have been number one
The most famous cases are Last Christmas and Whenever Wherever which had huge first week sales that would get them #1 in 99% of any given week, but were unlucky to be released on the same week as other giant-selling record-breaking records.

Why don't ballads to as well as they used to?
Comments in every Buzzjack Sunday Chart thread nowadays: Ballad on chart "This is so boring!" "Can this please go away from the chart?" "Argh! Can't believe this dirge is climbing again!" " *mutes radio* " "I hope this tasteless saccarine doesn't get any higher" Mid/uptempo song on chart "Love this!" "This never gets old for me" "Ouch! Why is this dropping so fast?" 290. "Shine" Take That (2 weeks) Reached #1: 18 March 2007 UK Chart Peak: #1 Twelve years after being #1 with "Back for good", Take That were once again at the top of my chart with "Shine". This of course broke the record of the biggest timespan between Number Ones in my chart. Lily Allen's 2009 song "Who'd have known" used an interpolation of "Shine" and credited Take That in it. For the same reason, Take That are credited in T-Pain 2011 hit "5 O'Clock" as it samples "Who'd have known" even if the sample does not contain the "Shine" interpolation. JwC1Ctrj6Xk

281. "Jump" Madonna (1 week) Reached #1: 29 October 2006 UK Chart Peak: #9 The "Confessions on the dancefloor" era proved to be Madonna's most successful in my chart as the album spawned three #1 hits (and it could have been four since "Get together" spent three weeks at #2 locked behind "Unfaithful"). Unlike "Hung up" and "Sorry" though, "Jump" just stayed a week at #1 and rapidly went down the chart. The track was also a #1 in Hungary and Italy. SIeP9aQqb0A
