231. "Re-tratamento" Da Weasel (1 week) Reached #1: 19 July 2004 Having released their first album in 1993, Da Weasel steadily became Portugal's biggest hip hop group and this was the song that turned them into #1 acts in my chart. The bare-chested lady in the music video is from Czech Republic and has been working as one of the models on the Portuguese version of "The Price is Right" since 2003. BIVNpuaAl4A

230. "Força" Nelly Furtado (5 weeks) Reached #1: 14 June 2004 UK Chart Peak: #40 2004 was of course the year of the Euro in Portugal. With all the nation swept away by the Euro fever, this was the song that defined the event and all the feelings felt by the Portuguese along the way. Of course, those darn Greek ruined the party but it remains one of the happiest periods of our nation. "Força" was the 2004 year-end #1 song in my chart and the first song in eight years to spend more than four consecutive weeks at #1 in my chart. GUkBa7uMIqU

229. "Breaking the habit" Linkin Park (1 week) Reached #1: 7 June 2004 UK Chart Peak: #39 A stand-out in their repertoir (especially due to its drum'n'bass beat), "Breaking the habit" became Linkin Park's thrid #1 in my chart (and also hit #1 in Poland). After its first week at #1, the song stayed the four following weeks at #2 behind the song that knocked them off the topspot. Contrary to general belief, this song is not about Chester Bennington's struggle with substance abuse because Mike Shinoda began writing it even before meeting him. However Bennington related so much to the song that he had difficulty singing it live until almost a year after the album Meteora came out. v2H4l9RpkwM

228. "Everytime" Britney Spears (1 week) Reached #1: 31 May 2004 UK Chart Peak: #1 After a three year drought, Britney was back into my chart's #1 as "Everytime" duly became her ninth #1. It was also #1 in the UK, Australia, Ireland and Hungary. The video stirred a lot of controversy for its implicit depiction of suicide. James Franco sings this song in the film "Springbreakers". 8YzabSdk7ZA

227. "Oye el boom" David Bisbal (2 weeks) Reached #1: 17 May 2004 Yet another #1 for David Bisbal, his last in my chart to date although he has since occasionally managed to chalk some minor hits. He sang one of the versions of "Wavin' flag", the 2010 World Cup anthem, perhaps foreseeing that Spain would win it. Bisbal's last top 40 hit is actually from 2014, with "Diez mil maneras" peaking at #24. TRJ5GyIkPoc

226. "Dragostea din tei" O-Zone (1 week) Reached #1: 10 May 2004 UK Chart Peak: #3 Who would have thought that a song in Romanian would be #1 in my charts? But that's what Moldovan pop group O-Zone managed to do when they took the world by storm with their hit "Dragostea din tei". Such was the massive success of the track that it was the biggest selling single of the year in Germany (3rd of the decade!), France, Austria, Netherlands and Switzerland and also hit #1 in Ireland, Norway, Denmark and Wallon Belgium. O-Zone also hit #10 in my chart with follow-up single "Despre tine". All three members have since pursued solo careers. by Romanian singer Paula Mitrache under the name Haiducii was #1 in Italy and Sweden and was #5 in my chart. 3FFC6tDSdmY

225. "E tudo vai mudar" Non Stop (2 weeks) Reached #1: 26 April 2004 Non Stop scored their second #1 with the first single of their second album, making this the first time (and only to date) my chart had three consecutive #1s by Portuguese acts. Non Stop disbanded after their ill-advised 2006 Eurovision entry. Andreia and Liliana have enjoyed some success as featured singers in some popular dance tracks and recently teamed up again for a record under the name Project Kala. nUqiIK7aZVA

224. "Gotta get away" Fonzie (1 week) Reached #1: 19 April 2004 Portuguese punk-rock band Fonzie had already some credit in the punk-rock circuit worldwide, touring all over the world since 1998, before having a massive hit in their homeland. They had two top 20 hits in my chart before going all the way to #1 with "Gotta get away", which remains their biggest hit in Portugal. The track was also featured in some American MTV shows like "Laguna Beach" and "MTV Made". rx0x3jlwWLs

223. "Carta" Toranja (1 week) Reached #1: 12 April 2004 2004 was the most successful year for Portuguese music in my chart with six homegrown #1 hits in my chart (plus Nelly Furtado who is of Portuguese descent). One of the acts that made it all the way to the topspot was rockband Toranja with this ballad that became famous for the huge quantity of words the singer was able to scram into one verse. Toranja had four top 5 hits in my chart before disbanding in 2006. Lead singer Tiago Bettencourt has since had a solo career. GKl6hK2IzbY

222. "Buleria" David Bisbal (3 weeks) Reached #1: 22 March 2004 David Bisbal finished second in the first season of Spanish talent show Operación Triunfo but out of the show's alumni, he went on to be the most successful as his debut album "Corazón latino" sold a million copies in Spain alone. In 2004, he released his second album (which I bought) and the title track became his second #1 in my chart. wTm-Q43ZQek

221. "Feeling alive" Gomo (1 week) Reached #1: 15 March 2004 After being involved in several indie bands in the 1990's, Paulo Gouveia began making music on his own under the name of Gomo in 2001. In 2004, he released his debut album "Best of Gomo" and was nominated Best Portuguese Act at that year's MTV Europe Music Awards. "Feeling alive" remains his biggest hit and and its music video has went down as one of the best Portuguese videos of all time due to its "How to make a music video" theme. Gomo last troubled my chart in 2009. NGotywaj8jQ

The track was the second in a string of six consecutive #1 hits in her native Australia and the 7th best selling single of 2003 there. In 2005, Australian band Fido recorded a punkrock version of the song. YMYUYtsUGgg

210. "O amor a Portugal" Ennio Morricone & Dulce Pontes (3 weeks) Reached #1: 10 November 2003 Legendary maestro/composer Ennio Morricone broke the record as the oldest person to top my chart at age 75, by teaming up with Portuguese singer Dulce Pontes (of Eurovision 1991 fame) for the album "Focus", where Pontes performed some rewoked tunes by Morricone. That is the case of this track, based around Morricone's soundtrack from "Once Upon a Time in the West". Dulce Pontes premiered this song in the inaugural football match of the new Alvalade Stadium between Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United, in which an eighteen-year old Cristiano Ronaldo shined so brightly that he was signed to the Red Devils almost imediately.
