    126. "It's my life" Bon Jovi (2 weeks) Reached #1: 2 June 2000 UK Chart peak: #3 Proving that in the new millenium, they were a tried and true force that survived the 80's hair-metal era, Bon Jovi had a huge it with the first single from their album "Crush". "It's my life" was #1 in Austria, Flemish Begium, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland. After acting opposite him in the "U-571" film, Jon Bon Jovi handpicked actor Will Estes to be the protagonist of the music video. vx2u5uUu3DE

    125. "Oops...I did it again" Britney Spears (1 week) Reached #1: 19 May 2000 UK Chart peak: #1 The title track of Britney's second album stretched her run of sucessive #1 hits to five, a chain that was still far from being broken. It also topped the charts in the UK, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The male voice in the infamous Titanic-inspired dialogue belongs to none other than the writer/producer Max Martin. CduA0TULnow

    124. "Join me in death" H.I.M. (4 weeks) Reached #1: 21 April 2000 Finnish rock band H.I.M. (His Infernal Majesty) became huge in Continental Europe with this sumptuous track that topped chart not only in their native Finland (where is the 15th biggest selling single of all time), Germany and Yugoslavia. It was also #1 on my year-end chart, and one of the two longest-running #1s of the year. HIM would only start to hit the UK charts a couple of years later, so "Join Me In Death" never charted there, but did chart at #53 in the UK! 1V4AscLidWg

    123. "Be with you" Enrique Iglesias (3 non-consecutive weeks) Reached #1: 7 April 2000, 26 May 2000 This went on to became one of the biggest hits of the year in my chart. After two weeks on top, it kept on having such success that it claimed a third week at #1 five weeks later. It would be #2 on my year-end chart. Sadly and although it was a worldwide hit, even hitting #1 in the US, "Be With You" was never released in the UK because the previous single "Rhythm Divine" missed the UK top 40. It would take Enrique two more years so it could emulate in Brittania the success he was enjoying anywhere else. YT9wVDxnyV0

    122. "American Pie" Madonna (2 weeks) Reached #1: 24 March 2000 UK Chart peak: #1 Madonna saw her coming back to the top of my chart with her controversial abridged cover from Don McLean's epic classic "American Pie". The track also hit #1 in the UK, Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany (her first #1 there since the 80's!), Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. It was featured in both her "Music" album and in the soundtrack to her film "The Next Best Thing". Her co-star Rupert Everett provided the back-up vocals. 8BIAi3Oo7To

    121. "Unforgivable sinner" Lene Marlin (2 weeks) Reached #1: 10 March 2000 UK Chart peak: #13 Lene Marlin's "Playing My Game" was the album of the year 2000, as I was the proud owner of a copy and I'd played it to death. In result, Lene Marlin became the first artist ever to have three songs in my top 10 in the same week, with "Where I'm Headed", "Sitting Down Here" and "Unforgivable Sinner" sitting at #5, #6 and #7 that week. But out of those three, "Unforgivable Sinner" was the only one who made it all the way to #1. It was also #1 in her native Norway. Lene recently spoke publicly about her problems dealing with her sudden success and its aftermath, that even led her to some suicide attempts. Ohu231K-jHs

    120. "Life's too short" Lightning Seeds (2 weeks) Reached #1: 24 February 2000 UK Chart peak: #27 Believe it or not this was Lightning Seeds' only entry ever in my chart (not even the seminal "Three Lions" did that!) So it's even more remarkable that this one made all the way to #1, but for me it still sounds amazing and it's a shame that it never made it to the UK top 20, at the very least. 3Ep2XyiqXS4

    119. "Show me the meaning of being lonely" Backstreet Boys (1 week) Reached #1: 17 February 2000 UK Chart peak: #3 Third consecutive #1 (the sixth overall and their last date) of the Backstreet Boys. The song was also #1 in Canada and Romania. The music video shows the boys reflecting on the subject of death: Brian Littrell's open heart surgery, A.J.'s high school girlfriend who died on a car crash, Kevin's deceased father, Howie's sister who died of lupus and the deceased Swedish producer Denniz Pop. aBt8fN7mJNg

    118. "Born to make you happy" Britney Spears (3 weeks) Reached #1: 28 January 2000 UK Chart peak: #1 At the time Britney Spears was totally unbeatable in my chart and therefore this single became her fourth consecutive direct #1, and still remains one of my favourites from he repertoir. Whereas "Born to make you happy" was released as the fourth single of her debut album in Europe, but in the US, the more American-sounding "From the bottom of my broken heart" was released instead. It was later revealed that Gregory Dark the director of (also starring the same guy who plays her love interest in "Born to make you happy") used to direct porn flicks. Yy5cKX4jBkQ

    117. "It's only rock 'n' roll (But I like it)" Children's Promise (2 weeks) Reached #1: 7 January 2000 UK Chart peak: #19 In a way, it makes sense that the first #1 of the new millenium in my chart was a record with such a superstar line-up. This cover of the 1974 Rolling Stones hit was one of the several records aiming for the chance of being the Christmas UK#1 of 1999, hoping to recapture the success of 1997 "Perfect Day" ensemble record. Sadly it could only limp at #19 but it made it to the top of my chart. XvlY9fEcjiA

    116. "That I Would Be Good" Alanis Morissette (2 weeks) Reached #1: 24 December 1999 Out of many candidates to last #1 of the millenium in my chart, it was a bit surprising that the one that came on top was Alanis Morissette's acoustic rendition of this track from the 1998 "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie", who was released as the leading single from her MTV Unplugged. Its simplicity and its introspective lyrics seemed to fittingly suit my mood for the turn of the millenium. At the time, the track was also heavily featured in the soundtrack to Brazilian soap-opera "Suave Veneno". ffdAz2tf-J4

    115. "That's The Way It Is" Céline Dion (2 non consecutive weeks) Reached #1: 17 December 1999, 21 January 2000 UK Chart Peak: #12 Madame Dion's eighth (and last to date) #1 in my chart was the front single for her best of album "All The Way...A Decade Of Song". After entering the chart at #1 at December 1999, it took advantage of the early-year chart quietness to claim another week at #1 in January 2000, guaranteeing that Celine Dion a #1 in my chart every year from 1995 and 2000. Nobody else has ever topped my chart in six consecutive years again. T6wbugWrfLU

    114. "Waiting For Tonight" Jennifer Lopez (3 weeks) Reached #1: 26 November 1999 UK Chart Peak: #5 And here's for the third consecutive #1 in my chart that peaked at #5 in the UK chart. "Waiting For Tonight" remains one of La Lopez's best singles and further cemented her career as a bonafide popstar. The song was originally recorded by US female group 3rd Party in 1997. Due to its Millenium-themed video, it was one of the most played songs at 1999/2000 New Year parties all over the world. _66jPJVS4JE

    113. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" Britney Spears (2 weeks) Reached #1: 12 November 1999 UK Chart Peak: #5 Third #1 in a row for Britney, this was also a chart-topper in Wallonie Belgium. by Sugar Coma hit #9 in my chart in 2002. Although the version known as the "Stop! Remix" is the most famous, due to its use on both the music video and the soundtrack of the "Drive Me Crazy" film starring Melissa Joan Hart and Adrian Grenier, I always though that the album version was MUCH better. zPTFNh4t27c

    111. "Blue (Da ba dee)" Eiffel 65 (2 weeks) Reached #1: 22 October 1999 UK Chart Peak: #1 Christina Aguilera's debut single remains her biggest to date, selling over 7 million copies and topping the charts in the UK, the US, Austria, Flemish Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Norway and Spain. At the time, it circulated a story that when Aguilera went to her high school prom, everyone stopped dancing when the song was played because the other kids were jealous of her achievements and her budding superstar career. kIDWgqDBNXA

    110. "Blue (Da ba dee)" Eiffel 65 (1 week) Reached #1: 15 October 1999 UK Chart Peak: #1 Yet another one quintessential hit of 1999, the debut single by Italian trio Eiffel 65 was #1 in the UK, Austria, Australia, Flemish Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. Although Rolling Stone magazinge ranked it #14 in the 20 Most Annoying Songs list, it received a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2001. Eiffel 65 had two more hits in my chart: "Move Your Body" (#3) and "Too Much Of Heaven" (#12) 68ugkg9RePc

    109. "Timor 1999" Luís Represas (4 week) Reached #1: 17 September 1999 Veteran Portuguese folk-rock band Trovante reunited in June 1999 for a comeback concert after they called it quits in 1991, by request of none other than the President of Portugal Jorge Sampaio. While the album of that concert was riding high in the album charts, the people from Timor, a former Portuguese colony who was forcibly annexated by Indonesia in 1975, was cruelly being persecuted and attacked by Indonesian forces following the a referendum for independence, where the yes won overwhelmingly. Those attacks raised a wave of solidarity and massive mobilization in Portuguese society like it was rarely seen since the 1970s and raised awareness around the world to the brutality that Timor endured over the years, which led to UN intervention and its full independence in 2002. Among all the charity actions that were held in Portugal at the time for that cause, was the re-release of Trovante's 1990 track. Although more focused in their solo projects, the members Trovante have since got together occasionally a few more times. lirWxYAe3oQ

    108. "Perfect moment" Martine McCutcheon (1 week) Reached #1: 10 September 1999 UK Chart Peak: #1 Just like Robert Miles's "One & One", "Perfect Moment" was first recorded by Polish singer Edyta Gorniak for her 1997 English-language album. However it was the 1999 version by Martine McCutcheon, fresh out of leaving Eastenders, that became the definite one. Having entered my chart as early as July, it floated around the top 10 until it finally hit #1, due to my consant replays of NOW 43. jG16jv-itYw

    107. "Mambo n.º 5 (A little bit of...)" Lou Bega (1 week) Reached #1: 3 September 1999 UK Chart Peak: #1 Yet another obvious #1 in my chart, it was one of the biggest worldwide hits of the year, topping the charts all over Europe and hitting #3 in the USA. A one-hit wonder in the UK, Lou Bega managed to score three more top 40 hits in my chart, the last one in 2001 with his cover of "Just A Gigolo". CNlbPFHtnGg

    106. "King of my castle" Wamdue Project (1 week) Reached #1: 27 August 1999 UK Chart Peak: #1 Wamdue Project was the alias of US producer Chris Brann. With vocals by Gaelle Adisson, "King Of My Castle" was a downtempo sing when it was first released in 1997. It became a worldwide club hit in its 1999 re-release headlined by a dance remix by British house producer Roy Malone and a music video using images from the 1995 anime film Ghost In The Shell 2. lbQCf8F1JsE

    105. "Summer son" Texas (3 weeks) Reached #1: 6 August 1999 UK Chart Peak: #5 The stand-out track from their album "The Hush", "Summer Son" hit #1 in my chart, thus turning Texas into the first Scottish act to do so. Although the band had four top 10 hits in my chart prior to this, they would only hit the top 10 just once more with 2000's "In Demand" (#6). 7uIFISklvXY
