Though looking at the download chart recently U2 and Julie-Anne Dineen would have struggled to get to no 1 without a physical release...Just a couple of weeks ago, the entire top three consisted of downloads only and this year so far two chart toppers have been on download only releases. And we have seen with several songs recently that getting a physical release fails to make much of an impact on the charts. In some cases it even falls on physical release.
Well obviously people went out and made a special effort to buy 'Do You Believe' on CD as it was the only way to buy it. As for U2, I really can't quite put my finger on why it sold so much on CD and failed to be a download hit, but there are exceptions to every rule I suppose.

Cool :) Do you know if the physical CD is available in the shops in Ireland?
Great for Gaga too :w00t:
Yes it is. All CD singles are released in Ireland the same week as the UK, give or take two days. But to be honest, physical singles don't count for much on the Irish charts any more and a lot of shops don't even bother with CD singles.

There is a big push to keep it at no 1 for Mothers Day which is next Sunday. From what Larry Gogan said on the chart show this afternoon it sounds like most of the physical singles were available around Limerick and that further copies are now being distributed to the rest of the country.
Oh no!!
When is the chart show on by the way?

Julie-Ann who??? I want Poker Face back on top!! There's a chance it could go back to No.1 when it has a physical release in April, but I'd say it'll be too late! Much in the style of Leanne Moore last Summer, I expect 'Do You Believe' to crash dramatically next week. And I can't believe Jason Mraz has only now reached the top ten - in March! I first heard this last September! And I can't believe how it has struggled in the Irish and UK charts so much when it has been a huge hit everywhere else, although I think it may be due to the fact that it's kind of a summer song and was released at the wrong time of year.
Not much else going on in the charts this week, and no big new entries expected to come in next week either, although we can expect to see Halo surge towards the top 5 and Beautiful challenge for a top ten space too.

Hooray for GaGa! 2nd week at No.1!! It'll be a two horse race between her and Flo Rida next week, although I think GaGa will sneak a third week at No.1. Thank god Taylor Swift is in the top ten finally, about time! And I'm a bit surprised that The Saturdays managed to get to No.17 to be honest. Although they are currently on course to score their first ever Irish top ten hit. I'm sure they are ecstatic... :D

Yes!! Poker Face finally No.1!! I love it so much, my favourite song of the year so far. Dare I say it might be a bit better than Just Dance? I don't know if Poker Face will be able to hold on though, it's weeks away from a physical release yet and it's gonna face a strong challenge from Flo Rida what with the video now being released.

'Love Etc.' is at No.42 this week
'Yes' is the highest new entry at No.34 on the album chart this week.
Oh yes, and I forgot to add a notable absense from the singles chart this week. 'Don't Upset the Rhythm' by The Noisettes didn't even crack the top 50!
