Dido is really overrated. She'd probably still be cluttering up bargain bins if Eminem hadn't sampled Thank You. Her music is boring and her voice is just terrible. It just goes right through me. I really can't see what is supposed to be so special about her. I think Robbie Williams is vastly overrated too. His voice is weak and he seems to be able to release any old rubbish and he gets a hit.. If he released a single consisting of him armpit farting his fans would say it was subversive/post modern/not taking himself too seriously etc. I reckon his popularity is mainly people buying into his joker/class clown personality more than his actual songs, which for the most part are fairly standard pub singer stuff. That said I prefer him doing that than when he was a wannabe Ratpack singer or when he's doing a messy novelty record like Rudebox. Luckily he seems to be a lot less popular nowadays than he once was.

'Overrated' generally means "I didn't like it even though a lot of people did". Nontheless, there are quite a few acts I don't really get the appeal of. I've personally always thought Elvis was overrated. Yes, he could sing well and looked the part, and yes he was so popular it would have been impossible for him not to have an effect on the entire music industry, but he was just as much a manufactured puppet as anyone else who's come after him. If we're just speaking about today's acts- Lily Allen is one example. She doesn't get much criticism for her, frankly, awful voice, and while her songs aren't bad as cheesy pop songs go, they're not amazing works of a genius like some people are making out. Plus her whole "I'm a chav from da streets" image is stupid. Doesn't everyone know she's a spoilt little Veruca Salt by now? Justin Timberlake- weak voice, has Timbaland and the Neptunes having more input in his music than he does, and yet he and certain sections of the media make out he's some sort of saviour of music. His 'tough/street' image is even more laughable than Lilly Allen's. The Feeling- they're just this year's Toploader. Irritating, naff pop music for dull middle aged men. The Kooks- I am so sick of hearing Luke Pritchard's smug, whiney voice on the radio singing yet another boring song about how the latest gold digger has dumped him because she's realised that despite him being in a band and having a rich family he's still a weedy inbred mop-haired little runt. You could go on forever.

That chart is pretty awful as well. Of all those new entries in the top 10 Sarah Whatmore's was probably the least rubbish- and When I Lost You wasn't much of a song. Sounded like a Kylie cast off. I agree that Automatic was much better though. I remember hearing Hampenberg- Duck Toy on the chart show. One of the most rubbish records ever. It was just someone squeezing a squeaky duck toy over a dance beat. I also seem to remember Scott Mills saying the album was called Duck Off.

I can't see Corinne Bailey Rae doing much better than she did first time round with that song (got to #34) , considering her last single Trouble Sleeping did even worse (to go #40). In fact I can't see any of these songs doing particularly well.

I agree with the general opinion on here. All download sales should be included. If it sells enough to make the chart, it should make the chart. Physical sales are still the dominant force by the look of it anyway. Remember only one song has got to number one on downloads alone- but the combined chart is a more acurate reflection of what people are buying and its good to see songs climbing. I also agree that the "52 weeks" and "once deleted it is not allowed to chart" rules are stupid. If people are still wanting to buy it that should be reflected. Including airplay would be daft as well. Airplay can be, and is, bought. You only have to look at how downright stupid the Hot 100 looked a few years ago when it was based almost entirely on airplay.

Weezer had their first top ten single in both the UK and the US last year, so I'd hardly say they should be included in the gone/flopped since list.

My pick of the bunch is: 3 3 Round Round SUGABABES 5 4 Addictive TRUTH HURTS feat RAKIM 7 - It's Written In The Stars PAUL WELLER 13 - The Theme JURGEN VRIES 18 18 A Thousand Miles VANESSA CARLTON 25 - Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground WHITE STRIPES 30 28 Girl All The Bad Guys Want BOWLING FOR SOUP 34 - Are You In INCUBUS 39 31 In My Place COLDPLAY 59 50 Get Over You / Move This Mountain SOPHIE ELLIS BEXTOR I agree with russt68, Atomic Kitten's cover of The Tide Is High is one of the worst cover versions ever recorded. So much awful stuff in that chart though. Blazin' Squad, Darius, Gareth Gates, Nikelback, Scooter, Mad'House, Hear'Say, H & Claire, Toploader...

Ah yes, I remember that Rihanna. She was a British girl with very frizzy hair  Oh Baby wasn't a bad track. That chart looks pretty dire in general, but some good stuff here and there.
  9. I was only 5 when the '80s had finished, so I can't really comment on that. But from what I've seen of it I wouldn't want to have lived in that time. I don't think the Reagon/Thatcher/Stock Aitken Waterman/constant dull synth-pop bands years are anywhere near as rosy as people are making out now. The attitude seems to have been very "get rich quick" and pretentious. Obviously I don't know if that is true, but I'm kind of glad I wasn't really around to see it. It's just the '80s turn to get the rose tinted spectacles treatment at the moment. In the '90s everyone seemed to loathe the '80s and love the '70s. Now all of a sudden the '80s is the golden age. I wouldn't be surprised if the '90s gets looked back as the golden age next decade.
  10. I like the Lazy B song. So what if the bloke behind it used to be in Aqua? And that Romeo & Juliet film was awful.
  11. I like it a lot better than Supermassive Black Hole anyway. That was hugely overrated IMHO. To be honest I think this current phase of Muse is a bit overrated as well. I prefer them during the Origin Of Symmetry/Absolution eras myself.
  12. Another list/poll by Q? They do one of these every issue don't they? Though to be honest any kind of Best Ever list is pointless. You ask 10 different people to list their 10 favourite songs of all time and you're likely to get 10 completley different lists in a completly different order. How anyone thinks something can be the ''Best Ever Song'' is a bit silly as it's all subjective anyway. All these lists reveal are generalisations. Which is probably why you get the same songs/acts in every single time. It's likely this list will be forgotten about within 2 minutes just like all the other lists.

I thought it was obvious that it was a re-recording of an old song. Sergio Mendes didn't do it originally either. The person who recorded it first was Jorge Ben Jor, the bloke who wrote it.
  14. Definitely Anna. Still my favourite housemate to this day. Aisleyne was great as well, and the others were all OK in their own way I guess, apart from Steph.

Pete. He's the person I liked the most out of that list anyway.

Cameron. But AnTHony was almost as awful.
  17. No way. Why should we have to change our laws to suit people who choose to come into this country? The way I see it, if you choose to come into a country to live you have to abide by that country's rules. If these people want Sharia law, why did they leave their countries which have Sharia law in the first place? Don't come into a Western country and enjoy all the benefits and freedoms it can offer that may not be available in a comparitivley poor country with strict religious law, and then say it is "spiritually bankrupt". You can't have your cake and eat it. As for British born Muslims, surely the same case appiles. They know this country has it's own rules, based on Christianity. The country is 'officially' Christian, but church and state are more or less seperate, which I think is a good thing. I'm sorry if this all sounds harsh, but if they want to live somewhere with Sharia law, they can always emigrate there permanently. A similar issue in reverse is when Western people go on holiday in Middle Eastern countries and sometimes end up getting the death penalty or around 40 years in prison- and these are actually tough prisons- for something minor or something which isn't even a crime in their home country. (Drug taking, etc). While I don't agree with such strict punishments for such offences, if you go to one of those countries you have to make sure you keep within that country's laws. It's only common sense.

A lot of sore losers and sour grapes going on because Pete has won, but it's the same every year whoever wins. Pete deserved it, he was very funny, and seems a very nice guy as well, Tourettes or no Tourettes. Glyn was an annoying teenage brat, and all the Welsh nationalist nonsense in his interview did my head in. Glad he didn't win. Well done to Aisleyne for being the final girl and getting into the top three.

I don't see how that water battle was 'over', especially as Horse Face was saying in the Diary Room and before she went in about telling Ais what she thought of her... and as it turned out when it came to the crunch she just did what she did before. Act nice as pie to the person's face and slag them off and lie about them behind their back. Aisleyne has been the only one to consistently say what she thought of a particular person to their face rather than just behind their back, so I don't get where all this "two-faced" business comes from. If anything I think she's one of the least two-faced in there. As for that battle 'not being hers', she wasn't the only one annoyed with Grace because of the water throwing incident- Richard and Lea were too- but they waited until Grace had galloped out of the house to say they disapproved of what she did. Speaking of which, how is getting upset when you've been evicted and booed taking it badly? Especially compared to Grace chucking water in someone's face because she blamed anyone but herself for the fact the public evicted her. Or if we're talking about older people, what about Lea, who was a quivering unconsolable mess when it was announced she'd been evicted? In fact she degenerated into a quivering uncosolable mess whenever anyone said anything personal to her, and she's a lot older than Ais. I don't see how anyone can say Shahbaz, another person a lot older than Ais, took anything better either. This is someone who hid everyone's food because he was annoyed with them and threatened to commit suicide live on the show.... I agree she milks things like nominations and her blubbering is over the top and annoying, and yes she is probably trying to get the public on her side, but so is Pete with his dopey "I won't believe in heaven no more if I don't win" speech, and Glyn with his "I've groooooooooooooaarrrrrn uppp sooo muuuuchhh" speeches. They're all playing a game and are all in it to win it. I think, in comparison to most of the housemates this year, Aisleyne isn't too bad. I think you could find a lot more flaws in most of the others than you can with her.

As far as taking the mich out of Grace is concerned, I think Richard was the first to point out how much she looks like a horse, so credit to him for that. But his impression of her was rubbish. Nikki is the best at doing impressions I think. Her Bonnie one was good, as was her Aisleyne one yonks ago. Plus she did a good Glyn one if I remember rightly.
  21. That Fergie song is awful. I hope just because it's got London in the title it doesn't repeat it's success over here. I wonder if it did some people who don't follow music except when the charts are printed will look at the number one song and think it's by the Duchess Of York?

I think this one is the best one. Lowculture You have to scoll down a bit to the "Why Aisleyne Must Win" part though. Raises a lot of good points about Aisleyne I think. Plus there a lot of YouTube clips of her best bits there as well. Aisleyne certainly seems to have a lot of support now. I feel kind of good as someone who liked her from the start.
  23. ghostwriter posted a post in a topic in Television
Can anyone actually give any examples of her actually being 'manipulative'?
  24. Basically it's 'bubbling under' the Billboard Hot 100. So Heartland are technically number 101 in America, but will probably say they got to number one on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 as it sounds better.

Great programme. I'm glad it's getting another series.
