  1. Yeah, but this'll be the only chance Darius fans have to vote for him in one of these polls.
  2. I saw her presenting a special on Buffy The Vampire Slayer once when I was at college, and she was terrible! But her presenting has definitely improved since then. She's great at music-based presenting though. Kenickie were good, and I liked Don't Falter with Mint Royale.
  3. 1) Shakira- Whenever, Wherever (20 points) 2) Foo Fighters - All My Life 3) Pink- Just Like A Pill 4) Tenacious D- Tribute 5) Nelly & Kelly Rowland- Dilemma 6) Coldplay - In My Place 7) Sugababes- Freak Like Me 8) Vanessa Carlton- A Thousand Miles 9) Aaliyah- More Than A Woman 10) Pink- Get The Party Started 11) Liberty X- Just A Little 12) Girls Aloud – Sound Of The Underground 13) PPK- Resurrection 14) DJ Sammy – Heaven 15) Avril Lavigne – Complicated 16) Sugababes- Round Round 17) Holly Valance- Kiss Kiss 18) Eminem – Lose Yourself 19) Liam Lynch- United States Of Whatever 20) Red Hot Chilli Peppers - By The Way (1 point)
  4. Kym is gorgeous as well. Yes, she was the best singer in Hear'Say (though that wasn't hard). She is going to be around for longer in Corrie apparently.

Downloads are really starting to make a difference now! I remember when downloads were first included they didn't make much difference at all to the top ten (but did to the lower half of the top 40). Poor old Depeche Mode, eh? Still at least the Wacko Jacko re-releases aren't doing as well. I'm a Morrisey fan, but I'm glad You Have Killed Me didn't make number one- I think it's one of his weakest singles. Also, at the end of the day, the combined chart is much more accurate a reflection of what people are buying than the 'physicals only' one.
  6. Good results for the 2001 one I think. Really good top 20 and most of the worst songs are at numbers 41-50.
  7. Looking forward to the second album- loved the first one!

I love them. A surprise that they're supporting Robbie. The are quite different- the only time I'd have expected to see those two acts together would have been some kind of '90s nostalgia tour. But I thinkthey do have some similarities- both they and Robbie have a lot of humour in their lyrics.
  9. 1) Gorrilaz- Clint Eastwood (20 points) 2) Nelly Furtado- I'm Like A Bird 3) Outkast- Ms. Jackson 4) Strokes - Last Nite 5) Alicia Keys- Fallin' 6) City High- What Would You Do? 7) S Club 7 - Don’t Stop Movin’ 8) Wheatus- Teenage Dirtbag 9) Alien Ant Farm- Smooth Criminal 10) Texas - Inner Smile 11) Moulin Rouge (C.Ag, Pink, Lil Kim, Mya & Ms Elliott) - Lady Marmalade 12) Emma Bunton- What Took You So Long? 13) Basement Jaxx- Romeo 14) Linkin Park- In The End 15) Missy Elliot- Get UR Freak On 16) Mary J. Blige- Family Affair 17) Jakatta - American Dream 18) Eve feat. Gwen Stefani - Let Me Blow Ya Mind 19) Kylie Minogue - Can’t Get You Out Of My Head 20) Ian Van Dahl- Castles In The Sky (1 point)
  10. Good top ten and a very good top 3, especially considering how many $h!te songs were in the 2000 list.
  11. I'd like to see a symbol which says if a track got to number one on the download chart just like they have a symbol which says if it got to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Some songs that were huge hits topped the download chart but not the official singles chart, for example Gwen Stefani- What You Waiting For, Green Day- Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, Gorrilaz- Feel Good Inc, Coldplay-Speed Of Sound, Daniel Powter- Bad Day and Corinne Bailey Rae- Put Your Records On.

I really liked Crawling In The Dark, but The Reason is a dire song.
  13. I see no real harm in rock bands covering pop acts or vice versa. In can produce some interesting results. And most of the time it's just for a B-side anyway, so there's no real problem. Madonna's cover of American Pie was terrible though.
  14. 1) Coldplay- Yellow (20 points) 2) Spiller ft. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) (19 points) 3) Moloko - The Time Is Now (18 points) 4) Santana ft Rob Thomas - Smooth (17 points) 5) Delerium ft Sarah McLachlan - Silence (16 points) 6) Aaliyah- Try Again (15 points) 7) Eminem ft. Dido - Stan (14 points) 8) LeAnn Rimes - Can't Fight The Moonlight (13 points) 9) Samantha Mumba - Gotta Tell You (12 points) 10) Bloodhound Gang- The Bad Touch (11 points) 11) Len- Steal My Sunshine (10 points) 12) Moby- Porcelain (9 points) 13) Modjo- Lady (Hear Me Tonight) (8 points) 14) Darude- Sandstrom (7 points) 15) Artful Dodger- Movin' Too Fast (6 points) 16) Fragma- Toca's Miracle (5 points) 17) All Saints- Pure Shores (4 points) 18) S Club 7 - Never Had A Dream Come True (3 points) 19) Eminem- The Real Slim Shady (2 points) 20) Melanie C ft Lisa Lopes - Never Be The Same Again (1 point)
  15. I like the guitar riff in this, but not that keen on the song really compared to what they did before. Still this song has been doing well for them and has probably won them a lot of new fans.
  16. I like her a lot. She has a great voice, and I'll probably get the album.
  17. Looks like it's going to be a good album.
  18. Yeah, I agree pretty much with what Grimly Fiendish is saying. I'm impressed with Sharon Den Adel, Christina Scabbia and Tarja Teruenen's voices, the way they sing and their whole character really (probably not Tarja in that case though- she's a bit of a prima donna I think). Amy Lee has a good voice, and as I said I like her, but that's all she has really- a good voice. Kelly Clarkson has a good voice as well I think, and it's no surprise that some of her material sounds like Fallen-era Evanescence considering Ben Moody worked on her album. As for Hilary Duff- well she has an OK-ish voice I suppose. Great choice of American bands by the way!
  19. Got to agree with that. Those three wipe the floor with her vocally and in terms of charisma. I quite like Amy Lee herself though.

My favourites by them are Jack Names The Planets, Girl From Mars, Burn Baby Burn, Sometimes and Clones. Excellent tracks. The worst was probably Candy. Yuck. They are a good band. Shame about Charlotte leaving, although I really liked her solo stuff.
  21. I agree. Everybody's Fool was awful. Glad that one was their 'flop' single. Didn't make the top 20 while all the rest made top ten. I think Evanescence are alright. I loved them at the time, and I'll give them a chance to see what they come up with. They're nowhere near as good as the likes of Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation, and Evanescence's sound is VERY American. But I quite like them.
  22. This has been the easiest one to do so far. It was easy to eliminate most of those! Coffee & TV is my favourite song by a LONG way. Anyway, I somehow got to 20 songs I quite liked, but 1999 was a really $h!te year for music IMHO. 1) Blur- Coffee & TV (20 points) 2) Basement Jaxx-Red Alert (19 points) 3) New Radicals- You Get What You Give (18 points) 4) Supergrass- Pumping On Your Stereo (17 points) 5) TLC- Unpretty (16 points) 6) Travis- Why Does It Always Rain On Me (15 points) 7) Britney Spears- Baby One More Time (14 points) 8) Semisonic- Secret Smile (13 points) 9) Chemical Brothers- Hey Boy Hey Girl (12 points) 10) Macy Gray- I Try (11 points) 11) Christina Aguilera- Genie In A Bottle (10 points) 12) Foo Fighters- Learn To Fly (9 points) 13) Moloko- Sing It Back (8 points) 14) Ricky Martin- Livin' La Vida Loca (7 points) 15) Fatboy Slim- Praise You (6 points) 16) Corrs- Runaway (Remix) (5 points) 17) Shanks & Bigfoot- Sweet Like Chocolate (4 points) 18) Jennifer Lopez- If You Had My Love (3 points) 19) Eminem- My Name Is (2 points) 20) Madonna- Beautiful Stranger (1 point)
  23. There's that expression 'Sleeperbloke'- after Sleeper and their attractive singler Louise Wener getting all the attention and the lads being pretty much ignored. It is true though if you get a reasonably attractive female singer then the band pretty much becomes to be seen as just her and backing musicians. It was true with Catatonia- to this day I'm surprised at how many people think Catatonia was just a pseudonym for Cerys Matthews. It's true with Texas as well- most of their album covers and videos just feature Sharleen Spiteri.
  24. You always get retro acts in the album chart though.

They didn't sing on the record either. It was their producer who did. The bloke who originally recorded and wrote that song (or the 'Mbube' version of it anyway) was this African guy called Solomon Linda in 1939. Despite the many cover versions the total royalties he got for that song were a few shillings as a wage. He died in poverty of renal failure in 1962. The first version to have The Lion Sleeps Tonight lyrics added to it was The Tokens US Number 1 from 1961, which reached number 11 over here.
