  1. Downloads have definitely changed the singles chart for the better.
  2. While choosing someone who hasn't released a single in two years is scraping the barrell a bit, I agree. She's a much better choice than any of those.
  3. Yes, and that version got to number one in the US. Oddly enough although that version was released as part of the film, that isn't the same as the version Aladdin and the princess actually sing in the film. It's a bit like in Beauty and The Beast where Angela Lansbury as the talking teapot sings the song in the film, but the single that was released as part of the film was a duet version by Peabo Bryson and Celine Dion- which, believe it or not was her first ever song to chart in the UK. Anyway, this version with Jordan and Peter Andre is awful. He's not a good singer, but she sounds terrible. I'm not exaggerrating at all when I say that is one of the worst examples of singing I have ever heard. I can see a lot of people wanting to duet with her now though. No matter how bad they are they'll sound good compared to her.

Snow Patrol. Justin Timberlake is a twerp.
  5. Interesting article. But if the veil is more often worn out of choice rather than to do with religion or culture, then why are people scared of being accused of racism for being against it? There are practical reasons for not wearing the veil, such as it being difficult to identify these women- an example I always heard was one with a bus pass or passport who had a picture identifying her but still wore the veil- how is anyone supposed to know it's really her? The other is it is difficult to hear someone speak when they are muffled by a veil. That said, I think this idea of a nationwide ban is ridiculous. It's like that idea to ban hooded tops. It's stupid, and ultimately useless- is banning the hoodie, or the veil for that matter, going to solve or achieve anything?
  6. How many stupid rules are the OCC going to come up with?

That's a good point, though I suppose the comfort we can take is that I doubt they would be able to do that if they were living in this country. Madonna will have to "re-adopt" and go through the UK adoption process as well to make sure she and Guy are suitable. I won't pretend to know how UK adoption regulations work, but if Jonathan King did a similar thing to Madonna, his sex offenence conviction would mean he would have to give the child back. Of course those living in other countries like Gary Glitter may get away with it where the laws for adoption may not be as rigourous. I said in a previous post I am not happy with the way Madonna seems to have just bypassed all the regulations because of her money and fame. But, the whole media circus he will be exposed to notwithstanding, I don't think her adopting that child will cause any serious harm to him, and it may even have benefits.

But that father put his son in an orphnage to be raised as he didn't think he'd be able to do it himself. So while the kid may not technically be an orphan, he was being raised in an orphanage. Whatever the father's motives for doing so, or Madonna's for adopting him- which, while we can speculate and make educated guesses, are only known to the individuals themselves- the bottom line is that kid will probably get to do and be part of things he would never have had chance to under normal circumstances. I just don't see how he is supposed to be losing out.
  9. I don't see why everyone else has to be inconvinienced because the Olympic date clashes with Ramdan. As has been said, the Olympics takes a lot of preperation, both from those who organise it and the athletes themselves. I can see why it may cause Muslim competitors problems, but I don't see why the rest of the world should have to wait a month. If they can't compete for whatever reason, then they can't compete. Of course, this is asuming that many Muslims actually see a problem with this clash, which they may not.

To be honest, if the choice is between risking starvation and poverty in an orphanage in a very poor country or being in the media glare but living with one of the most rich and famous people in the world and getting the best material possesions, health care and possibly education money can buy, then I think that kid has got a pretty good deal. As they say, it's probably preferable to be unhappy in the back of a limosine than to be unhappy in the back of a truck. I agree with Kelly that it is a bit unpleasent that Madonna has bypassed the usual legal testings anyone else would have to go through if they wanted to adopt though.
  11. I was talking about this with a friend of mine a while ago, and he said if the Americans had any real need to kill Osama Bin Laden they would have done it by now. I agree with him.

59 (-) Cardigans - I Need Some Fine Wine And You, You Need To Be Nicer That one was by far my favourite at the time. Quite a good chart actually. Pleased that that dire Robbie Williams song was kept of number one. I didn't like Push The Button at first, but I like it a lot more now.
  15. Well, it is her show... and if they don't like the fact they have to sing with her, then they don't have to go on it... I've enjoyed a lot of those performances. She is a good singer. To be honest that's probably what she should stick to instead of this one-woman attempt at doing The Friday Night Project. The best was definitely the Nelly Furtado one. Great performance from both of them covering a very good song. The Orson one wasn't bad either. The worst has to be the Amy Winehouse one, but that was funny in a car crash way. The Feeling one was pretty bad as well. Or maybe it was just their c**p song.

Lots of great number ones in that year. I went for The Verve, but I won't mind if No Doubt win by a landslide. Don't Speak is a great tune. My top 5 number ones of 1997 are: 1) The Verve- The Drugs Don't Work 2) No Doubt- Don't Speak 3) Olive- You're Not Alone 4) Chemical Brothers- Block Rockin' Beats 5) White Town- Your Woman

Some truly terrible records there. Worstlife and Diarrhea Carrey covering an already terrible Phil Collins song and that awful Azzido Da Bass thing being, against some stiff competition, the worst. That U2 song is one of the worst they've done as well. 72 - The Game NICHOLA HOLT That was that skinhead girl from the first Big Brother wasn't it? Some good stuff there though, especially Delerium- Silence. In general though I think things have improved a lot since those days.
  18. Pretty good. I prefered 'Sheila' myself, both the song and the video. I reckon 'If You Got The Money' has a better chance of being a breakthrough hit though.

I agree. The only reason I can see him being popular is him bringing out a sort of mothering instinct with some people. "Awww, bless him he's got a stutter!" combined with him having the same sort of fanbase as Westlife or Daniel O'Donnel. His voice is weak and none of his songs to date have been much good. Maybe his newer stuff will be a little less bland, but I can't see this comeback being successful. Thankfully.

I hope it's a career-killing flop it deserves to be, but I reckon sadly it'll go top 5.

Looks like Amy Winehouse could have a decent sized hit with Rehab. That's good news. I wish all downloads were included in the main chart though. For example it would be great to have The Goo Goo Dolls- Iris charting again! Anyone know why that's selling quite well on downloads at the moment?

    Razorlight
  23. Amy's far better than Lily though, as at least Amy has a strong singing voice to go with all that mouthing off. I like this new single a lot. I hope it's a decent sized hit for her.
  24. And that's not even her highest charting single! That was 'Thank You' which made number 2 in 2004, stopped by Peter Andre. That's a case in point actually. All getting to number one means is that single sold the most copies in that particular week. Some weeks you don't have to sell much to be number one, some weeks you have to sell loads. It doesn't, and never has, meant that the song is great because it gets to number one. Some songs are remembered as classics that didn't do well in the charts (e.g James Brown- 'Papa's Got A Brand New Bag' never got higher than #25) and quite a few number ones have been forgotten. Plus, often even if an artist gets to number one they may be remembered for another hit that charted lower.
  25. I hate fur being used for glamour purposes. It's just vanity and an example of someone being greedy as usually fur coats are expensive and used by people as a sort of status symbol that have money to spend on such a luxury item. Fur looks much better on the animals it came from. I am not a vegetarian though, as has been said meat is the main source of protein. You might say it's hypocritical to be against fur but to eat meat (and to wear leather shoes- but I think most leather is a by-product of beef anyway). Personally I think vegetarians who eat fish are more hypocritical. How is it OK to eat fish and not OK to eat any other sort of meat? My best friend is a vegetarian (who doesn't eat fish) though.
