Impressed with that opening for 'Wuthering Heights' as there was some online backlash from the trailer alone, and I'm happy for Emerald as hopefully she'll come up with another 'Saltburn' in the future (have heard great things about 'Promising Young Woman' too but haven't seen it), but it didn't live up to my expectations. Will be interested to see what the holds are like because I don't think word of mouth is going to be great... This coming weekend is SO packed with new releases that I view as essential (I hope you've already caught some at Unlimited screenings @Josh! ) - 'The Moment', 'The Secret Agent', 'Wasteman' and 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You' all interest me, and there are a couple more releases that haven't caught my attention personally. Maybe a crowded week is why 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You' doesn't seem to be showing at any Cineworld in London, nor is it playing at my local Vue, which really I think is a travesty considering it picked up a Golden Globe win, is up for an Oscar in a major category etc. These cinemas have all shown the trailer too which is the frustrating thing. ( @LewisGT do you have any intel on whether it's planned to expand more widely the week after, or are the locations this weekend going to be the best of what we're getting? )
  2. I think heat 1 is still the weakest for me so far, the three songs that didn't progress aren't anything that I feel the need to go back and listen to again, then you had Greczula and Jacqline which for me, whilst both decent enough, both suffer from not being as good as their debut entries. A*Teens were by far and away the best. Heat 2, "My System" is obviously brilliant and what I think I'm going to be rooting for to win the contest (though I've recently had a horrible thought that we might get a 2014 situation, where Felicia ends up as the Ace Wilder of this year), and I'm happy to go back to both "Oxygen" and "Glitter" (which is such a step up on Arwin's entry from last year, very annoyed it couldn't get an AC spot). Brandsta City Slackers deliver a fun performance, but I don't think I'll be seeking out the studio version often. As for the latest heat, I think Korslagda were the worst so far, but I liked everything else. I've had "Selfish" on repeat, so glad that got to AC despite zero budget being put into the staging, would love if it somehow got through to the final. Medina's song is my least favourite from them so far, but still a bop. Out of the repeat entrants, Saga feels the most consistent so far in that it's hard to pick a preference out of her entries. Patrik Jean was much better than his 2021 entry and it was just funny to watch the early reviewers compare it to "The Code" and "Wasted Love", then it got released and those of us with better judgement realised it was more....."Dizzy"

Excited to see how high "Wuthering Heights" can go over Valentine's weekend! Hopefully big enough to overcome the previews-inflated 'Goat'. It feels like the hype is there, but I don't know if that's just my circle and it being one of my personal most anticipated movies of the year.
  4. I found the first one to be extremely overrated (in terms of how much of a box office smash it was at least), and was disappointed not to enjoy it more as I've been a fan of the games for a couple of decades. But I'm hopeful that the presence of Yoshi will mean this one is better (Yoshi and the many colour variations is always one of my top choices during Mario Kart)

-- I'm pleased to see 'Hamnet' get a week at #1 - not seeing it until this weekend and I'm unsure which side I'll fall on as it seems quite divisive with people split on whether it's stunning or a complete bore, but I always like to see an Awards movie doing well. Surprised it's turned into a bigger hit than 'Marty Supreme' which I thought might have more general appeal as well as starring the biggest movie star of the moment. I've booked to see 'Twinless' tomorrow, which I see isn't on the list of openings, possibly too small of a release, not sure if it will expand in a week or two? Only one Cineworld in London appears to have screenings, and I couldn't find mention of it on the websites for Vue, Odeon, Picturehouse, Curzon, Everyman - I did a lot of searching But I've managed to find an independent with screenings. Feel like I've been anticipating it for about a year (since a certain picture of Dylan O'Brien in the movie surfaced)

Very impressed with the 'Hamnet' opening, I think the highest limit of my expectations would've been around the £2m mark. Slightly related to the secret screenings, but does anyone have any idea how Cineworld's "Unlimited" card and Odeon's "Limitless" card count towards the box office, if at all? Do they count as much as a standard adult admission, or for a lower amount (say £5 for every Unlimited or Limitless member who attends), or not at all? Because I think these secret screenings are mostly exclusives for Unlimited and Limitless members, aren't they? Or maybe I'm a bit confused and both things exist, with secret screenings being separate to 'Unlimited screenings' that Cineworld run but you still know what movie you're booking for. I wouldn't expect 'Rental Family' to make the top 5 regardless, based on the top 5 last week all doing at least £1m+. I don't think it's had enough promotion and it's not ended up being an awards buzz movie.

Some delightful results over the past couple of weekends. Firstly, The Housemaid being a big fat HIT. I bet Sydney is going to be pushing hard for The Housemaid 2 to be made asap (I understand that there are two follow-up books for source material, that I think her character is in) Secondly, Marty Supreme beating Anaconda even during the initial limited release weekend, and then how much it's smashed when expanding. Word of mouth is extremely strong and I think Timothee is going to sweep awards season so it should keep ticking along nicely.

I've been following along earlier and more closely this year. Great to see 'Wicked: For Good' make the shortlists in technical categories, might not be as dead as thought from it missing a couple of major categories at precursors (Cynthia not in at Critics Choice, not in at Motion Picture - Comedy/Musical at the Globes) What I'm hearing is that the supporting categories are pretty open this year, but Timothee looks like a safe bet for his first Oscar in Best Actor, and Jessie Buckley has had Best Actress sewn up for a while for 'Hamnet' ( @Tafty to confirm)

Not 'Ella McCay' missing the top 15 - a bad time for movies where the title is a woman's name (I guess that can also apply to 'Eleanor the Great', but that one isn't a surprise to me as it seems to be a very small movie/release considering it's directed by Scarlett Johansson) Based on the showing I went to, the answer is underage kids! It's rated 15 but when I went on Sunday evening, there were two separate family groups that included kids/teens that were clearly under 15. At first I wondered if they'd wandered into the wrong screen by mistake (not sure about anyone else, but from my experience that seems surprisingly common)

I thought it was normally a December show, though having just checked, I see that it was a split-season affair last year and slightly earlier in the year. This is one of my favourite Netflix shows, excited to have it back.

I think this is the worst opening I've ever seen for a movie that I saw the trailer for SO much. I swear I saw it before everything I went to see for about 3 months. I know I'm just one person and maybe trailers vary across the country/cinema chains, and I don't go and see everything, but compare it to say 'Eternity' this week, I didn't see a trailer for that once yet the opening weekend is 7x better. Hope that Sydney Sweeney doesn't cause 'The Housemaid' to bomb at the end of this month too.
  13. Most excited by the look of the opening heat based on names - Jacqline and A*Teens both with songs written by Dino/Jimmy Jansson/Cazzi/G:son Plus Greczula I really enjoyed this year, and there's a Laurell Barker co-write in the heat. Smash Into Pieces appear to be top of the initial odds, but I don't see it unless they've changed things up a bit (though I didn't expect the lazy re-write to manage another 3rd for them in 2024). My money would be on Greczula to come through with the "act who gets a good result on debut, then comes back the following year and wins" formula, but maybe we're in for another KAJ and the winning song is with the act we'd least expect.

'Christy' didn't even make the top 15? Oh Sydney Sweeney, your power. That's crazy as I know everyone hates her now and it bombed massively in the US, but I saw the trailer for it LOADS.

I had no idea that Jon M Chu directed Now You See Me 2, that makes the top 2 this week amusing Relieved that there's more love for Wicked in the UK than there is for Minecraft! I'm on holiday from Friday to Monday, and there are three movies being released this weekend that are essential watches for me ('Zootropolis 2', 'Christy' and 'Pillion' - plus I wouldn't mind checking out 'Blue Moon' if I get chance as I'm hearing buzz that Ethan Hawke could sneak an Oscar nom for it). The battle between Zootropolis 2 and week 2 of Wicked could be interesting.
  16. I enjoyed the finale and the entire series, and can't wait to see what names they manage to get for a second series considering the huge success that this one has been, but I can't believe that anyone was willing to end the game with Alan still in. I love him, but the way he burst out laughing whilst trying to say "I am a faithful" at the end of the previous episode, it just boggles my mind that they didn't banish him.

Really impressed with that hold for "Regretting You"! I loved it personally, but the reviews are pretty poor so I didn't expect it to hold up that well, guess the lack of major competition helped. I'm pleased it's now ahead of the total of Springsteen, and that that is tracking behind "Better Man". What a bore of a biopic.

This is a fun concept! Anything involving 2024 and 2025 was an educated or total guess but it's a good format for being able to (hopefully) get a bit lucky a few times.
  19. Ruth best not be murdered because she NEEDS to be at the roundtable when Jonathan gets banished and it's revealed that she's been bang on. 100% here for Jonathan being the first traitor to go. Feel bad for Tameka, don't know why they really went after her, it was just Mark with his suspicions and then her defending herself? Didn't feel like there was much evidence. Surprised Clare is already off the hook for her slip up in the first task.
  20. Just catching up and when I said this in the other thread, "Flo RiDavid Guetta" was one of the two that I was confident on 😂 It worked as a smash and I just assumed it was another dance act. Can't believe some people got Ida Corr but didn't recognise Eurovision legend Flo Rida 😭 But omg, Emma Buntonight tonight was a complete fluke (I don't even think this is the one I considered I might 'luck out on', that's still to come 😁), I obviously knew Emma and then just came up with something that could smash with her surname and I'd recently been reminded of the hit by Hot Chelle Rae.

Oh I can't WAIT for that All-Stars season to happen (actually no, CBS please don't, no amount of pot stirring is worth having to put up with another season of Vince, I've seen enough of that man to last a lifetime)
  22. Glad someone else paid tribute to such an ICONIC song @Calum

Charles Leclerc not the most successful Monegasque sportsperson of the year Yeah, I wouldn't put much weight in this result for how he's going to perform going forward, given fatigue of those who've played so many matches/tournaments this year and the tough conditions out in Shanghai, but what a fairytale run, and what a story given it was two unseeded cousins battling it out in the final.
  24. Did expect a quicker pace given nine episodes, but it makes sense that there was probably something written in contracts/they want to get their moneys worth out of these celebs. An overnight cliffhanger is fine, very annoying if you need to wait almost a week though. Thankful I only had time to catch up on episode 2 this morning!
  25. At least it started with an easy picture 😁 I couldn't name a Metallica song from the top of my head so just guessed at a random word that could be formed from the end of her surname
