Gallows - 'Grey Britain'
Heard the single today and I was really disappointed. I liked their previous album, but this was like heavy rock circa 1990 all over again. Sounded somewhat reminiscent of a tuneless version of Iron Maiden with extra-screamy vocals :(

PREDICT: Green Day - Know Your Enemy
I agree with Manic, I can't see it selling anywhere close to 1million - maybe 600K if it really is good, but of course having not heard it yet, we can have no idea.

PREDICT: Green Day - Know Your Enemy
Then maybe it should be :P Perhaps the Mods could make a rule about no PREDICT thread unless the track has been released to UK radio? I dunno, just a suggestion. :)

Indie Chart 1988
Wow, after what I just wrote in the "1988" thread...I Should Be So Lucky and then 3 Kylie trash-pop songs  That really is a bad indie chart, more like a pop chart (of course, I realize we're talking about independent labels in this context). Yazz, S Express, Erasure and New Order are OK though, despite New Order merely being a remix (one inferior to the original, but still OK). Edit: On saying that, I just checked out the Indie chart from Christmas 1999 and Cliff Richard's Millennium Prayer was number 1...and the current indie chart number 1 is Chipmunk with Chip Diddy Chip :puke2: :puke2:

1988
I certainly "gave up on music" at that time. After I Should Be So Lucky...which is still a decent pop song...when the charts became dominated by Kylie/Jason and all their soundalikes...I just gave up. Mind you, it was also around the time of my A-Levels/uni too - so maybe it was more that studying took over - I can't rightly recall. As for Loadsamoney, I hated it at the time and still do!

SOUNDCLASH >> #06 [Lady GaGa vs Metro Station]
No "They're both awful" button? :P I'll abstain from the vote... :(

Billboard Hot 100 - history was made
I don't know about the US Hot 100, but Cher's version of The Shoop Shoop Song was from the film Mermaids and charted in the UK in 1991 - I find it hard to believe that it would have charted at an entirely different point in the US. Her massive hit Believe was from the end of 1998 - perhaps you're getting it confused with that?

Billboard Hot 100 - history was made
 Hard to believe that even Cher's cover was from 18 years ago now.

The Almost Saturday Charts w/k ending 3rd Apr 2009
I Google'd it and came up with this... "anytime bar (mint honeycombe like middle in thin choc coating)" from a Chocolate Forum

Remembering Jade Goody
Well, having read the links you provided, I'm sure that those "in the know" are working on it. Their need to find a solution comes from the awareness brought about by the Panorama programme though. The sad fact is how long it will take for a proper solution to be found...and unfortunately the answer is: "far too long".

The Day Of The Triffids
 According to the clips I found on youtube, the original series was from 1962 :o It must have been a re-run of it that I saw, because I wouldn't have seen it until the late 70's/early 80's.

Depeche Mode - Wrong *Official Video*
"does not exist" removed already, I guess. Oh well, LOL.

Tommy Sparks 'She's Got Me Dancing' // 04-05-09
His previous (and very good) single "I'm A Rope" was easily indie, but this certainly does tend more toward the pop side of things, early 80's pop at that! Maybe in Retro then? ;) :P Also, his connections with Bloc Party might make people think to place this as indie...dunno. Anyway, I like it...so far. :D

Remembering Jade Goody
Well, it was the only option available to her for making the maximum amount of money she possibly could for her kids, so full credit to her for taking advantage of that opportunity. As for Jack "f'ing" Tweed...I guess "love really is blind". Maybe it'll be the making of him...though I seriously doubt it, not that he'll be able to do much from behind bars once his sentencing is complete! (If, of course, that's the punishment he's given). I know this will sound very clicheed, but it's nonetheless true...if even one approx. 25year old woman who wasn't intending to get screened, decides to get screened and it saves her life after hearing about Jade's nonchalant attitude to being screened herself, then that extra bit of publicity will have been worth it. As for your other points regarding that, I can't really comment as I have no experience of it, though I'm fairly sure that what you said is true.

Jade Goody 1981 - 2009 RIP
To a very minor extent, I believe they do. However, I also believe that they do far more harm than good. So, why is it that I still find the lure of the entertainment value of X-Factor impossible to resist? <<< (rhetorical question! And the only reality TV that I watch :P )

Tory MEP savages BROWN
And, unfortunately, had the Tories been in power over the last few years, I don't think we'd be in any better of a position. We'd just be seeing a similar clip with a Labour MP haranguing the current Tory leader.

The **Irish** Chart Thread 2009
I assume he means the TV ad for the Mazda car, it features The Noisettes' song.

Girl,14, faces child porn charges for posting nude pictures
They should indeed have monitored what she was doing on the internet - and who's to say that they weren't? They couldn't possibly have monitored her 24/7. If you insist on constantly "spying" on your teenage kids, you will almost certainly find yourself on the receiving end of a rather nasty rebellion with a sad and complete lack of trust and respect. For me, it's more about the education of the child, teaching them the very real dangers of such behaviour - that's where the parents failed in this case.

Girl,14, faces child porn charges for posting nude pictures
Very much agree with what you say about her boyfriend. I also agree about setting an example...but there are ways of setting an example and there are ways of setting an example. Putting her on the sex offender's register is ludicrous.

The Day Of The Triffids
:o I'd completely forgotten about the original series of this. I too was sometimes a bit freaked out by it, but I bet if I saw it repeated now it would just make me laugh, like some of the old Doctor Who monsters. I wonder if there are any old clips on youtube? /me goes to investigate :D

Regina Spektor 'Far' ??.06.09
Her previous material was interesting, I look forward to hearing what she can come up with this time around :)

Jade Goody 1981 - 2009 RIP
Brand was commenting on a current news item, not something which happened well over 40 years ago! And saying that The Beatles story is more deserving because John Lennon could be considered a working-class intellectual and Jade was poorly educated (or was poor at learning...take your pick!) is utterly ridiculous. I'm sure Jade was well aware that the likes of Endemol were making far more from the "circus" than she was making for her family and I'm sure that she'd probably have been more than a little annoyed by it. But moreover, she was simply determined to make as much money as she possibly could for her kids' sake. You may be right about Jade's view on having her actual death filmed, but that's not something I'd even like to begin to speculate about. And whomever "wins" (ugh, that word sounds obscene when used in this context) the TV rights for the funeral, you can add me to the list of people who won't be watching.

Remembering Jade Goody
Because she was so young and already had the attention of the media at the time of her demise. (I'd not heard anything more about Wendy Richard since her leaving Eastenders and I had absolutely no idea who Natasha Richardson was). Also, she wanted the media attention to 1) raise money for her kids 2) raise awareness of her condition and the necessity for screening even at such a young age. In comparison of the media coverage, obviously the Jade Goody story was disproportionately overexposed, I just ignored it toward the end (not that we are completely at the end of it just yet!).

Buffalo Stance peaked in 1989, so Rob might include it there - it will certainly be in my list for 1989 :D

American Idol could stop former contestant releasing album
Only just come across this... This story is shocking and worrying. It's unbelievable that a contract of that nature can be legal. It's taking the words "monopoly" and "exploitation" to a whole new level.
