  2. Hey! I bought Discotheque on the day of it's release! :P I'm incredibly underwhelmed by their latest offering though :( Since hearing it twice in the space of few hours on Radio 1, I've not heard Kelly's new single again. It needs to pick up a heck of a lot more airplay if it's going to achieve anything like the number 1 position that so many here seem certain of.
  3. I agree with Cremey, though I'm tending more towards the flop, because it's just so darned repetitive! I think it lacks substance...and a couple of verses :P Hazarding a guess at top 20
  4. It'll leave a big gap in Castle Mall, which already seems to be struggling against Chapelfields.
  5. I said I was surprised the Norwich store hadn't already gone...it was pretty inevitable :(
  6. On listening to the track, I'd've said number 5 or 6, but Radio 1 seem to be giving it their support so I expect that will push it into the top 3. Unfortunately, I don't think it's a great song, it's not particularly catchy, the lyrics are pretty much absurd and I certainly don't get what one poster said about any comparison to About You Now. I'm also baffled by the claim of the album being as eagerly anticipated as that of U2. Possibly amongst the Kelly Clarkson forum, but the general public appear to have largely forgotten about her. The only thing that may change this is the amount of airplay this receives and how much promotion she does.
  7. I didn't think much of Lily Allen's first album, but I really do like The Fear and it's looking on course to do very well :) I was really shocked to see a big fall for Girls Aloud on the album chart with Out Of Control, then I remembered that you include compilation albums in your list. I thought about asking you to do a list of just artist albums, but then realized I was just being lazy because it's not really that difficult to imagine the positions without them :P Though I did wonder why you do combine all albums, as the official charts haven't listed them like that for (I believe) over 20years now? Even ignoring the compilations, it's still quite a fall for Out Of Control considering both The Loving Kind and The Promise are in the top 40 singles :(
  8. They "get away" with it because no-one is that bothered by it to make a public outcry. When the media refer to the 19 consecutive top tens, they are in error...which is obviously unheard of! But the Official UK Singles Chart history remains the factual evidence.
  9. I appear to be the one talking to a brick wall. It is written in the history of the charts, "public perception" cannot change that fact.
  10. Then ask the Official UK Charts Company why they gave it a position on the Official UK SINGLES Chart - because that is the reason that the song will appear in the irrefutable Official records. It is in black and white as a fact which cannot be denied. As far as any hypocrisy is concerned...it's more the sycophantic fans refusing to accept the true situation. I have followed the chart for many years and would consider myself a music fan rather than being a fan of any particular artist (if any, possibly the Manic Street Preachers at one point :P ). I like a lot of the material that Girls Aloud have released, but the Official record exists and as I have said previously in another thread: unless the OCC backtrack and rewrite the charts in which the St Trinian's theme appeared the fact is that Girls Aloud's run of top ten hits has already been broken.

Girls Aloud just last week :P Out Of Control #10 album Greatest Hits #6 album
  12. I'm surprised Norwich isn't on the list. It doesn't seem that busy nowadays and it's quite a large store in a mall that I would imagine charges massive rent. Also there are two HMV stores in the city that seem much more busy.
  13. *Sigh* Their consecutive run was already officially ended, but that's a tired old argument... A little late picking up on this thread, would probably have voted that it would scrape a top ten placing had I voted last month, but now I think it'll just miss the top 10.
  14. On a chart of worst song title ever? Probably in the top 10. :P

Quite amusing to see the "Kylie-flop" posts. Which other artists have achieved as high a chart position with a remix album? Admittedly, she will have been helped by the January sales slump, but seriously #28 is very good.
  16. There is a far simpler logic that has to be applied. These "flop" songs are charting on the Official SINGLES Chart.
  17. I like the Lil Wayne comment. Sounds like you feel the same way about his music as I do; it's mostly awful. But yes, this song is really good :D Went with Top 3.

Voted Take That on the singles front - although I think Britney's Womanizer is the "best" of an astonishingly poor bunch. And The Killers for the albums.

I was a big fan of Duran Duran in the early-mid 80s, so it's definitely A View To A Kill for me!

Nobody Does It Better a close second, but seeing Paul McCartney performing Live And Let Die earlier this year was fantastic and so that gets my vote.

Close call between Viva La Vida and 4 Minutes - went with Viva La Vida in the end. Worst is easily Rihanna's Take A Bow... #Very En-ter-tai-ning# Err, no it ain't, love. Take your bitter whining elsewhere. I hope she never does another ballad.

Wamdue Project and Eiffel 65 would also have gotten that vote from me! And to the person who said in the 00's results thread that I must be a dance hater...while it isn't my favourite genre, there do seem to have been some gawd-awful dance tracks that have reached number 1. (Some decent ones though, Armand Van Helden and Livin' Joy :D )

  24. :o Heresy! :P But each to their own... :D I like most of what Oasis have done, but this latest track hasn't really caught my attention...at least not so far...could be a grower. I'd expect it only to peak at around #9 or 10.

Alesha's getting a lot of hype at the moment and I think that will set her up for the biggest single of those listed. Leona's latest is surprisingly poor, but an X-Factor performance might just give her the edge. Beyonce's is an awful lyrical mess which has alienated many people. Christina seems to have lost her fanbase, so I think she'll struggle and Dido's is just too bland to have a great impact.
