  1. “Wake Me Up” I probably wouldn’t put in GA’s absolute A tier but it’s very good and well produced. I think this was single #7 and I expected the quality to really be going downhill by this point but it wasn’t.
  2. I honestly thought throwing the juries out of the semis was one of the better rule changes. If you can’t stand out enough in a group of 15-18 for the public to vote you into the Top 10 we don’t need you on the Saturday. At least nobody who DNQed finished Top 8 on the televote.
  3. OMG at Switzerland coming 9th in the Jury vote and 9th in the televote and being 11th combined! 💀 💀 I wasn’t a fan of the song but wow. 💔
  4. Well I certainly didn’t for see that Bulgaria landslide although I did think tonight it really stood out more than it had in the semi. Very pleased for them! I did think it would be a strong televoter so felt it was looking very good for it as soon as it was acing the jury vote. Pretty good Top 10 for the most part. Other than Israel obviously being much higher than the song deserved the one I really don’t get as ever is Italy. But Romania ended up being my favourite of all so nice to see that 3rd. I really enjoyed Greece and Moldova on the night so good to see them in there.
  5. “Move Ya Body” is so clever and infectious and still sounds great! The best to miss the Top 10 here by miles.
  6. In another MJ connection “Drop Dead” emulating the chart run of “You Are Not Alone”!
  7. Lovely to see “Human Nature” deservedly becoming a proper hit!
  8. Yes let’s goooo!!
  9. Time for “Beauty And A Beat” to leave and not come back until at least 3012 please.
  10. Jack sounding quite passive aggressive there oops!
  11. Oh goodness - well at least it’s one of Katy’s better songs.
  12. Enjoying “Self Aware” more with each hearing - it’s nothing original but a very nice indie track.
  13. I’ve very much enjoyed having a first listen to the playlist today! As I know not everyone will read the OP in full here are the most important points: We’re using the 18,15, 13-1 voting system The deadline is the end of Saturday 30 May
  14. “Choosin’ Texas” is really good but let’s please not have loads of inferior copycats following it into the chart. That said the 6 week all climbing chart run is pleasing to the eye.
  15. Hmm “Rock Music” is OK on first listen - like the bubbling electro production but there’s not a whole lot to it beyond that.
  16. Entry closed - thanks to the 36 participants! 😮
  17. “Every Breath You Take” is a song I’d rush to listen to as it still feels so overexposed and indeed is currently in the 2026 year to date chart. But I do think it’s such a brilliant example of what it does it has to top this group. Behind it are a couple of wonderful discoveries, especially “Waiting For A Train” which has been in my head all day. 9 The Police Every Breath You Take 522nd #1: one of the most played songs in radio history and a brilliant riff introducing a sinister stalker anthem 9 Flash And The Pan Waiting For A Train Only Top 40 for this Australian group and it's glorious: I love the chugging rhythm and spoken verses and synths 8 Robert Wyatt Shipbuilding His 2nd and last Top 40 written by Elvis Costello: the song has great storytelling and it's a beautiful version of it 8 Yazoo Nobody's Diary The last in their trilogy of great Top 3 hits with the usual synth work and a gorgeous heartfelt but restrained vocal 7 Rush Countdown/New World Man "Countdown" is a really exciting track about the Columbia space shuttle launch; the other side isn't quite so good 7 Big Country In A Big Country Another song in their Celtic rock style: this has a unique sound and a warm and hearty feel to it that's enjoyable 6 Wham! Bad Boys Their biggest and most accomplished hit so far: is fun and exuberant from the point of view of a rebellious teenager 6 The Style Council Money Go Round (Part One) Not the most catchy but a funky track: I enjoy the almost rapped lines and the jazzy instrumental contributions 5 JoBoxers Just Got Lucky Their 2nd hit and another big one: again it's catchy and has a carefree charm about it without being exceptional 4 Booker Newberry III Love Town As is often the case a lot of these soul and funk songs come low for me but this one is not bad: his only Top 40 4 George Benson Lady Love Me (One More Time) The multiple key changes might be the most interesting feature here: it's a fairly pleasant and smooth soul track 3 Forrest Feel The Need In Me His 2nd and last Top 40 and they've both been covers: this is more uptempo than the original but doesn't match it 3 Mtume Juicy Fruit Only Top 40 for this US soul group: I gather this track about oral sex was influential but I don't get much from it 2 Al Jarreau Mornin' 1sr Top 40 for this US R&B singer: it's not unpleasant but very saccharine and has no real interesting features 2 Manchester United FC Glory, Glory, Man United A version of the age old terrace chant giving the club their 1st of a few Top 40 hits: it's bearable as these things go 1983 Group 10: #1077 28/05/1983 David Joseph Let's Live It Up (Nite People) 26 44-{26}-28-39-50->5 #1078 30/04/1983 Elton John I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues 5 74-49-47-41-41-27-18-9-6-{5}-10-15-26-39-56->15 #1079 28/05/1983 Altered Images Bring Me Closer 29 45-{29}-31-33-42-60->6 #1080 04/06/1983 Irene Cara Flashdance... 18. Me too. Good effort though.
  19. Gosh they sound painful!
  20. Not sure about Czechia.
  21. Norway pretty slick and well performed.
  22. Quite like the Maltese song - has a classic Mediterranean feel to it while being modern at the same time.
  23. Albania were my favourite last year - not so hot on this one as it’s a bit one note.
  24. The popera template is being copied too much now. I think that will be enough not to end Ukraine’s 100% qualification record though.
  25. Welcome to Bop Idol 7 representing 2006! Thank you so much for making this such a wonderful celebration for Buzzjack’s 20 year anniversary. This is an anonymous contest so please do not reveal or hint at your entry until the results are announced - but feel free to speculate what people may have sent! The tracks should link to the YouTube videos submitted, but let me know if any don’t work or are wrong. 1 Cassius - Toop Toop 2 Emma Bunton - Perfect Strangers 3 Islands - Rough Gem 4 Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, Yuko Goto - Hare Hare Yukai 5 Camera Obscura - Lloyd, I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken 6 Freestylers featuring Pendulum - Painkiller 7 Nelly Furtado - Do It 8 Yelle - Je Veux Te Voir 9 Deichkind - Remmidemmi 10 Sneaky Sound System - Pictures 11 Moony - For Your Love 12 Basement Jaxx - Take Me Back To Your House 13 Regina Spektor - On The Radio 14 Snow Patrol - Hands Open 15 Junior Boys - In The Morning 16 Infernal - Ten Miles 17 All Saints - Fundamental 18 Soul Avengers featuring Javine - Don’t Let The Morning Come 19 Beirut - After The Curtain 20 Delta Goodrem - Flawed 21 Dannii Minogue - Love Fight 22 Oxia - Domino 23 Daughtry - Feels Like Tonight 24 Anathallo - Dokkoise House (With Face Covered) 25 Cardigans - Don’t Blame Your Daughter (Diamonds) 26 Puracane - Warzone 27 The Hush Sound - Wine Red 28 The Knife - Silent Shout 29 Panda Bear - Bros 30 Saosin - You’re Not Alone 31 Evanescence - Sweet Sacrifice 32 LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great 33 Poets Of The Fall - Carnival Of Rust 34 Hot Chip - Colours 35 Keisha White - Don’t Mistake Me 36 The Pipettes - Because It’s Not Love (But It’s Still A Feeling) Full YouTube playlist here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRJmb8rfO8kOGWH_TV92CXwzYnnNZOdMO&si=RpuS-3C5a-AoCWPr As well as all not being UK Top 40 hits, none of the tracks have more than 100 million Spotify streams and so we’re happy that none of them are too well known. We are aware that the Sneaky Sound System and Islands tracks appeared in very old editions of BJSC and Unknown Pleasures respectively, but were happy to let them through.
