Round 8: Ultimate Survivor #11
This is tough - Florence is my favourite left and the other 2 are on a par. Went for Avril in the end as Florence-Kaisers would be a fun final.

Round 5: Year End Survivor #113
I’m moving to Holly now, though it’s not bad, especially the production.

Round 2: Year End Survivor #114
I’m afraid I will have to move to Steps now - neither of these are particularly strong.

Round 5: Year End Survivor #113
U2 have been blinded by the competition. In a period of extraordinary success for them this followed up 2 consecutive #1s in June 2005, but had a slightly ignominious 2-13 run. The track had originally been developed in sessions for the 1997 “Pop” album. 7th: U2 - City Of Blinding Lights 16/30 votes (53%) 8th: Jaimeson - Complete 10/31 votes (32%) 9th: ATB - Killer 9/30 votes (30%) 10th: P Diddy featuring Christina Aguilera - Tell Me 19/28 votes (68%)

Round 2: Year End Survivor #114
Finding the bass of the bass results table is Swedish DJ Jonas Altberg. This was his 3rd hit and after a #1 and a #2 this was more of a slow burner, eventually peaking at #14 in October 2008. He had a few more hits afterwards but none made the Top 10. 10th: Basshunter - Angel In The Night 14/33 votes (42%)

Julian rates every 21st century Top 40 hit
I was surprised that Roykssop hadn’t had a Top 40 until this point: what a double treat this one is though. 9 Royksopp Remind Me/So Easy 1st Top 40 for the Norwegian duo: Easy" is based on "Blue On Blue" and is utterly mesmerising; "Remind Me" is fab too 8 ATC Around The World (La La La La La) Only hit for Eurodance group "A Touch Of Class" based on the Russian song "Pessenka": this is surprisingly compelling 7 Coldplay In My Place Sheer demand for new material giving them a #2: it's lovely but doesn't have the magic of some of their other early hits 6 Bowling For Soup Girl All The Bad Guys Want Biggest hit by far for this US band active since 1994: it's a light hearted fun and catchy "Teenage Dirtbag" style song 6 Raven Maize Fascinated Last hit for the production group using a Cassius sample with Katherine Ellis singing: it's a good diva style house track 5 Def Leppard Now Their 1st Top 40 since 1996: their hits are never ground breaking but this is quite an enjoyable track with a big chorus 4 Intenso Project Luv Da Sunshine 1st hit for this UK group sampling 10cc: a summery Carribean style dance track that's well done but not really my thing 4 Cam'ron Featuring Juelz Santana Oh Boy 1st hit for this pair of US rappers: it's a well produced track but the high pitched "oh boy" is slightly grating after a while 3 Mad'house Like A Prayer 1st of a couple of cover hits for this Eurodance group: this has that tinny Black Legend style beat and could be far worse 3 Status Quo Jam Side Down Their 1st Top 20 since 1990, but that doesn't mean the sound has evolved and it sounds similar to most of their others 2 Toploader Time Of My Life Last hit for them: I find this incredibly bland, '90s style soft rock and they just sound like they're having quite a nice time 2002 Week 34: #1437 24/08/2002 Sugababes Round Round 1 {1}-2-3-3-7-15-18-25-29-36-47-56-72->13 #1438 24/08/2002 Romeo Romeo Dunn 3 {3}-9-11-15-21-33-47-54-58->9 #1439 24/08/2002 Daniel Bedingfield James Dean (I Wanna Know) 4 {4}-10-15-22-34-48-53-63->8 #1440 24/08/2002 Hear'Say Lovin' Is Easy 6 {6}-26-37-56-62R(3)-48-75->7 #1441 24/08/2002 Lasgo Alone 7 {7}-19-25-31-43-60-64-73->8 #1442 24/08/2002 H And Claire Half A Heart 8 {8}-29-45-65-59R(3)-50->6 #1443 24/08/2002 Snap! “Prada” actually OK for a while: 80-81 last week. “Like Him” 81-85 so indeed will be in trouble soon.

1 Cheetah 2 Sebastian Ingrosso 3 Clean Bandit I was surprised that I quite liked the Clean Bandit track and didn’t enjoy the Faithless track.

Streaming Services Chart Discussion; W/C 25/04/25
Poor “Ordinary” could hit ACR and plummet all the way to #2.
-
Indie/Rock Track of the Year; Quarter-Final 1 2025
Some of these I like more than when I listened for the weekly polls. “Blade Bird” for example didn’t really click first time round. Going for: Dog’s Dinner Blade Bird Emergence But there are half a dozen more I really enjoy - good list.

Song Covers SoundClash #35
I went for Pete Tong as the more enjoyable listening experience, but I do take the point that Rita did more with it.
-
Song Covers SoundClash #36
Went for Ellie though it’s far from great

Julian rates every 21st century Top 40 hit
At the time “Underneath Your Clothes” was my favourite by miles. I still do love it - I rarely enjoy soppy ballads but there’s something about Shakira’s touch that makes it special. But these days I’m falling slightly more for the manic charm of “Rockstar” with the hard hitting rap and some early Pharrell sung vocals. Sorry Viper - not feeling “My Friends Over You” at all. 9 N*E*R*D Rock Star I prefer the high octane Jason Nevins remix of this but the original is great too: a bracing and powerful rock hip hop track 8 Shakira Underneath Your Clothes I love this ballad: the endearing 2nd language lyrics, the way her voice breaks up in places and gentle instrumental touches 8 Dirty Vegas Ghosts They won't have any more Top 40s apart from a re-release of "Days Go By": this is another gorgeous atmospheric track 8 Linkin Park H! Vltg3/Pts.Of.Athrty Impressive that this 5th single reached the Top 10: like all of "Hybrid Theory" both these are marvellous rap metal songs 7 Vanessa Carlton A Thousand Miles Only Top 40 for this US singer songwriter: it may not be remarkable musically but this is a classic with an iconic piano riff 7 Darius Colourblind 931st#1: all the "Pop Idol" medalists now have #1s and this is the best of them: a soulful and lyrically imaginative number 7 Narcotic Thrust Safe From Harm 1st hit for this duo whose name is an anagram of one of theirs: I really enjoy the atmosphere and driving energy of this 6 Will Smith Featuring Tra-Knox Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head) From the "Men In Black II" soundtrack: I prefer this to most of Will's hits with its slick rap and the way it builds to a frenzy 6 Doves Pounding The instruments definitely are pounding here: it's really good but doesn't have the magic of "There Goes The Fear" for me 6 McAlmont And Butler Falling 1st hit in 5 years for the duo, but their sound hasn't changed much: nothing amazing but lovely vocals and orchestration 5 Natalie Imbruglia Beauty On The Fire Her 7th hit but 1st to miss the Top 20: this has lovely warm production and lyrics but it somehow lacks a bit of oomph 5 Primal Scream Miss Lucifer Their 1st hit for a while with a very stark and intense, slightly demonic sounding electronic sound: I don't entirely love it 5 Michelle Branch All You Wanted This doesn't quite have the soaring chorus of "Everywhere" but it's another enjoyable bit of proto-Avril style rock pop 4 The Streets Weak Become Heroes Another Streets song that nails the urban poetry side and has a nice chilled atmosphere but otherwise doesn't grab me 4 P Diddy Featuring Usher And Loon I Need A Girl (Part One)/U Don't Have To Call I like the shimmering production on "I Need A Girl", but it is a little repetitive and "U Don't Have To Call" is quite boring 3 George Michael Shoot The Dog A song mocking the Blair-Bush relationship and sampling The Human League's "Love Action": it's sorely in need of a hook 3 S Club Juniors Automatic High Like the debut it has some nice retro pop production but melodically it's less strong and again they sound too young for it 2 Britney Spears Featuring Pharrell Williams Boys A 2nd vastly inferior appearance from Pharrell in this group: this has the bare production of "I'm A Slave 4 U" but it's dull 2 New Found Glory My Friends Over You They'll have 6 Top 75s but this is the only Top 40 for this US rock band: this seems and big standard example of its genre 2 Natural Put Your Arms Around Me Only hit for this US boyband: this seems like a Backstreet Boys imitation and pop has already moved on from that sound 2002 Week 33: #1426 17/08/2002 Coldplay In My Place 2 {2}-13-24-31-39-45-45-52-71-71->10 #1427 17/08/2002 Mad'house Like A Prayer 3 {3}-5-7-8-11-15-30-33-41-52-54->11 #1428 17/08/2002 Bowling For Soup Girl All The Bad Guys Want 8 {8}-19-22-28-30-42-63-70->8 #1429 17/08/2002 Cam'ron Featuring Juelz Santana Oh Boy 13 {13}-21-30-33-40-46-71->7 #1430 17/08/2002 ATC Around The World (La La La La La) 15 {15}-23-34-47->4 #1431 17/08/2002 Status Quo Jam Side Down 17 {17}-25-44->3 #1432 17/08/2002 Toploader Time Of My Life 18 {18}-33-51-71-74-66-72->7 #1433 17/08/2002 Royksopp Remind Me/So Easy 21 {21}-38-54->3 #1434 17/08/2002 Intenso Project Luv Da Sunshine 22 {22}-47->2 #1435 17/08/2002 Def Leppard Now 23 {23}-53->2 #1436 17/08/2002 Raven Maize Fascinated 37 {37}-59->2

That would be a good challenge - to find a rolling chart where “Mr Brightside” isn’t in the Top 40. I suspect you’d have to go back a few years.
