  1. 1 Cheetah 2 Sebastian Ingrosso 3 Clean Bandit I was surprised that I quite liked the Clean Bandit track and didn’t enjoy the Faithless track.
  2. Poor “Ordinary” could hit ACR and plummet all the way to #2.
  3. Some of these I like more than when I listened for the weekly polls. “Blade Bird” for example didn’t really click first time round. Going for: Dog’s Dinner Blade Bird Emergence But there are half a dozen more I really enjoy - good list.
  4. I went for Pete Tong as the more enjoyable listening experience, but I do take the point that Rita did more with it.
  5. Went for Ellie though it’s far from great
  6. At the time “Underneath Your Clothes” was my favourite by miles. I still do love it - I rarely enjoy soppy ballads but there’s something about Shakira’s touch that makes it special. But these days I’m falling slightly more for the manic charm of “Rockstar” with the hard hitting rap and some early Pharrell sung vocals. Sorry Viper - not feeling “My Friends Over You” at all. 9 N*E*R*D Rock Star I prefer the high octane Jason Nevins remix of this but the original is great too: a bracing and powerful rock hip hop track 8 Shakira Underneath Your Clothes I love this ballad: the endearing 2nd language lyrics, the way her voice breaks up in places and gentle instrumental touches 8 Dirty Vegas Ghosts They won't have any more Top 40s apart from a re-release of "Days Go By": this is another gorgeous atmospheric track 8 Linkin Park H! Vltg3/Pts.Of.Athrty Impressive that this 5th single reached the Top 10: like all of "Hybrid Theory" both these are marvellous rap metal songs 7 Vanessa Carlton A Thousand Miles Only Top 40 for this US singer songwriter: it may not be remarkable musically but this is a classic with an iconic piano riff 7 Darius Colourblind 931st#1: all the "Pop Idol" medalists now have #1s and this is the best of them: a soulful and lyrically imaginative number 7 Narcotic Thrust Safe From Harm 1st hit for this duo whose name is an anagram of one of theirs: I really enjoy the atmosphere and driving energy of this 6 Will Smith Featuring Tra-Knox Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head) From the "Men In Black II" soundtrack: I prefer this to most of Will's hits with its slick rap and the way it builds to a frenzy 6 Doves Pounding The instruments definitely are pounding here: it's really good but doesn't have the magic of "There Goes The Fear" for me 6 McAlmont And Butler Falling 1st hit in 5 years for the duo, but their sound hasn't changed much: nothing amazing but lovely vocals and orchestration 5 Natalie Imbruglia Beauty On The Fire Her 7th hit but 1st to miss the Top 20: this has lovely warm production and lyrics but it somehow lacks a bit of oomph 5 Primal Scream Miss Lucifer Their 1st hit for a while with a very stark and intense, slightly demonic sounding electronic sound: I don't entirely love it 5 Michelle Branch All You Wanted This doesn't quite have the soaring chorus of "Everywhere" but it's another enjoyable bit of proto-Avril style rock pop 4 The Streets Weak Become Heroes Another Streets song that nails the urban poetry side and has a nice chilled atmosphere but otherwise doesn't grab me 4 P Diddy Featuring Usher And Loon I Need A Girl (Part One)/U Don't Have To Call I like the shimmering production on "I Need A Girl", but it is a little repetitive and "U Don't Have To Call" is quite boring 3 George Michael Shoot The Dog A song mocking the Blair-Bush relationship and sampling The Human League's "Love Action": it's sorely in need of a hook 3 S Club Juniors Automatic High Like the debut it has some nice retro pop production but melodically it's less strong and again they sound too young for it 2 Britney Spears Featuring Pharrell Williams Boys A 2nd vastly inferior appearance from Pharrell in this group: this has the bare production of "I'm A Slave 4 U" but it's dull 2 New Found Glory My Friends Over You They'll have 6 Top 75s but this is the only Top 40 for this US rock band: this seems and big standard example of its genre 2 Natural Put Your Arms Around Me Only hit for this US boyband: this seems like a Backstreet Boys imitation and pop has already moved on from that sound 2002 Week 33: #1426 17/08/2002 Coldplay In My Place 2 {2}-13-24-31-39-45-45-52-71-71->10 #1427 17/08/2002 Mad'house Like A Prayer 3 {3}-5-7-8-11-15-30-33-41-52-54->11 #1428 17/08/2002 Bowling For Soup Girl All The Bad Guys Want 8 {8}-19-22-28-30-42-63-70->8 #1429 17/08/2002 Cam'ron Featuring Juelz Santana Oh Boy 13 {13}-21-30-33-40-46-71->7 #1430 17/08/2002 ATC Around The World (La La La La La) 15 {15}-23-34-47->4 #1431 17/08/2002 Status Quo Jam Side Down 17 {17}-25-44->3 #1432 17/08/2002 Toploader Time Of My Life 18 {18}-33-51-71-74-66-72->7 #1433 17/08/2002 Royksopp Remind Me/So Easy 21 {21}-38-54->3 #1434 17/08/2002 Intenso Project Luv Da Sunshine 22 {22}-47->2 #1435 17/08/2002 Def Leppard Now 23 {23}-53->2 #1436 17/08/2002 Raven Maize Fascinated 37 {37}-59->2
  7. Quite like all the second half. Went for Worakls - it’s subtle but very nice. Second Purple Disco Machine and third Sigma.
  8. 1 Lana 2 Artemas 3 Fontaines
  9. That would be a good challenge - to find a rolling chart where “Mr Brightside” isn’t in the Top 40. I suspect you’d have to go back a few years.
  10. Basshunter 1st for me - just utterly naff.
  11. My Top 3 gone now. 😪 Seriously I love Robyn but “Be Mine” is not a classic.
  12. 5th: The Killers - Read My Mind 10/32 votes (31%) 6th: Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor 9/32 votes (28%) 7th: Andreas Johnson - Glorious 7/30 votes (23%) 8th: Bob Sinclar featuring Gary ‘Nesta’ Pine - Love Generation 10/29 votes (34%) 9th: Jamelia - See It In A Boy’s Eyes 11/33 votes (33%) 10th: Kelly Clarkson - Because Of You 8/32 votes (25%)
  13. Jamieson’s time in the competition is complete. This became the second consecutive #4 hit for the garage producer in August 2003. The track features a vocalist called Xara, and does feel forgotten for a hit of its size with only around 0.5 million Spotify streams. 8th: Jaimeson - Complete 10/31 votes (32%) 9th: ATB - Killer 9/30 votes (30%) 10th: P Diddy featuring Christina Aguilera - Tell Me 19/28 votes (68%)
  14. Including one of Bon Jovi’s best songs it was a stellar all new dance / pop / rock Top 3.
  15. “Reach” is great in its way but “It Feels So Good” is a masterpiece!
  16. Quarterly sounds great. I’d guess 80k for “Fortnight” in Q1. Yes! I was obviously overestimating it in the weeks straight after it left the chart. It’s at least above “Slow It Down” which I have on 192.5k so helpfully that places it quite narrowly this week.

  18. ^ Yes I reckon “Fortnight” must have done roughly 100-110k so far this year.

  21. I love the rolling chart idea - I used to try and do it in the download age but it took too much time. If you want to estimate it every month or quarter I’ll definitely read it! Interesting to see “Espresso” getting that #1 peak.
  22. It was “All Of Me” for a while but “Wonderwall” overtook around 2021 so that Wiki is quite out of date oops.
  23. In UK chart sales there’s a fair way to go: “Bad Guy” 3 million and “Birds Of A Feather” 1.6 million. But that’s after 6 years for the former and less than 1 for the latter.
