As revealed in the sales commentary Merry Christmas would only be #3 - but the highest non Christmas song would be tumbling to #8.
#7 is a new peak for Brenda Lee and Sia’s Snowman would be entering the Top 40 for the first time. What a shame that it only became popular after hitting permanent ACR.

Great result for Don’t Shut Me Down! I do think it deserves its place even though I wouldn’t have wanted it to get right to the top.
It’s just the perfect comeback. The lyric “I’m now and then combined” still gets me every time. They’re the same old ABBA and yet different. It’s a message to the public, and the fans and to themselves all at the same time. Just magic.
Stunning Top 5; well chosen all.

It’s not just that - I have no confidence that the people voting are weighing up the merits of the songs properly. Like when Buzzjack does polls of course they’re slightly skewed because the forum represents a particular demographic but I have every confidence that the people voting will have done the research necessary and will have at least tried to put aside their prejudices and vote fairly. This vote seems to be largely coming down to “Which one was out when I was growing up?”
I do realise it’s just a little Twitter poll and not worth getting worked up about. :arrr: :D

I think we’re all agreed that All Fired Up wins the thread and everything else is vying for 2nd. :D
Coming back to the Christmas theme, I’d say We Wish You A Merry Christmas, The Twelve Days Of Christmas and maybe some carols are actually more universally recognisable than any of the classic pop hits.

Mud’s classic being beaten by an X Factor winning song is just  . (No disrespect to Leona who’s obviously one of the most successful X Factor winners - I’m sure she wouldn’t class it as her finest work herself.)
And the other result is wrong too in my view, though SOTU is great.
I’m fast losing interest in this - not because of the discussion here but because the electorate is so obviously skewed.

I’ve done a last YTD update showing the change in positions since the end of October. Credit to ChartsPlus for the positions; all sales are my approximate estimates.
Poor Masked Wolf is going to drop out of the Top 40 and be replaced by “Perfect”.

It certainly feels like solo artists collaborating in different combinations has become more and more the done thing when it comes to chart music, perhaps lessening the need for groups. I’m not sure what’s driven that but I guess it’s easier and easier for artists to work together without even meeting.

The Day Before You Came is amazing - not my first choice to listen to but possibly their most exquisite piece of art. The mundane lyrics and almost bored vocals against the ever more menacing accompaniment is just brilliant.
Voulez Vous is the last song out that I don’t love. I think it’s quite a weak chorus by their standards and it goes on a bit. Great Top 13!

ABBA • The Singles Rate [RESULTS]
in Pop and Country
Knowing Me Knowing You is utterly fantastic. As Nina says I think it marks the point when ABBA became real heavyweights and it’s the ultimate break-up song. I could easily have given it an 11 but I decided to give my 11s to two underrated gems instead.
The Winner Takes It All to win please!
