Pop Track of the Week
That Grace Davies song is an absolute whirlwind! Had to go for that. Ariana 2nd - I think that style does really suit her. Limahl probably 3rd - not a bad cover.

Bop Idol 3.0: THE RESULTS!
Wow - my 1st ever song contest win. Thanks very much for all the votes - especially Wardy, Jade and Lewis for the 12s. Apologies if it was an obvious entry for some - I know it is from one of the most owned albums of the ‘00s decade. As a 16 year old I actually became hyper-obsessed with this album. I probably listened to it more times than Joseph’s listened to “As It Was”. My taste has thankfully become much more varied since but this particular track still has a big place in my heart. “White Flag” comes close but it’s my favourite Dido song bar none and I think the production is really special. So I felt I had to send it to this. Thanks all for indulging me and for the great other song picks, and Mangø for a brilliant hosting job!

Bop Idol 3.0: THE RESULTS!
Well this is nail biting - I know Lewis said he enjoyed “Take My Hand” in the listenthrough so hopefully that’s a positive sign!

I should have included “Labour” in the update as a recent-ish song: non mover at #99 this week. “Close To You” was indeed heading out: #97 was its low point.

Oh I didn’t have Jack down for M83 at all - thought Jim was a good shout. Great pick anyway.

It has more than 1 billion Spotify streams and might now be considered his signature song. 6th: Sean Paul - Temperature 14/31 votes (45%) 7th: Feist - 1234 10/32 votes (31%) 8th: Cascada - What Hurts The Most 12/34 votes (35%) 9th: Nickelback - Someday 10/30 votes (33%) 10th: Westlife - What Makes A Man 21/33 votes (64%)

Round 3: Year End Survivor #112
Marching out are Destiny’s Child featuring T.I. and Lil Wayne, who reached #4 with their 2nd single from their final album “Destiny Fulfilled” in February 2005. Despite peaking higher it was actually outsold by the follow up “Girl” which made the year end Top 100. 9th: Destiny’s Child featuring T.I. and Lil Wayne - Soldier 12/30 votes (40%) 10th: Sergio Mendes featuring The Black Eyed Peas - Mas Que Nada 12/32 votes (32%)

The Final: Year End Survivor #110
Despite all their digging for gold Kanye and Jamie only found a bronze medal. It samples the 1954 Ray Charles track “I Got A Woman” and was a US #1, but peaked at #2 here in October 2005. It was the #35 of 2005 but also the #110 of 2006 thanks to its strong downloads. 3rd: Kanye West & Jamie Foxx - Gold Digger 16/33 votes (48%) 4th: Max Graham VS Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart 14/32 votes (44%) 5th: Pink - Trouble 12/32 votes (38%) 6th: Ms Dynamite - It Takes More 16/33 votes (48%) 7th: The Manic Street Preachers - The Masses Against The Classes 9/33 votes (27%) 8th: BBMak - Back Here 20/30 votes (67%) 9th: Blue - Curtain Falls 15/32 votes (47%) 10th: Natasha Bedingfield - I Wanna Have Your Babies 15/31 votes (48%)

Julian rates every 21st century Top 40 hit
A bumper group here and lots of great stuff, but “There Goes The Fear” has to take the win as it’s such a special track that feels like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket. The Chemicals push it close though and The Sugababes with their stunning mash-up cover. 9 Doves There Goes The Fear Their biggest hit only available briefly: beautifully atmospheric and tender; a song that makes the whole world seem better 9 The Chemical Brothers Come With Us/The Test An epic contrasting duo: "Come With Us" has brilliant building intensity and "The Test" showcases Richard Ashcroft's vocals 8 Sugababes Freak Like Me 923rd #1: covering Adina Howard and sampling "Are Friends Electric?": a marriage made in heaven and very striking track 8 New Order Here To Stay Chrmical Brothers appearing again as producers and it's an excellent track combined with New Order's usual vocal energy 8 Drowning Pool Bodies Only Top 40 for this US nu metal band: it's quite heavy but I love the passion of the explosive chorus and the spoken parts 7 Pulp Bad Cover Version Their last hit before they go on hiatus: it's a fun track and I really enjoy the lyrics which are delightfully miserable and bitter 7 Push Tranzy State Of Mind The last Top 40 for the trance DJ and it's a compelling floor filling theme like all of his hits, plus I enjoy the robotic vocals 7 Idlewild You Held The World In Your Arms Their only Top 10 hit: this has an anthemic and feel good quality to it with orchestral production and a memorable chorus 6 *NSync Featuring Nelly Girlfriend Last hit for the group before Justin goes solo: I really like the combination of Nelly's style with theirs and it's a good song 6 Kosheen Hungry An enjoyable electronic pop track with a strong melody quite similar to their previous hit "Catch", but nothing exceptional 6 Oasis The Hindu Times 922nd #1: it's a big energetic twangy number to announce their return which somehow falls a little short of being great 5 S Club Juniors One Step Closer 1st of a trio of runner up hits for the spin off group: good song but I do find children singing about romantic love jarring 5 Haven Til The End Their 2nd and last Top 40: this is a decent track and they're like a proto-Keane but without the poetry and big melodies 4 The Streets Let's Push Things Forward Their 2nd hit: there's some good lyrical writing here but it's also slightly full of itself and the melody isn't up to very much 4 Kristine Blond You Make Me Go Ooh Her last hit with a perfectly serviceable slice of garage pop with a jangly riff, it's very of the time and nothing remarkable 3 Pay As U Go Champagne Dance Only hit for this UK garage band which included Wiley: it's quite an in your face track but it doesn't do a whole lot for me 3 Mad Donna The Wheels On The Bus Sampling "Ray Of Light" with a voice that does sound very like Madonna singing the nursery rhyme: quite fun for 1 listen 2 Lyte Funkie Ones Every Other Time Their last hit and unfortunately it lacks the cheesy charm of earlier hits and is quite a grating listen as well as being naff 2002 Week 19: #1274 11/05/2002 Holly Valance Kiss Kiss 1 {1}-2-5-10-9-10-15-20-21-26-34-38-41-37-50-66->16 #1275 11/05/2002 Tweet Oops (Oh My) 5 {5}-9-17-23-32-42-45-61->8 #1276 11/05/2002 Shakedown At Night 6 {6}-13-20-34-40-52-57-68->8 #1277 11/05/2002 Mary J. Not a hugely well remembered but a very good group of hits here. The collaboration of Rollo and Dido Armstrong worked so well that it felt like there was more potential there. 8 Faithless Featuring Dido One Step Too Far The 4th single from "Outrospective" but 2nd highest peaking: Dido's vocals work so well on this and it sounds ethereal 8 X-Press 2 Featuring David Byrne Lazy This house duo had many minor hits but this is the only Top 30: wonderfully quirky lyrically with a great driving rhythm 8 Galleon So I Begin Only hit for this Daft Punk-esque French group: a strong tune here and the production has that great familiar house sound 7 1 Giant Leap Featuring Maxi Jazz And Robbie Williams My Culture Maxi Jazz entering the Top 10 twice this week: a very enjoyable collaboration with this electronic duo and Robbie here 7 Barthezz Infected 2nd and final hit for DJ Bart Claesson: they've both been really strong trance tracks and this has a very infectious melody 7 Agent Sumo Why Another house act with their sole Top 40: can't find much info about this but I find it a really rousing and enjoyable track 6 Garbage Breaking Up The Girl 3rd hit from "Beautiful Garbage": this is more in their rocky style than "Cherry Lips" and enjoyable but doesn't stand out 6 The Vines Highly Evolved 1st hit for this Australian rock band active since 1994: I love the energetic grungy style; think the chorus could be stronger 5 So Solid Crew Ride Wid Us Their 4th Top 20 hit: it's not quite as strong as the others but still the production gives it their usual urgency and intensity 5 Usher U Turn One of those tracks like "Cha Cha Slide" that teaches a dance: it's nothing remarkable but quite a fun and catchy chorus 4 Ryan Adams Answering Bell 1st Top 40 for this US singer songwriter: it's quite an ordinary folky number that's pleasant but certainly not at all thrilling 3 3SL Take It Easy Stood for "3 Single Lads": 1st hit for this UK pop group and it doesn't have a huge amount to it but it's pleasant and jolly 2002 Weeks 17 and 18: #1256 27/04/2002 Oasis The Hindu Times 1 {1}-4-13-23-37-51-66-63-65-62-74->11 #1257 27/04/2002 *NSync Featuring Nelly Girlfriend 2 {2}-3-4-7-15-21-28-31-41-52-63-63->12 #1258 27/04/2002 Doves There Goes The Fear 3 {3}-34-70->3 #1259 27/04/2002 Pay As U Go Champagne Dance 13 {13}-30-42-64->4 #1260 27/04/2002 New Order Here To Stay 15 {15}-43-67->3 #1261 27/04/2002 Lyte Funkie Ones Every Other Time 24 {24}-32-45->3 #1262 27/04/2002 Pulp Bad Cover Version 27 {27}-52->2 #1263 27/04/2002 The Streets Let's Push Things Forward 30 {30}-39-57->3 #1264 27/04/2002 Drowning Pool Bodies 34 {34}-50->2 #1265 04/05/2002 Sugababes Freak Like Me 1 {1}-3-6-10-16-24-25-35-44-53-57-64R(2)-62-72->14 #1266 04/05/2002 S Club Juniors One Step Closer 2 {2}-2-4-7-13-17-15-22-28-33-35-44-47-58-71-75->16 #1267 04/05/2002 Idlewild You Held The World In Your Arms 9 {9}-27-45-67->4 #1268 04/05/2002 Kosheen Hungry 13 {13}-28-40-58->4 #1269 04/05/2002 The Chemical Brothers Come With Us/The Test 14 {14}-40-55->3 #1270 04/05/2002 Mad Donna The Wheels On The Bus 17 {17}-26-35-52->4 #1271 04/05/2002 Haven Til The End 28 {28}-55->2 #1272 04/05/2002 Push Tranzy State Of Mind 31 {31}-58->2 #1273 04/05/2002 Kristine Blond You Make Me Go Ooh 35 {35}-56->2

Gaga now for me - probably the weakest single from “The Fame” though still good and I like the production.
