  2. Just what springs to mind immediately: Hung Up Flowers I’ll Be Missing You (OK that’s almost a full on cover) Edit missed that the original had to be a #1 - OK only the latter just about counts then.
  3. At the bottom of the OP there’s a nice YouTube embed that plays just the 3 not on Spotify. I don’t think there’s a full YouTube playlist.
  4. On this occasion I’m going for Westlife - it’s no more than a 5/10 and not particularly imaginative but they did it nicely. The Fyfe Dangerfield one doesn’t add much to the song.
  5. Week 25: Best: Kendrick Lamar - HUMBLE. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper - Shallow Post Malone and Swae Lee - Sunflower Sia - Cheap Thrills (feat. Sean Paul) The Weeknd - Starboy (feat. Daft Punk) Worst: Ed Sheeran - Perfect Duet (w/ Beyoncé) / Perfect Ariana Grande - 7 rings Maroon 5 - Girls Like You (feat. Cardi B)
  6. Week 24: Best: Adele - Set Fire To The Rain Bruno Mars - Locked Out Of Heaven Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra) P!nk - Just Give Me A Reason (feat. Nate Ruess) The Weeknd - The Hills Worst: Wiz Khalifa - See You Again (feat. Charlie Puth) Bruno Mars - When I Was Your Man Flo Rida - Whistle
  7. How the hell did they end up like this? Nickelback are out 2nd with “Someday”, which was the lead single from “The Long Road”. It reached #6 in September 2003 becoming their 3rd Top 10 hit. The follow up only reached #39 later in the year, and you’d have been forgiven for thinking they wouldn’t ever have another big hit… 9th: Nickelback - Someday 10/30 votes (33%) 10th: Westlife - What Makes A Man 21/33 votes (64%)
  8. I went for Max Graham this time, though I do love the original “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”.
  9. It takes more from Miss Dynamit-ee-hee to amuse Buzzjack as “It Takes More” is eliminated. It was her debut hit from the Mercury winning “A Little Deeper”, and reached #7 in June 2002. 6th: Ms Dynamite - It Takes More 16/33 votes (48%) 7th: The Manic Street Preachers - The Masses Against The Classes 9/33 votes (27%) 8th: BBMak - Back Here 20/30 votes (67%) 9th: Blue - Curtain Falls 15/32 votes (47%) 10th: Natasha Bedingfield - I Wanna Have Your Babies 15/31 votes (48%)
  10. No use to deny this simple truth: Guetta is out in 3rd place. “Love Is Gone” was the French DJ’s 2nd big hit, peaking at #9 in August 2007. Who’d have thought he’s still be having hits mostly with rubbish nearly 2 decades later? 3rd: David Guetta & Chris Willis - Love Is Gone 16/35 votes (46%) 4th: S Club 8 - Sundown 14/30 votes (47%) 5th: 3LW - No More (Baby Ima Do Right) 11/34 votes (32%) 6th: The Pirates featuring Enya, Shola Ama & Naila Boss - You Should Really Know 9/29 votes (31%) 7th: Stephen Gately - New Beginning 10/27 votes (37%) 8th: U2 & Green Day - The Saints Are Coming 8/30 votes (27%) 9th: Chipmunk featuring Emeli Sandé - Diamond Rings 7/30 votes (23%) 10th: Son Of Dork - Ticket Outta Loserville 15/31 votes (48%)
  11. Oof quite a drop in overall posts, but good to see 21st Century Throwback get another 2nd place!
  12. If this were a Gezza thread it would have been mentioned that “Anything Is Possible” / “Evergreen” sold nearly 1.8 million copies and “Unchained Melody” over 1.3 million. They were the two biggest selling singles of the decade, though there totals would be beaten at the height of the download era. However here we get to focus on the good music instead, such as the wonderful dance track “Mindcircus” which Imogen Heap co-wrote. 8 Way Out West Featuring Tricia Lee Mindcircus Only Top 40 this century for the UK electronic duo: it's a gorgeous track with beautiful clear vocals from Tricia Lee Kelshall 8 Blue Fly By II Their 4th his and unlucky to miss the Top 5 in a very competitive week: it's one of their best songs with plenty of punch 7 Starsailor Poor Misguided Fool The usual piano led rock ballad but one of my favourites of theirs: the sheer bitterness of it comes through very effectively 7 Pet Shop Boys Home And Dry Their 1st hit for a while from their 8th album "Release": it's the usual synth-pop sound but it's comforting to have it back 6 Darren Hayes Insatiable His 1st and biggest solo hit: not my usual thing but this is a passionate convincingly delivered ballad that builds very nicely 5 George Michael Freeek! The lyrics about the "tits and arse world" are strong and I like the production: I just think the song itself is a little lacking 4 Alicia Keys A Woman's Worth I don't enjoy the "real woman" and "real man" lyrics on this: orherwise it's a very soulful, classy, smooth and sultry track 3 Cassius Henry Broke Only Top 40 for this UK singer who will appear on "The Voice" I rather enjoy the rap but otherwise it's a bland RnB track 2 Marilyn Manson Tainted Love His only Top 10 hit: the Soft Cell version has just the right amount of anger and this over the top cover is not that pleasant 1 Gareth Gates Unchained Melody 921st #1: "to the say, to the say" - Will's single was slightly dull but this cover is ghastly and not what the song deserved 2002 Week 14: #1220 06/04/2002 Missy 'Misdemeanor' Elliott 4 My People 5 {5}-6-7-8-10-14-17-22-35-42-49-53-73->13 #1221 06/04/2002 Shy FX And T Power Featuring Di Shake Ur Body 7 {7}-13-18-20-22-31-38-47-66-75-57->11 #1222 06/04/2002 Anastacia One Day In Your Life 11 {11}-15-21-25-24-32-37-46-64->9 #1223 06/04/2002 Badly Drawn Boy Silent Sigh 16 {16}-32-48-56-65-61-67->7 #1224 06/04/2002 Travis Flowers In The Window 18 {18}-30-38-43-56-59-51->7 #1225 06/04/2002 Outkast Featuring Killer Mike The Whole World 19 {19}-27-33-41-58->5 #1226 06/04/2002 Sum 41 Motivation 21 {21}-34-49-65-69-69-70->7 #1227 06/04/2002 The Bluetones After Hours 26 {26}-56->2 #1228 06/04/2002 Marc Et Claude Tremble 29 {29}-55-69->3 #1229 06/04/2002 Adam F Featuring Lil' Mo Where's My..? 37 {37}-66->2

  17. This would be in my Top 5 I think… I just adore it. Perfect from the heart pop with little nods to where it’s from in the production and the chanted parts of the chorus.
  18. Once again we venture to the lower end of the week’s new entries to find the highlights, and topping the list is this very sensual track from Bjork. In fact the YouTube video can’t be pasted here as it is deemed to contain nudity! 8 Bjork Cocoon This is so intimate it feels like she's there in the room with you, and I love the percussion and the track's homemade feel 8 Tillmann Uhrmacher On The Run Only hit for this German DJ: a beautiful trance track that conveys the sense of being on the run and I like the robotic vocals 7 Natalie Imbruglia Wrong Impression After "That Day" only reached #11 she did well to get into the Top 10 with this, which is a lovely track with rich production 7 Celine Dion A New Day Has Come Her 1st hit in a while from her 18th album: this has a lovely fresh and positive feel to it and is up there with her best songs 6 System Of A Down Toxicity The follow up to the brilliant "Chop Suey": this is also an enjoyable nu metal song but doesn't quite recreate the epic power 6 Jennifer Lopez Ain't It Funny {2002} Reviewing this again as it's clearly a different song to the more poppy version: that is better but I do enjoy this RnB duet 5 Felon Get Out Only hit for this girl group and I can't find out much about them, but this is quite an enjoyable and dynamic pop RnB track 5 Peran Good Time Only hit for this Amsterdam DJ: it uses the same sample as Primal Scream's "Loaded" and it's a decent rousing floor filler 4 Lostprophets The Fake Sound Of Progress Their 1st Top 40 after reaching #41 with their last single: a good heavy rock song but the vocals are somewhat obnoxious 3 Ali G And Shaggy Me Julie Only hit for the comedian and last really big one for Shaggy: it's very much a novelty song but quite a fun piece of RnB pop 3 Warren Stacey My Girl My Girl Only hit for this "Popstars" contestant who was eliminated for being too gospel orientated, but this is run of the mill RnB 2002 Week 13: #1210 30/03/2002 Gareth Gates Unchained Melody 1 {1}-1-1-1-4-8-12-19-28-32-36-35-40-53-46-46-55-59-57-63-64-68-61-66-61-68-73R(2)-69R(13)-58-73->30 #1211 30/03/2002 Marilyn Manson Tainted Love 5 {5}-8-9-20-23-26-35-39-44-53-74->11 #1212 30/03/2002 Blue Fly By II 6 {6}-9-10-15-18-21-24-34-38-50-57-56->12 #1213 30/03/2002 George Michael Freeek! 7 {7}-17-28-42-47-57-65-54-61-74->10 #1214 30/03/2002 Darren Hayes Insatiable 8 {8}-12-12-13-12-12-16-20-25-37-39-44-50-65->14 #1215 30/03/2002 Pet Shop Boys Home And Dry 14 {14}-31-54-65-68-72->6 #1216 30/03/2002 Alicia Keys A Woman's Worth 18 {18}-24-35-52-58-68-68-74->8 #1217 30/03/2002 Starsailor Poor Misguided Fool 23 {23}-46-74->3 #1218 30/03/2002 Cassius Henry Broke 31 {31}-52->2 #1219 30/03/2002 Way Out West Featuring Tricia Lee Mindcircus 39 {39}-75->2
  19. “White Lines” is so ahead of its time - the best thing out so far. “Flawless” is a great dance track that’s been widely used and sampled over the years. “How Do I Live” is still a 6/10 for me but the worst thing in this very good final - it’s very Heart FM, but I do like “Can’t Fight The Moonlight” a lot.
  20. I quite like the mashup element of the Atomic Kitten record so have gone for that
  21. If failure makes a man Westlife are definitely men now with their number of 1st round exits- including 2 for this song alone. It reached #2 in December 2000, losing out to Bob The Builder, and was their first #1 miss. 10th: Westlife - What Makes A Man 21/33 votes (64%)
  22. It’s The Manics Against The Buzzjacks as the former are elminated. This was the 1st new #1 of the millennium in January 2000, but with a rather unflattering 1-4-20-39 run. 7th: The Manic Street Preachers - The Masses Against The Classes 9/33 votes (27%) 8th: BBMak - Back Here 20/30 votes (67%) 9th: Blue - Curtain Falls 15/32 votes (47%) 10th: Natasha Bedingfield - I Wanna Have Your Babies 15/31 votes (48%)
  23. DJ Ötzi referred to “Hey Baby from the 70s” even though it was from the 60s. I thought of that as I voted for “Hey Baby” for the 7th time…
  24. The sun finally sets on the juniors, known as S Club 8 by this point. “Sundown” reached #4 in October 2003; after this they only had 1 more hit which was the only non Top 10 of the whole S Club venture. 4th: S Club 8 - Sundown 14/30 votes (47%) 5th: 3LW - No More (Baby Ima Do Right) 11/34 votes (32%) 6th: The Pirates featuring Enya, Shola Ama & Naila Boss - You Should Really Know 9/29 votes (31%) 7th: Stephen Gately - New Beginning 10/27 votes (37%) 8th: U2 & Green Day - The Saints Are Coming 8/30 votes (27%) 9th: Chipmunk featuring Emeli Sandé - Diamond Rings 7/30 votes (23%) 10th: Son Of Dork - Ticket Outta Loserville 15/31 votes (48%)
  25. I do like “A New England” but it’s quite understated and I was surprised it made it through. “Strange And Beautiful” is gorgeous - such a gentle and atmospheric track. “Let Your Love Flow” is my favourite though - I know it’s not groundbreaking musically but it’s just so joyous and puts a smile on my face every time.
