  1. I like this on first listen. I’m not going to obsess over how it will do - just glad it’s not Radio 2 fodder.
  2. Went for Mad’House
  3. The difference is its pre ‘94 figures… sorry still unsure whether to include these or not as it seems there isn’t necessarily an objectively accepted total anyway.
  4. I’ve said I’ll limit myself to 3 10s per year which is going to be difficult this year, and here is the first. I came 4th in the latest Bop Idol contest with this: such a beautiful song about love and loss with two alternating sections. And there’s a Chemical Brothers highlight too. Satisfyingly I can give every score from 10 to 1 to this group of 10! 10 Mercury Rev The Dark Is Rising I love everything about this: the innocent vocals, the melancholy lyrics and the hopeful futuristic orchestral interlude 9 The Chemical Brothers Star Guitar A beautiful track that feels like basking in the warm sunshine, with a vocal interlude that has a gorgeous intimacy to it 8 Pink Get The Party Started A striking and clever pop song that felt unlucky not to reach a #1: this was when it became clear she was really a star 7 Super Furry Animals It's Not The End Of The World Another very pretty and dreamy track from them - I love the "wa wa wa" riff and the warm rich orchestral production 6 Christina Milian AM To PM 1st solo hit after a Ja Rule feature for this US RnB pop singer: the raspy baseline is great and it's quite a punchy chorus 5 Elton John This Train Don't Stop There Anymore The second single from "Songs From The West Coast": not his most exciting song musically but I do really like the lyrics 4 P Diddy Featuring The Neptunes Diddy There'll be other Neptunes produced songs coming with this fun percussive beat: the D-I-D-D-Y parts I care for less 3 Wheatus Wannabe Gangstar/Leroy Their 3rd and last Top 40: both quirky but slightly irritating songs and have only enjoyed "Teenage Dirtbag" from them 2 Live Element Be Free Only hit for this DJ act, sampling Belinda Carlisle's 1991 hit "Live Your Life Me Free"; I don't enjoy the vocal distortion 1 allSTARS* The Land Of Make Believe I'm not at all keen on the sickly sweet Bucks Fizz original, and this seems to be attempting to copy it more or less exactly 2002 Week 5: #1121 02/02/2002 Enrique Iglesias Hero 1 {1}-1-1-1-2-3-3-8-12-14-17-23-28-29-33-33-40-47-61-73R(263)-63R(170)->21 #1122 02/02/2002 A1 Caught In The Middle 2 {2}-3-7-11-21-28-41-47-52-45-52-74->12 #1123 02/02/2002 Britney Spears Overprotected 4 5-{4}-9-12-18-26-38-41-50-49-69-72->12 #1124 02/02/2002 Ja Rule Featuring Ashanti Always On Time 6 {6}-6-6-10-14-18-24-27-32-36-48-59-72->13 02/02/2002 Flip And Fill Featuring Kelly Llorenna True Love Never Dies {2002} 7 {7}-7-10-17-24-32-47-57-66-56->10 #1125 02/02/2002 Afroman Crazy Rap 10 {10}-15-17-27-33-47-68-75->8 #1126 02/02/2002 Kaci I Think I Love You 10 11-{10}-12-18-23-35-46-49-62-71->10 #1127 02/02/2002 Dirt Devils The Drill 15 {15}-21-27-42-63-68->6 #1128 02/02/2002 P.O.D. 5. I guess the idea is to end up with songs that people mostly know in some form - if nobody knows the song in the first place the fact that it’s a cover doesn’t mean so much. Jim’s point is interesting though.
  6. It feels like this one is finally starting properly now all the obvious duds are gone! I’m going for Christina - it’s my least favourite of the otherwise very strong run of 5 singles from “Stripped”.
  7. The bridge is well and truly burned: this was Fergie’s 1st solo hit, reaching #3 in September 2006 but disappearing from the chart quickly. She followed it up with the much more long running and rather gentler on the ears hits “Glamorous” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry”. 6th: Fergie - London Bridge 17/30 votes (57%) 7th: Craig David - Hot Stuff 12/28 votes (43%) 8th: Vanessa Jenkins and Bryn West featuring Sir Tom Jones and Robin Gibb - Barry Islands In The Stream 21/35 votes (60%) 9th: Ronan Keating featuring Yusuf - Father And Son 13/30 votes (43%) 10th: Leon Jackson - When You Believe 12/35 votes (34%)
  8. Diamonds aren’t forever as the artist formerly known as Chipmunk, now Chip, exits. This was the 3rd single from his debut album and first Top 10, peaking at #6 in July 2009. The feature was also Emeli Sandé’s first chart appearance. 9th: Chipmunk featuring Emeli Sandé - Diamond Rings 7/30 votes (23%) 10th: Son Of Dork - Ticket Outta Loserville 15/31 votes (48%)
  9. Going for the glorious “Glorious” 🥰
  10. Far from being trouble, Amy very narrowly misses the final. “You Know I’m No Good” was the 2nd single from what would become one of the biggest selling albums of all time. The song peaked at #18 in January 2007 and was one of five to enter the Top 40 the week she died. 3rd: Amy Winehouse - You Know I’m No Good 12/30 votes (40%) 4th: Bob Sinclar featuring Steve Edwards - World Hold On (Children Of The Sky) 12/28 votes (41%) 5th: Mya - Case Of The Ex 10/34 votes (29%) 6th: Missy Elliott - Gossip Folks 17/32 votes (53%) 7th: U2 - Electrical Storm 15/34 votes (44%) 8th: Jamelia - DJ / Stop 11/32 votes (34%) 9th: Nickelback - Photograph 13/34 votes (38%) 10th: Chuckie & LMFAO - Let The Bass Kick In Miami Girl 14/36 votes (39%)
  11. Yep Alien Ant Farm’s is one of the few genuinely good classic covers. For what it’s worth I’d also put the Fall Out Boy one way ahead of either of the 2 in Soundclash #1.

  18. They would be new entries (for 2025 YTD purposes).
  19. For the 5th week in a row there’s a re-entry…
  20. I don’t like either - actually going for 5ive as at least they did something different with the song.
  21. Voting seems much slower since the site move for some reason! Aside from the fact that everything is currently tied we’re going to need much more than 15 votes.
  22. It’s been hanging around #80-85 doing about 9k per week, so not leaving anytime that soon. This week’s ChartsPlus is delayed FYI so the update will be a bit late.

  24. I should have done a guest vote for this - I don’t feel I have the bandwidth for any more contests but actually I often enjoy listening and voting more than participating anyway. From listening to the top 8 or so, Dan is definitely a worthy winner but my favourite is Jade’s!
