Deadpool & Wolverine
Thought this was great to be honest. Lots of laughs, throwbacks and great new to reintroduce a few characters to the MCU. I’m not a fan of the multiverse stuff, so good to see this film kind of sewed the seeds for that storyline being tied up. It works with Deadpool and more self contained movies. Was a nice fitting send off to the FOX era too, did enjoy that mid credits scene! Unfortunately had all of the cameos spoiled for me but didn’t take too much away from the experience! Does anyone reckon there was anything in it with the Thor holding Deadpool bit? Or as it a soft play on Spider-Man/Iron Man in Avengers? Kind of shows Feige has still got it and knows how to please the crowd!

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
Starmer's in a no win position really and it helping during the summer recess break probably isn't helping (was he on holiday when this first all kicked off? I'm sure I read that..). Not ideal. Think he;'s fairly authoratitve and to be honest, the fact he's only really getting criticism from the far-right probably shows he's probably doing the right thing. Most of the prominent critics from both the left and the more liberal right have been fairly quiet. It's a fine line as you have to allow people the right to protest, but then equally finding those protests that have the possibility to spill in to trouble is incredibly difficult. Certainly shows that social media needs some form of regulator imo as now we have the 'don't believe the MSM' wacks now believing anything and everything that's posted on the internet.

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
Think the likes of Farage and Tice are only interested in making money, they ate just puppets from the likes of the US. Ultimately, a lot of these people want to take us back to the "good old days", that Project 2025 ideology think tank isn't too far away from what I suspect a lot of powerful people would like the West to return to.

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
Was quite telling too that Priti Patel distanced herself from everything. In a weird way from a political angle, I think this shows the decisiviness of getting in to bed with Reform. Seen a few Tewitter clips of Farage getting tetchy and basically admitting he used Andrew Tate and other fake news sites as news sources. Be interesting to see if this plays a part in the Tory Leadership as much as the Conservatives can clean to the right, I am not sure the majority will lean to the very far-right. This whole immigration debate is ending up very much like Brexit, where certain powers are deliberately getting involved. There's a clear difference between immigration and small boats/asylum seekers, but the far-right want to merge the lines.

Summer Transfer Thread 2024
Think that's a great deal for Athletico - and probably a good one for City too. He's far too good to not be starting 90% of games.

Keely Hodgkinson
Kerr is nowhere near as likeable though, Keeley gives off humble vibes whereas Kerr is way more arrogant and unlikeable (although personally I think this is a trait athletics needs!).

PARIS 2024 | Athletics
Duplantis is actually insane - what he is doing is incredible and he's so far ahead of his competiton it's crazy.

PARIS 2024 | Athletics
Happy Lyles won, as much as he is arrogant (a proper trait of track & field stars) I think he's box office. Looking forward to seeing Duplantis tomorrow!

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
That's what they want you to feel. It's utterly shameful. Can fully understand your view of not feeling safe, but this is exactly what these people want. The best way to beat bullies is to stand up to them. Most of the people instigating this hatred would shit their pants if someone stood up to them properly. The arrests will come, it will take a while, but the good news as there is so much social media footage they'll get a lot of them. I think it took 1-2 years to work through the backlog of the 2011 riots .

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
It's never been about the poor girls murdered, it was pure opportunis. Yaxley-Lennon has been stirring up trouble for a few weeks and the stabbings just provided an opportunist moment. In a way, it's probably a good thing the likes of Lush and Greggs are being attacked, as those that feel some sympathy or understanding, completely turn to the other side. While it's making noise, it's still small numbers of people in the grand scheme of things. Yaxley-Lennon has lost the plot in Twitter tonight and even the Daily Mail has told Twitter where he's staying. The irony of someone wanting British justice living off an irish passport from Cyprus is not lost. He'll be arrested the moment he steps foot on British soil.

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
The 2011 riots were way worse, there was a lot more damage and widespread fear, although those riots kind of burned out quickly. The difference was, those were actually riots, whereas the current trend appears to be protests, but with the aim of being riots, so less intense but of course social media plays a way bigger part these days. I think this current trend will eventually fizzle out over the week, but clearly there's some real work politicians need to do.

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
These people are absolute pussies. They talk but they won't do anything - the way these thugs act is they go for group trouble rather than attacking individuals. For all the noise at the moment, I think if anyone was being randomly physically or verbally abused most common people would step in.

Marchand is an absolute machine, jeez. Looks like he's a cut above everyone else.

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
That's a really bad and lazy sterotype yourself and others are using here. Much like how people are believing immigrants to be behind every single piece of lies, peddling this myth is how the State got to cover up Hillsborough. You'd see 10x the violence walking out the streets in a town/city nightlife than at a big football game. Of course Hooliganism still exists, but it's nowhere near the same problem it was in the 80s, which is down to education and better policing. Associating this gang of EDL w*n**rs as footnall hooligans is such a lazy stereotype. Agree with Steve here - the hot weather is a contributing pattern, it's quite a common thing when these pockets of violence occur. Clearly here we're being peddled fake news by a hostile foreign state and the likes of Yaxley & Reform are stoking the fire to fit their narrative.

PARIS 2024 | Combat Sports
Agreed. Personally I am against Trans women competing in sports - I don't think it is fair. However in this case, I think it is being deliberately stirred up. Not sure Algeria is the country that would regularly promote a trans athlete? I could be completely wrong here, but pretty sure the country is very conservative.

Man United Supporters Thread
I think that would be the plan longer term but seems mad to throw him in and start him as first choice at 18. I’d have expected him to be phased in throughout the first half of the year.

Man United Supporters Thread
Gone to Como! Toro’s injury just seems to be one of those unfortunate ones. I’d be shocked if he started the season as 1st choice anyway, surely will be Maguire and Martinez.

Squid Game • Season 2-3
Season 2 returning on December 26th and looks like Season 3 in 2025, so everything must be shot back to back. Be interesting to see the episode counts with the show ending after S3.

Southport Tragedy / Subsequent racist attacks
First of all, what a horrible attack. My heart goes out to those poor children, the other injured children and all those people who will bare the mental scares of what they witnessed for the rest of their lives, especially the organiser of the class. I really hope she’s supported and pulls through. The left were so desperate for this to not be an immigrant and the right were so desperate for it to be an immigrant. It’s absolutely abhorrent how the extreme right have peddled this to fit their agendas. The melts were complaining about police officers being attacked last week, now they’re doing the same things, absolute melts. Bunch of disgusting yobs, egged on by the softer political side of Reform but it’s a lesson that to combat this wave, there’s going to have to be a lot of working with each other even if political ideologies differ slightly! The misinformation seems to have been peddled by Russian bots.. all very worrying. Furthermore how has that state Lennon-Yaxley started getting funding again? Didn’t hear a peep for years and now he’s all over the shop. Absolute arse of a human being that bloke.

Huw Edwards named as BBC presenter at centre of scandal
I’d be absolutely shocked if he serves a day in jail. He shouldn’t be made an example of because of his profile, but even reading what he’s admitted he’s done, I’ve seen far, far, far worse and they’ve not been sent to jail. Community service way more likely, plus admitting guilt means a lesser sentence in itself.

2024 Conservative Party Leadership Election
She’s popular with the members, bit like Truss, who was also a terrible speaker.

Huw Edwards named as BBC presenter at centre of scandal
It was the fecking Sun and it was dreadful what they did. The Sun will do anything to sell papers. I think Iz put it brilliantly above. And not defending the guy or anything, but we also have no idea if these charges relate to the same person or completely different people. The stuff is deliberately vague

2024 Conservative Party Leadership Election
Not sure that would happen. I feel Badenoch and Patel are the two that would totally sell out to Reform, which would improve their electorate chances. Think the only way the Tories win the election is if they sell out to Reform.. I'd say Tugendhat is the only one who could pull a 'Starmer' although I don't know how he would fight off Reform.

The Official Labour Calmer Steering Thread (mk III)
Interesting one today! The 22% for junior doctors looks a great deal. Must say I’m liking the idea of pay the people and scrap the projects. That being said, looks like some tough cuts are coming. Don’t believe for a second this is a return to austerity (otherwise we wouldn’t be having substantial public sector pay increases) but going to be hard for Labour to navigate this. Does look at this point the 2nd NI cut the Tories put through was a political ploy to bait Labour to increase it again.
