iTunes Chart: May 2011 (IV)
We need the UK acts to start releasing at once. I'm sick of the American R and B nonsense clogging the charts. I really wish this country respected Europe and Australia a lot more than the US. About time we started to cut ties with them.

Instrumental Top 10 Singles
Didn't the Eastenders theme tune make the top 10?
-
The Only Way Is Essex - Series 2
This piece of crap winning a Bafta shows how stupid the UK public are for voting it. I could understand if "Gypsy Wedding" won as that has a side to it which is informative and gives us an insight on their lives....this however is a fake piece of nonsense,

Parade - Perfume
Can't see this doing well. "Louder" fell out of the charts in a matter of weeks, this will be lucky to make top 40. Plus is it me or do they look like a bunch of tarts?

Does The Lazy Song have a CD out?
It just seem a bit offensive as Bruno Mars is obviously mixed race. Not that I object or anything, as monkeys and gorillas are my favourite animals.

Perhaps the re-entries are bought by people who want the old Gaga back ;)

Does The Lazy Song have a CD out?
It's like that at the one in Wolverhampton and Coventry - as soon as you walk in, there are the physicals.....although it is usual all the fiX-Factor $h!te and it's affiliates and some obscure charity record which made #101 or something. The Brum one only has a small section for physicals, again the same with perhaps the odd vinyl of an obscure Indie act. Also not meaning to sound P.C. but isnt the cover and the video a tad racist with the monkey masks?

FLASHBACK CHART - W/E 24-05-2003
Didn't he have a relationship with an under-age Aaliyah? Plus wasn't there a scandal with a tape where the girl was under 16? I don't know whether I crossed wires as the age of consent is probably 18 in the US?

RETROCHART - W/E 18/05/1991
It makes me sad when I go through all of these charts from the 1990s and realise how even unknown acts and different styles do well. Now it is who has the biggest fan base, too much of the same genre and hype machines frontloading sales. I reckon someone like Bruno Mars would fail miserably in a 1991 chart......

RETROCHART - W/E 18/05/1991
01.Cher - The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)- I quite like this, and "Mermaids" is a great film :) Haven't seen it years though.... 02.KLF Featuring The Children Of The Revolution - Last Train To Trancentral - This is one of the most epic songs of the 1990s. 1991 was the year of the KLF. 03.Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman (La Da Dee) - Oh God, this song got on my nerves, though I probably annoyed family members with the "la da dee" bits back in the day (I was 6 ;)) The thing is, this would be a good song with better lyrics. 04.Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Sailing On The Seven Seas - Catchy and a good song 05.Cathy Dennis - Touch Me (All Night Long) - Another classic from this year. Very catchy and a good one to dance too 06.Beverley Craven - Promise Me - This song is beautiful. A gorgeous ballad by a beautiful voice and woman. 07.Zucchero Featuring Paul Young - Senza Una Donna (Without A Woman) - This one is OK 08.Blur - There's No Other Way - Very early 90s Madchester stuff.....very OXO Family inspired video. 09.Electronic - Get The Message - Indie number. 10.Soft Cell Featuring Marc Almond - Tainted Love - Needs no introduction. I do like it, even if it is overplayed. 11.Chesney Hawkes - The One And Only - No thanks. The film was good though.....haven't seen that in a loooooooooooong while 12.Roxette - Fading Like A Flower - This is decent - like a lot of their output. 13.Seal - Future Love (EP) - Don't know it 14.T-99 - Anasthasia - Some weird club type track. 18.Frances Nero - Footsteps Following Me - A very decent motown influenced mid-tempo track :) 19.James - Sit Down {1991} - An early 90s classic 21.Dannii Minogue - Success - Horribly outdated now, but this is a great song. 24.The Waterboys - The Whole Of The Moon {1991} - It's allright. 26.Amy Grant - Baby Baby - I quite like this. Very simple pop song an catchy 27.Color Me Badd - I Wanna Sex You Up - :puke2: Thing is, none of them were shaggable! 30.Samantha Janus - A Message To Your Heart - The studio is way better....................live - ewwwwwwwwwwwww 31.T'Pau - Whenever You Need Me - I like this one :) 32.Madonna - Rescue Me - Not one of Madge's best 35.REM - Shiny Happy People - :puke2:

iTunes Chart: May 2011 (III)
I just don't see the appeal in him. His lyrics are cringey and his voice is just like any other soul singer. He isn't the music marvel people make him out to be.

That Lady Gaga song is poor. She died for me after "Alejandro" :( Not happy that Bruno Mars is #1 - his feeble songs are for desperate people to try and get laid too.

This might be of interest to the thread; Aneka's followup "Little Lady" which is much better than "Japanese Boy" and has a mysterious quality to it. This sadly made nr 50: YkhtbOGDaCk Also "Ooh Shooby Doo Doo Lang" which was not released here, but a small hit in Germany. The quality of this production would make you think this was from 1992 not 1982! ipg2qlr_9Ls

Music Purchases This Week: Week Beginning 2/5/11
The Feeling - "Set My World On Fire" Shame this song with a summery vibe has gone along un-noticed, with people prefering that feeble tosser who is Bruno Mars.
-
Lady Gaga album first week sales
Less than 50K. Honestly, I can see her finishing 7th or 8th in the album charts in the first week as the two weak singles from this album have put people off. The other outcome is a Christina's "Bionic" result......#1 then #20odd the week after.

iTunes Chart: May 2011 (I)
Amen!!! Keep Adele then that would be a perfect chart, and the variety we are crying out for!!!!!
-
iTunes Chart: May 2011 (I)
No, No, NO!! Please not David Guetta #1. The man is a one-trick pony ditto with that Bruno Mars. Considering there are some strong releases this week such as Blue, The Feeling which actually have a tune and melody to them and sound individual, people just want to buy the same generic track by number these artists always produce. One positive - Alexandra Stan is moving up the charts :)
-
Is popular music at an ALL TIME LOW???
I don't think what helps is, there is too many similar sounding artists. There is a lack of variety and it seems radio stations will only pick up on a) those with the big fan base and B) the in thing being hyped.

RETROCHART - W/E 06-05-1995
01.Oasis - Some Might Say - Nah, not keen on this song. 02.Take That - Back For Good - Easily one of their best songs. 03.Boyzone - Key To My Life - Not for me sorry. 04.Bobby Brown - Two Can Play That Game {1995} - Mid 90s floor-filler, still sounds good today even if he is a nasty piece of work. 05.The Outhere Brothers - Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle) - HATE this with a passion. Boom, Boom, Boom was worser. 06.Tina Arena - Chains - Powerful ballad, very strong voice this woman had. 07.Paul Weller - The Changingman - The "ModFather" returned with a very decent track 08.MN8 - If You Only Let Me In - JLS of the mid 1990s.....perhaps this is where they get their inspiration from? It was no "I've Got A Little Something For Ya". 09.Bryan Adams - Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman? - Drippy ballad from a boring film. 10.Bjork - Army Of Me - I'm a bit indifferent to like this, but the video did freak me out to this as a 10 yr old child! 11.Perez 'Prez' Prado And His Orchestra - Guaglione {1995} - From a Guinness ad. More of a party piece. 12.Weezer - Buddy Holly - Memorable song and video. 13.Brownstone - If You Love Me - I adored this song!!! Soul was at it's peak in the 1990s. Much better than the whores and wannabees we have now. 14.(MC Sar And) The Real McCoy - Love And Devotion - Eurodance by numbers. Not as good as "Another Night" 15.Let Loose - Best In Me - Boyband ballad. Nothing special. 16.The Wildhearts - I Wanna Go Where The People Go - Very catchy song. Some sort of anthem 17.Love City Groove - Love City Groove - Our ESC entry in 1995. I liked this! Not the best in that pre-selection, but we got a modest result and this is when we sent contemporary songs (e.g. Frances Ruffelle, Gina G, Imaani and Precious) 18.Runrig - An Ubhal As Airde (The Highest Apple) - I don't know this. 19.Corona - Baby Baby - Shame the girl in the video never sang on the songs. Was a huge fan of Corona, and I do love this song. 20.Joshua Kadison - Jessie {1995} - Drippy ballad 21.Grace - Not Over Yet - Another mid 90s club classic. 22.Supercat Featuring Jack Radics - My Girl Josephine - Some sort of reggae track. I remember it being played on "The Box" - back then it was public choice and regionalised. 23.R Kelly - The 4 Play EP - Don't know. 24.Mark'Oh - Tears Don't Lie - A strange track...A Eurodance version of "When A Child Is Born" but it's fairly decent! 25.Strike - U Sure Do {1995} - C L A S S I C    26.Deuce - I Need You - The song that was 3rd to Love City Groove. Very Steps-esque and I think this could have gone top 3 in Dublin that year. This was my choice along with Sam Fox in that pre-selection. 27.Pato Banton With Ranking Roger - Bubbling Hot - Reggae number which was popular. 28.Gems For Jem - Lifting Me Higher - I don't know 29.The Stone Roses - Fools Gold '95 - At the risk of being shot down in flames, I don't like this *hides* 30.Bucketheads - The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind) - 70s influnced dance track. Nothing special. 31.Portishead - Sour Times {1995} - Classic 32.Mark Morrison - Crazy - Obviously not as memorable as "Return of the mack". 33.Adina Howard - Freak Like Me - I love this version, but the Sugababes did put this into another dimension. 34.Snap! Featuring Summer - The First, The Last Eternity - Meh. 35.Scarlet - I Wanna Be Free (To Be With Him) - Weren't these two lesbians? I know their songs were a bit anti-men, but this was a very good rock ballad. 36.Thunder - Castles In The Sand - Don't Know 37.Shabba Ranks - Let's Get It On - SHABBA! Don't know the song. 38.Winx - Don't Laugh - I remember this being about two minutes of laughing to a dance track. Used to scare me. 39.Del Amitri - Driving With The Brakes On - Don't know it. 40.Terence Trent D'Arby - Holding On To You - Don't know it.
