  5. Finally, topping the chart, an American rock band who have sold millions of records world wide. Not only was this hope achieved, they also managed their second Top 10 hit. From then on the band managed a further 13 entries 3 of which were Top 10s and the last of which was in 1996. By 1996 the band had 8 Top 40 albums and sold over 20 million copies. However their success was limited to Canada, France, US and Japan as their highest peak anywhere else in Europe was #62 in the UK with "Don't Stop Believin'". In 2007 music charts accepted any song that was downloaded, not just singles. So now retro singles and album tracks were now allowed into the chart is they sold enough. It was this new addition combined with the use of "Don't Stop Believin''" in the final scene of The Sopranos that helped Journey re-enter in the Irish chart. The song was then adopted by The Waterford hurling team in a bid to win the All_Ireland hurling championship which, combined with it's growing cult following saw it enter into the Top 10 in 2007. The song hung around for 63 weeks. In 2009 the song re-entered again after the use of the song by X-Factor Finalist Joe McElderry and it's appearance in the pilot episode of "Glee". The song has the longest non-consecutive chart run in the Irish Top 50 ever. Worldwide the song has sold in excess of 7 million copies. As of 2012, the band have sold over 80 million albums. However the talk of the show wasn't the winner, the talk of the show was the interval act. Bill Whelan composed the music "Riverdance" to which Chicago native Michael Flately lead a seven-minute piece on choreographed Irish dancing which began a world-wide craze or Irish dancing and Celtic music. The instrument was released in the UK & Ireland and stayed #1 in Ireland for 18 weeks and reached #9 in the UK. The show was performed at the Royal Variety performance and In Radio City Music Hall. In 2000, New York's Broadway commissioned a performance and the show opened for a year. Whelan, who had produced songs for U2, Kate Bush and Van Morrison, focused all his attention to Riverdance before calling it a day after winning a Grammy and a Life Time Achievement Award. Riverdance is the second highest selling single of all time in Ireland. Hits That Could Have Charted: rhis was his only release. 8/10 - Longest ever stay at #1 and 2nd highest selling song ever! That is definitely a hit, however Whelan was technically a composer not a singles-act. He worked more as a producer than for is own solo-exploits. Because of this it's hard to say whether he deserves a 10/10 or not.

The Grammy nominated "Iris" was produced and earned them their second US Top 10 hit. The song topped charts in Australia, Canada and Italy as well as Top 10s in Belgium, Ireland and Netherlands. The song has re-entered in 2006 and 2011 due to it's use in reality TV talent shows. The song has been covered many times by different acts. Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne and The Wanted all performed it while on tour. 2010 saw the release of Goo Goo Dolls' seventh album. No follow-up. They lose the 0.5 on the off chance they write another song for a movie and chart with it. Until they disband, they won't be a full 10/10.

By 2008 they had released their first album "Conditions". The album went Top 10 in Australia. Their lead single "Sweet Disposition" performed better in the Uk and Ireland than it did in Australia due to it's use in the movie (500) Days of Summer, an advert for 4Music and an advert for The Good Wife. The song also charted in The Netherlands, Japan and Italy. 2 subsequent singles were released from Conditions but never made it to the Irish Top 50. Temper Trap's self titled second album reached #25 in the Irihs album chart but non of the singles off it entered. Hits That Could Have Charted: 2010: "Fader" #47 (Australia) 2010: "Love Lost" #32 (Australia) 2012: "Need Your Love" #39 (Australia) 2012: "Trembling Hands" #42 (Australia) 9/10 - as is the case with many acts on this chart it's a bit too soon to call. But the failure of the second album indicated that temper trap won't be making a new appearance.

The Austrian dance duo appeared for 40 weeks in The Irish chart despite not even charting in the home country. Hits That Could Have Charted: 2004: "Make My Body" #42 (Austria) 10/10 - I'm not going to lie, I have no idea, why or how this song ever entered the chart. The only other chart record they have anywhere in Europe was a #42 entry in Austria. The duo have very little details available anywhere on the net. So it's safe to say that Klubbhoppers won't be making any sort of re-entrance any time soon and are therefore 10/10.

However it was when Guinness used the version by Perez Prado in an advertisement the song re-entered earning Prado a posthumous #1 in Ireland. The song was prevented from achieving the same title in the UK by Robson & Jerome. The use of hi song "Mambo No. 5" in another Guinness advert aided Lou Bega in getting a #1 hit with it's cover. Prado had died in 1989 aged 72 so never got to see its success. Hits That Could Have Charted: this is only release since the charts began in 1962. 4/10 - It's unfortunate that Prado appears on his list because the height of his career existed before this chart did. He had 2 Top 10 hits in the UK in the late 50s which were sure to have been hits in Ireland as well.

The song also topped charts in Canada and Germany as well as Top 10s in 9 other countries. The song which was written about steeplechase runner Delilah DiCrescenzo sold over 4 million copies. Since their breakthrough Plain White T's have released 2 albums both of which featured Top 40 singles in the US. Hits That Could Have Charted: 2006: "Hate (I Really Don't Like You)" #53 (UK) 2007: "Our Time Now" #37 (Canada) 2008: "1, 2, 3, 4" #27 (Germany) 2010: "Rhythm of Love" #38 (US) 8/10 - I believe that the Plain White T's won't end up being one hit wonders. Especially with the new Top 100 available, there new album will probably render a hit that will reach the Top 100. They have been unlucky that "1,2,3,4" and "Rhythm of Love" haven't charted. Unfortunately there's no promise of there's next album, so until then they'll remain one hit wonders.

So it is no surprise that the song charted in 12 countries worldwide. In Ireland the song last 26 weeks in the chart half of which were in the Top 10. This was not The Rembrandts first hit. There debut hit "Just The Way It Is Baby" went top 10 in Europe and #14 in the US. Even though the band never split, they reformed in 200 but only released Greatest Hits since then. They have been working on new material while helping write for bands such like the Plain White T's.
