  1. Cian'S Monthly Review: September 2012 September is over and everyone is back at university. But it's time to look back at the month that saw me finish up at work and start back at university. September had a plethora of brilliant new albums out but I wasn't able to cope with the constant on coming surge of new albums so The Killers & Mumford & Sons will be expected to chart in October. Albums on high rotation were "The Truth About Love" by P!nk, "Beacon" by Two Door Cinema Club, "Chapter V" by Trey Songz. The first of which landed P!nk her first #1, a play short from the 100 plays milestone. My favorite tracks off the album also managed to chart in the Top 10 tracks of the month as well. Throughout the month, Two Door Cinema Club were the tough competitors for the title but lost to P!nk at the last minute. Their new album "Beacon" topped charts in Ireland and on my weekly plays as well. Unfortunately I didn't feel "Beacon" lived up to the splendid debut album "Tourist History". Trey Songz falls three places as Chapter V notched up plays at the beginning of September. I bought "Looking For Myself" by Usher off the back of the release "Dive" which happens to be our #1 on the monthly track chart. This help see Usher into fourth place, held from the Top 3 by Shakira, who, thanks to the release of addicted to you and her pregnancy hype makes it back to #3. I bought tickets to Maroon 5 who play the O2 in June, and preparation for that gig sees them notch up 52 plays this month, completing the Top 10. Icelandic folk band Of Monsters and Men see their album "My Head Is An Animal" help them to #7 off last week plays alone. This success should continue into October. Last week's #1 and #2 fall to #9 and #11 respectively which isn't too bad considering Chris Brown fell to #55 after his #1 in July. However he is back in the Top 30 at #12. His total weeks in the top 30 now up to 20/21. This is the joint highest out of all artists, joint with Kanye West who happens to be one place after him at #13. Brazilian pop sensation, Gusttavo Lima is the only debut into the chart this month, however some artists see their first time into the Top 30 for quite some time, and in some instances, their first time. Britney Spears and Muse, Bastille and Shy'M see their first glimpse of the Top 30. Whereas Rebecca Ferguson and Royseven re-entry this month. Finally, although plays drop by 15% this month, the plays of the Top 10 are the highest since April as we see almost 50% of all plays within the Top 10. This is the reason so many artists are up on % plays. Total Plays this month: 929 down 15.85% Top 30 Artists http://i47.tinypic.com/r94qhd.png TW (LW) Artist - Plays (%TW %change) 1. 10. I do download illegally but I do support artists by buying their albums and going to their concerts. If everyone only downloaded music legally the industry will become much more difficult to get into. I like many others illegaly download songs I wouldn't regularly hear on the radio and that helps these artists become mainstream.

  15. Cian'S Monthly Review: August 2012 Autumn is here and The Vaccines become the second act to top the monthly review twice. The first being last month's number one, Chris Brown, who surprisingly knocked The Vaccines off their first #1 last March. It's interesting to point out that the first month that Chris Brown has not been in the Top 30 since the chart began is this month, a month after he was #1. He is currently at #55. Along with top of the artist chart, The Vaccines have two entries in the tracks chart at #6 & #8. Topping the tracks chart is Jake Bugg with the brilliant "Lightening Bolt", despite tough competition from Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift and Frank Ocean. Frank Ocean sees himself debut at #2 this month with 71 plays, an amount which would have landed him #1 if this was the same time last year. His album channel ORANGE was the most played album of the month aswell. At #3, climbing an impressive 41 places is Trey Songz, whose climb is off the back of the release of the new album Chapter V. Bruce Springsteen and Lykke Li also see Top 5 success as both their Greatest hits and Wounded Rhymes album respectively got regular play. Wiley's new single "Heatwave", along with his back catelogue see him jump in at #7. Marina & The Diamonds keeps her position at #8 beating the Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs who debuted at #9.
