Westlife promise 'strongest album yet' 11 Aug 2009 By David Balls, Music Reporter Westlife have promised that their upcoming ninth studio album will be the group's strongest to date. The Irish boyband, who have not released any new material for two years, (partly wrong! their last release of original track was 2008) insisted that they will surprise fans when they return later this year. "The album will have no covers at all - we want it to be our strongest ever," Shane Filan told the Irish Daily Mirror. "We're working on it in the studios at the minute and it's really exciting. We took a decision that we didn't want to do any covers at all this time round and give the fans 100% new material. "We know this has to be something special because we have been away for over a year. I think everyone is going to be really surprised when they hear it." Guy Chambers, former Savage Garden star Darren Hayes and Ryan Tedder, who penned Leona Lewis's 'Bleeding Love', are all rumoured to have contributed material for the new record. "We're lucky to be working with some amazing writers and I'm sure this album is going to bring us back with a bang," Filan added. "We want great up-tempo songs and some really strong ballads. That's what we made our name with and that's what we want to do again. "The plan is to release the album before Christmas and then hit the road for a tour next year." Westlife have sold over 40 million copies of their nine previous albums, seven of which were bestsellers in the UK. Credit/Source: www.digitalspy.co.uk
  4. Louis' nameless girlband record their first single 11 Aug 2009 By Melanie Finn Louis Walsh'S girlband hopefuls are immersing themselves in a studio this weekend as they record their first eagerly awaited single. Although the line-up for the sexy group was revealed last January and they nabbed a ¤1m contract with Song BMG a few months later, the band still hasn't released any material -- and hasn't even got a name yet. But it seems that the girls are finally getting some proper studio time, judging by lead singer Jodi Albert's latest news to her fans. Writing on her Twitter page, she revealed: "In a really funky studio today, with candles and incense. Recording a kick-a*se song, can't wait for you guys and gals to hear it." A source revealed Louis plans to coincide the girls' debut material with Westlife's return to the scene. The source said: "Louis is determined to wait until the time is right before launching the girls properly. "He doesn't want to push them into the spotlight before they're ready. "He knows they have what it takes but they need to be mentored properly -- the same way Simon Cowell managed Leona Lewis. "There's no point putting a band out there until they're polished and have their songs and routines down perfectly." Kian Egan's new wife Jodi (25) is the best known of the group, alongside You're A Star runner-up Sharon Condon (23). The line up is completed by newcomers Corrina Durran (22) Leigh Learmont (19) and Kasey Smith (19). Even though Louis has been immersed in filming the new series of X Factor, he's determined to give his acts 100pc once he has some free time. He even refused a $1m TV deal to co-host an American version of X Factor as he reckoned it would take up too much time. The Mayo local has declared how his "bands always come first." He said: "An American X Factor has been mentioned -- but my job as manager is what I do first. "My priority for the next year is going to be Westlife and the girlband. Westlife's new album is number one on the list, and getting the girls out there." mfinn@herald.ie Credit/Source: www.herald.ie / Published on 08.08.2009 / www.westlife.gr

NO MORE COVERS 05 Aug 2009 Stocking stuff... Westlife's Shane Filan is looking forward to the band's new album at Christmast. The singer has promised it won't contain a single cover version. Gulp... WESTLIFE VOW LATEST ALBUM WILL BE 100% NEW MATERIAL EXCLUSIVE by Paul Martin Westlife have promised fans their new album will have no cover versions as they bid to launch the ultimate pop comeback. The stars - who have topped the charts with their versions of songs such as Mandy, Uptown Girl and Against All Odds - have given the first insight into their new material to the Irish Daily Mirror. Singer Shane Filan revealed: "The album will have no covers at all - we want it to be our strongest ever. We're working on it in the studios at the minute and it's really exciting. We took a decision that we didn't want to do any covers at all this time round and give the fans 100% new material. "We know this has to be something special because we have been away for over a year. I think everyone is going to be really surprised when they hear it." Westlife first released a cover in 1999 when their version of Abba's I Have A Dream scooped them the Christmas and new Millennium No.1 slot. In 2000, they teamed up with Mariah Carey to release a cover of Phill Collins' Against All Odds, which secured them a world wide No1. A year later, their cover of Billy Joel's 1983 hit Uptown Girl secured them another top spot before they released a version of little-known Northern Ireland band Relish's Hey Whatever. Barry Manilow's Mandy notched them up another hit in 2003 before their monster anthem You Raise Me Up also went to No1. Shane added: "We always prefer to release new material but we never had the luxury of a Gary Barlow-type song writer. "But we're lucky to be working with some amazing writers and I'm sure this album is going to bring us back with a band. "We want great up-tempo songs and some really strong ballads. That's what we made our name with and that's what we want to do again. "The plan is to release the album before Christmas and then hit the road for a tour next year." The four members of the world's most successful boyband, Westlife, faced the congregation to sing a solemn version of 'You Raise Me Up' in tribute to Kian's father, Kevin, who died of cancer last Sunday. "Myself and the guys would like to sing this song for my dad. I feel the words of this song really represent the type of man my father was," said an emotional Kian at his father's Requiem Mass in Sligo Cathedral. And when Kian struggled to fight back the tears as Shane Filan sounded the opening lyrics, he felt the comforting arm of Mark Feehily around his shoulders. He was finally composed enough to join in a roof-raising final chorus of the moving song which gave the band a number one hit. Then as the last notes still lingered in the hallowed arches, and the congregation wiped away the tears, pals Mark, Shane and Nicky embraced their grieving friend. Beloved Father-of-seven Kevin died in the arms of his beloved wife, Patricia, and surrounded by his children and grandchildren at his home on the Strandhill Road last Sunday morning. "Dad died at home in mommy's arms as she was saying 'I loved you from the moment I first saw you, and I will love you for always'," his daughter Vivienne said. In a moving tribute, she said her father encouraged all his children to be the best people they could be. "He loved everything to do with all the Westlife things that happened over the years." But she said her father was so proud of all of his children, "whether they were a Westlife singer or a parent or school teacher". Kevin, who was in his mid-60s, was too ill to attend Kian's wedding to former soap actress Jodi Albert in Barbados last May. Leading the mourners yesterday were his wife Patricia, daughters, Vivienne, Marielle and Fenella, and sons Kian, Tom, Gavin and Colm. Westlife manager Louis Walsh joined hundreds of mourners in the church to pay his respects. Later, Kian left with the cortege, with his new wife Jodi by his side. They headed to his father's final resting place on the Strandhill Road, not far from the family home that had been a gift from Kian several years ago. - Anita Guidera Credit/Source: www.independent.ie

  19. March 30, 2009 KIAN'S JOY AS HIS GIRLS SIGN MULTI-MILLION EURO POP DEAL KIAN'S JOY AS HIS GIRLS SIGN MULTI-MILLION EURO POP DEAL; ALBUM AND SINGLE SET FOR END OF YEAR WESTLIFE'S Kian Egan was celebrating last night after his girl group sensations clinched a massive multi-million euro contract with music giants Universal Records. The girls landed the lucrative deal at a meeting in London on Wednesday - and burst into tears when told the news. The band, which includes manager Kian's fiancee Jodi Albert, are now set for a big album and single launch at the end of the year. They were summoned, accompanied by Kian and co manager Louis Walsh, to the meeting with record company executives who had watched them perform. And when they were told that they had hit the jackpot with the multi album deal the girls broke into floods of happy tears. A source close to the group revealed: "The girls couldn't control their emotions - they have worked so hard for it for so long. "They were huddled into a room in Universal and they sang a couple of a cappella songs for the record boss. He loved it and offered them a deal on the spot. It's been months of hard work but it's paid off." Jodi Albert, who shot to stardom on TV show Hollyoaks, will now focus on her lavish May wedding to Kian in Barbados. The couple have struck a lucrative deal with OK! Magazine for pictures from the big day. Kian proudly told the Irish Daily Mirror last night: "We're thrilled to have signed the girls to a deal - it's absolutely brilliant news. "They have put in so much work and given it their best shot and now they have the reward. "There's going to be a lot of hard work from this point but the girls are up to the challenge." Louis added: "It's absolutely fantastic news. We're going to have a very exciting and successful group on our hands. "The girls look and sound great. They are the full package." The stars in the making - Jodi, Leigh Learmont, Sharon Condon, Corrina Durran and Kasey Smith - are being tipped to take the music world by storm with their stunning looks and powerful voices. They will now begin working on their first single and album and will be groomed and styled by the top image consultants in the showbiz world. The band look and sound great. They are the full package.
  20. Louis Walsh vows to launch his girlband to stardom By Melanie Finn Tuesday January 27 2009 Louis Walsh has lined up a meeting with some top level music s in a bid to secure his Irish girlband a lucrative new deal. Although the fivesome got yards of publicity when they were chosen from hundreds of hopefuls last year, they still have no name or a record contract. But the Diary can reveal that the X Factor judge has turned his full attention to the girls now that the hit show has ended, and is determined to get them the best deal possible. Speaking from his Miami apartment, the Westlife manager explained how he doesn't expect the new girlband to have any problems getting signed up. "I've organised a couple of meetings with some record utives for the start of next month, there's been plenty of interest in the girls so I expect to see something happening there shortly," he explained. Ambition "They're five very talented girls and they all look great together. They also have plenty of ambition, so getting a deal for them shouldn't prove too much of a problem. I was just too busy before now with X Factor and everything else but the next few months will see things moving for them." The Mayo mogul went on to say how he is already considering several possible songs for them to release as their debut single, with top songwriters clamouring to write material for them. He's flying back to Ireland this week after a month-long holiday in the Florida resort of Miami, where he bumped into stars such as David Walliams and Matt Lucas, but added how he "hates coming home". He also has his sights set on securing some international exposure for the girls, with plans to meet record utives from some top British companies. And to ensure they were really ready to make their big debut, he made sure they spent weeks rehearsing their vocals and their dance moves before unveiling them on the Late Late Show shortly before Christmas. Answer Co-managed by Westlife's Kian Egan, the girls are being hailed as the Irish answer to Girls Aloud, despite not having released a song yet. That's all set to change, though, with 2009 expected to be the year that sets them on their path to stardom.
  21. Rocking Around The Clock 05 Mar 2009 BEAUTIES WORKING SO HARD Exclusive - We go backstage with Louis and Kian's girl group By Paul Martin It's a tough job - but someone has to do it. Pop mogul Louis Walsh and Westlife star Kian Egan invited me to spend a day with their new girl group sensations - and it was least of hot pants, lip gloss and sexy ...oritas (can't make out the word from the scan sorry ) to behold. To date the group have been shielded from the media as they rehearse around the clock in bid to land a big money record deal. But yesterday Louis and Kian lifted the wall of secrecy exclusively for the Irish Daily Mirror as the girls prepared for their latest record company showcase. The stars in the making - Leigh Learmont, Sharon Condon, Kasey Smith, Corrina Durran and Kian's fiance Jodi Albert - are being poped to take the music industry by storm with their stunning looks and wonderful voices. I hook up with them, but they've already run up for four hours going through their dance steps ahead of the performance for a top London record executive. "You wake up with butterflies in your tummy," says Jodi, who is looking stunning in skinny black jeans and an off-the-shoulder top. "But the excitement on a day like today is huge." "We were up till midnight practising and now we have 15 minutes to nail the performance for this guy." Kian then dashes over to invite me into their rehearsal room at the Tripod club where a stage, full lighting and sound system has been prepared for the girls. "I have been pushing them with my contacts," admits Kian. "But there is only as much I can do for them. Ultimately it's up to them to show they have what it takes to be the next big thing." Jodi and the girls then leap up onto the stage and announce through the microphones: "This is a special private concert just for you Paul. We hope you like it..." The music strikes up and the girls burst into a cover version of Stars Turn Blue, swaying their hips and lifting the roof with their impressive vocal powers. It's already clear to me the girls have the full package and the looks department. They then whizz through renditions of Drops Of Jupiter and U2's anthem All I Want Is You. They look flawless to my untrained eye but Kian sees things differently. "I need you to give more of yourselves," says Kian. "And you need to be more aware of the space around you." The girls take a break for well-earned tea and coffee but Kian is working away. He grabs tables and chairs and moves them around the room to seat the record company when they arrive. Meanwhile, Louis makes his entrance, carrying a bag packed with business papers as he prepares for another day in the office. "These girls are great and they have an edge about them," he tells me as he gives the girls some last minute advice. "I don't want them to be like Girls Aloud or The Saturdays - they need to be something different - we're going for a Corrs and Dixie Chicks sound." The record company executive arrives hot off the plane from London. The girls nail their performance and Kian seems delighted. The executive tells them: "There is something special about you girls, I like your look and clearly you can all sing." It's a great reaction but the girls won't find out for a few weeks if he wants to sign them. It's been a long and exhausting day but the hard work is not over. "We will grab something to eat and then probably rehearse to midnight," Jodi says. "Then tomorrow we will do it all over again." If, as Louis says, 90 per cent of success in the music world is down to hard work, then these Irish girls are on to a winnder.
  22. It's D-Day for Louis' lasses 11 Feb 2009 EXCLUSIVE WALSH'S GIRL BAND PERFORM FOR EUR1M RECORD DEAL IRELAND'S hottest new girl band faces a EUR1million D-day today as they try to land a massive record deal. The pop group, formed by Louis Walsh and Westlife star Kian Egan, will perform for top record company bosses in Dublin in a make-or- break audition. Top industry sources say a number of major labels are already planning to launch a bidding war to sign the sassy five some, fronted by former Hollyoaks star Jodi Albert. After having been locked in rehearsals in the city Jodi said they were ready for action. She added: "We are all nervous but very excited. We will have to see what happens but we couldn't have practised or tried any harder. "We have been rehearsing 12 hours a day most nights. We are exhausted but we want to give it everything we've got. "It's the chance we've always dreamed of and this is a really important day for us." Jodi is joined by Leigh Learmont, Sharon Condon, Casey Smith and Corrina Duran who made the grade after five gruelling rounds of auditions before Christmas. Louis said the group, whose name has not been finalised, would be a sophisticated act with broad appeal. He added: "We want them to have a mature sound. "They could be something on the lines of Destiny's Child with the influence of The Corrs. These girls have a lot of talent and they work hard. "I can see them going far but it's early days and we have to get a big deal in place first." A music industry insider added: "These girls have the X Factor and everyone in the business has been talking about them. "There is a real buzz and they are expected to land a big deal." Jodi and her fiance Kian have been doing much of the work behind the scenes at the group. They've also been busy organising their wedding in the Caribbean in May. They have signed an exclusive picture deal with OK! Magazine and have invited their showbiz pals to the big day. Credit/Source: The Irish Daily Mirror - 02/02/2009

Rush He has kept the third storey of his house as a massive party room of 3.000 square feet. The band will jet to Los Angeles shortly where they will begin work with a host of new producers and songwriters. However, they've made it known that they are not in a rush to release a new album this year.
