  1. If you're not sure, it's best to just submit and we'll get back to you if there's a problem, it won't be super strict, just make sure it's not too well known as a song. (ie. not super high streaming figures or has an existing fanbase on here)

    imaduck contest coming again?
  3. Indeed, that's 32 signed up now which may well be a participation record assuming everyone confirms (which I'm sure you will do given the threat of my banning powers ;-)), Wonderful to see *. I can also reveal that one decade now has every year represented!
  4. Just to say, I'll allow one change of numbers if anyone is struggling (I will then reallocate that year so that number will have a new year behind it), of course, you may risk something even more difficult, so up to you x (I would hope no one would need to do this but just in case)
  5. Of course, welcome along! Just pick a number and I'll send you the year

And I really tried to time this so I didn't clash with another song contest... It's cool though, think I have a good one x

  8. Welcome to the 13th edition of The Best Song in The World...Ever! For this edition, we will be exploring all that the 20th Century has to offer, every contestant will be allocated a given year between 1960 and 1999 and they must find an entry from that year. With an additional category for pre-1960 music for one lucky soul x Every year has been randomised and put in a pot, to take part, you simply need to post a number in this thread between 1 and 41 (inclusive), I will then PM you with your allocated year. As this is an anonymous contest, you must not say what year you have until you are revealed in the results thread. You have free reign with whatever you send from this year (and there are so many genres and styles to pick from so do give it some time), but it must've been either recorded or released in your given year, it doesn't have to be a single, B-sides, album/EP tracks and even demos are totally fine. Due to the limited nature of the some of the years, UK top 40 hits are allowed but no top 10 hits. You must ensure that your track is not too well known or has a significant following, especially on the forum, the moderators will veto any entries they feel are too well known and may have an unnecessary advantage. Please also try and avoid entries sent to a previous song contest on this site. Once you have found an entry, please confirm using this Google form. You have a week to get your entries in until Thursday April 16th at 23:59 (though if people feel they need more time with this theme, I would be open to an extension by a day or so into the weekend) If that's all clear, then let's spin the wheel...Please pick a number between 1 and 41 to be allocated a year (and if someone could please pick me one as well x)

  10. Pump Up The Volume would definitely be in the top 10, I love the story behind it and it's such an important song in terms of what was to come for house music. I can't imagine how hard a song with that many samples was to get released in those days, really something special. I have a soft spot for Never Gonna Give You Up, it's a charming song with nice strings even I can't think of anything other than the memes with it, Rick completely owning and embracing the meme these days is great to see. Love Stand By Me, a total classic and stunning vocal performance. The film is being re-released this weekend as well!
  11. That was me not reading the post in full, sorry x 🤪
  12. I assume the song for the next round had to have been released as a single?
  13. Rosalia's been an artist that I really should've got more into for a while now, so I've finally gotten around to listening to her studio albums (barring Los Angeles, admittedly was sticking to the breakthrough ones but I'm open to checking that one out), El Mal Querer and LUX really struck me with their great performance and diverse influences mixed with great conceptual storytelling and MOTOMAMI had some excellent experimentation and diversity present, LUX in particular has an utterly beautiful first half and the array of languages she studied as well as the verges into opera were fantastic, BERGHAIN would've made my top 10 of last year had I heard it then. Such an exciting talent, I'm sorry I was late to the stan train for her recent era but I'll be on board for the next one x Anyway, I knew she was either Jade or Bre here, and it's been great getting acquainted with her stuff here in tandem with my own listening, I wasn't certain she'd make the live shows after being knocked out to Chappell (just realising these two were in the same duel and are knocked out together!) so wonderful that Berghan's timely performance allowed it! I'm glad Chappell got a chance to show her two best songs with The Subway and Good Luck Babe, and most of the choices have been pretty good, I'm surprised she was out this round, I guess it was the strength of the pack, I didn't mind this one though, had an interesting structure.
  14. we have chosen ageism and xenophobia this round -__
  15. I did wonder if I might be at risk given Pagasa and Wholune didn't vote in the semis and it seems I did only just scrape it :o Thanks Semi 2 for being a bit kinder x
  16. Well, congrats dandy! A spoken word poem based on a sociopolitical allegory is not something I'd ever expect to translate to BJSC success, but I'm so pleased to see that indeed being that unique is all you need, wonderful to see my 18 win and surely going down as an all time classic winner. Thanks for the last few big votes from Pagasa (was worried you wouldn't vote!), Trifoski and Ennea amongst others, 22nd (pending Brer investigation) is excellent to see especially when I got blanket bottom 10 predictions, it was a bit of a random entry when I couldn't find anything, but it's a cult classic so pleased to see a good reception. I may well finally have a 2026 entry next time so let's see how that goes x Great to see Greenfroze stay top 5, always love piano instrumentals and glad they have a solid fanbase here and this Ashton entry was their best in a while. Dalisska and Danaeviia in the top 20 is good to see but otherwise, a lot of my votes are a bit lower than I'd have liked, Aeroche are really getting robbed these last few contests x Thanks John for the great hosting, loved the aesthetic of the final x
  17. An 18 yay *. Thank you DB, I'm pleased to have not been bottom 10 yet, could well still fall there but this seems to have gone better than I thought. Rather surprised to see Greenfroze as high as 2nd (not quite 750/1 to win!), but here for it.
  18. I want it to be known I had a visiting rat present Terra Avium's votes x That's a great run of votes just now along with Jadakissnia's 15 earlier, thank you all x And yeah, maybe Fljo is landsliding this after all!
  19. Wow, I didn't think they'd cancel the whole festival, a real shame for those acts that would've needed the profile boost but no sympathy with the organisers, when corporations are taking the moral high ground, you've definitely messed up.
  20. Well that was timing to start this thread! BBC NewsKanye West travel to UK blocked by governmentWest was due to headline London's Wireless Festival in July but drew criticism over past antisemitic comments.
  21. I do agree that Wireless really mucked up here - they were clearly looking for controversy with that headline spot, and it's really backfired, one night they might have got away with, but all three is ridiculous when they only did that once last year (arguably also fairly controversial with Drake headlining, although not on the same scale as this). I can't see how they'll keep this going with all these sponsors pulling out. He's an artist that has long become too foul a person for me to really separate it from his music, but he is very mentally unwell too, I don't believe he's beyond redemption, but I do think it's too soon for him to headline a festival, especially as his HH comments were only last year. I think he'd need to do a lot more to convince the public that he's really changed.
  22. (Feel free to move this if this is in the wrong place, but it is getting a lot of news coverage atm) Kanye West's has been controversially booked to headline all three nights at Wireless festival in July, when little over a year ago he has been rather openly anti-semetic, praising Hitler and offering merchandise saying the same. It hasn't gone down particularly well, to put it lightly, with the prime minister saying it's a deeply concerning booking, huge sponsors like Pepsi pulling out and even some talk about whether he can re-enter the UK. West has apologised since the statements and has put it down to his bipolar condition and states he's in a better place. The festival organisers have stood by him for now, but the pressure's mounting. What's your takes on this, should art and artist be separated when it comes to booking acts or is this going just a bit too far?
  23. Gosh, there was a lot of number 1s in 2009, I didn't quite register it was that many! 2009 was quite a significant year for me, I sat my GCSEs and finished school and travelled round the US in the summer (It was certainly a lot more appealing to visit then x), I have a lot of memories of the music, and was more able to use some of my pocket money to actually buy albums and singles. Can't disagree with any of these so far - I do prefer The Finalists' You Are Not Alone to Hero, but the bar is on the floor and it's still terrible, I think everyone was a bit more aware of the cynicism there as the sales for that one were much lower. I never watched Gavin & Stacey, so Islands in the Stream was always just a karaoke cover, doesn't have the same charm as the last two Comic Relief unofficial singles so I see why that was the last one to make number 1. There is a certain other charity single still to come which I have a softer spot for. Joe/X Factor didn't exactly make it difficult for themselves to target with that utterly insipid choice of song and cover (much as I hate Hallelujah, it was at least a fairly inspired choice of song), that series really was headline central every single week even before the campaign, though Joe was always a dead cert to win and all the more boring for it.
  24. Flow is probably one of my favourite movies of the last years, I know Oscar hype certainly helped it, but it's amazing to see an animated film with no dialogue do so well. It's a shame Bring Her Back hasn't matched Talk To Me's gross, but I suppose it's still a good outcome for it, their brand of brutal horror is very refreshing. Sally Hawkins definitely deserved some award attention for that performance x Warfare was also quite unfairly forgotten about for Awards season, in all technical aspects, it was absolutely stunning.
