Our deep sea team will take over for the last hour, but we will still accept any straggling entries before tomorrow evening at around 5pm. The Animalian handover should commence shortly after following approval.

Radio 1's Sound Of 2025
Doesn't really matter if they're abiding by rules, it's transparent what they're doing. As good as some of those acts are, that list is pretty depressing. You have TWO Mercury Prize winners, a Grammy award nominee and one of the most successful and talked about pop stars of the last year with a number 1 album and two huge top 10 hits, how inspiring! This list is supposed to promote up and coming music and acts that need the exposure, with how difficult it is for new artists (bands especially) to break through these days, it's really sad that rather than go for new names, they just go for artists that will get them the most coverage and not make the list irrelevant. There are so many under-the-radar artists that could've used those slots and it's quite sad they've been denied that. Pleased for Confidence Man getting a spot nonetheless, they feel like a band that has been gradually breaking through for a while now.

(Love Like I Used To btw  (Van Etten's current new song, Afterlife, is great too) but not surprised at the veto, that received some very strong critical acclaim and was a lot of music publications' best song of the year oops x)

The Middle East Today
Overdue but good news, feels like a step forward to ending this conflict. I anticipate the usual crowd will *still* try to make a narrative that Israel are completely innocent and just defending themselves somehow...

Record of the Decade: 2014-2023 - The Final Results
Aww, 31-40 would've made a great top 10, still very good placings for a lot of those in seemingly a more alt-friendly year, I will miss Prayer in C from these, it's that rare very profound dance track.

Round 3: Year End Survivor #100
I did quite enjoy the Robin Schulz remake of Greatest Day used in Anora recently, actually gave it the decent payoff it deserved. The original though always feels like it's building and building to nothing and was overplayed to the max.

The Final: Year End Survivor #98
Romeo to win, though Smiley Faces is underrated and pleased it made it this far.

Round 6: Year End Survivor #99
Think it's gotta be Green Day as much as I love it for the sake of a new winner as these are all great songs.

US Hot 100 #1s: Best & Worst / Week 8
Best: Barry Manilow - Mandy Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting KC And The Sunshine Band - That's The Way (I Like It) Minnie Riperton - Lovin' You Van McCoy & The Soul City Symphony - The Hustle Worst: Silver Convention - Fly, Robin, Fly The Staple Singers - Let's Do It Again Several boring songs, but these two particularly felt they went absolutely nowhere.

Boybands Forever
Just finished this and it was a really interesting watch - They couldn't have known, but coming so soon after Liam Payne's death does make this especially thought-provoking and shows that lessons haven't really been learned (which does sort of contrast against the optimistic feeling they went for at the end). While there definitely could've been more scope covered with other boybands of the era, it was really interesting to hear some anecdotes, especially from 5ive and Damage, which I admittedly didn't know a lot about compared to the others and how the managers were so close in age and experience to the actual band members, and while it wasn't really shocking, it is really quite horrible the sort of blatant racism and harrassment the press did and still do, that former tabloid journalist was a particularly nasty piece of work. I think I would've most liked them to expand to the late 2000s and early 2010s when the boyband craze came back for a little bit with JLS, The Wanted and (though I know now it would be a bit of a minefield for obvious reasons) One Direction, I'd be interested given the former were an all black band that actually did manage to break through, but I'm sure there would've been some covert racism going on as well, their fellow talent show graduate Alexandra Burke certainly experienced it. Indeed, a girlband one would be very interesting, particularly as they enter into an industry which is inherently sexist so have bigger hurdles to overcome.

Anniversary Entries
For my 50th, I didn't technically use my anniversary pass as Marcus Warner's Africa would've never been vetoed anyway, but it was still representative of a sound I was into and the video had animals so it was a perfect choice, and it remains one of my favourite entries so I'm glad it came top 10. It captured the spirit of it's namesake beautifully. I did use the framework skip for my 100th, as Thomas Bergersen at that point had won and been a bit overused, and as the first person that sent Two Steps From Hell to BJSC, it had to be them, and his own celebration of a million subscribers was a world music epic that still remains one of my favourite ever classical compositions (so much I'd decided it when I first heard it in 2019 and waited three years for it to happen!), I wish it were better known as it's the perfect unifying song for world sporting events and the like. Though it still did very well, I was slightly sad it couldn't quite win as it would've been my first at the time and ever so fitting I don't often send epic classical these days as honestly these are very hard to top and it gets samey after a while, but it's clearly worked well for my anniversaries. I have always been wondering what the next one would be as 150 has been and gone for some, 200?

🐟 BJSC CLXX / Confirmations 🐟
Welcome to the start of BJSC CLXX, we begin our journey through Animalia in the underwater paradise of Terra Piscium, there has naturally been conflicts with our Avian friends in the past, but we'll agree to put them in the past for now x We welcome all competitors (providing they've remembered their gills) to explore our underwater paradise and walk through our many colourful tropical reefs and parks that have discounted shoal tours and come and witness the visiting true inhabitants of a clownfish and a blue tang that travelled across the world's ocean. Your safety is our top priority and we have employed additional shark security for this event and we advise caution, especially when venturing to the deep sea and keep valuables safe, as angler crimes remain a risk to inhabitants. The ancient wreck of Poseidon's Voyage is the setting for competitors to submit their entries, before diving right in, please ensure you are keeping with the rules of the contest below: - Please ensure you are familiar with the general BJSC rules - Before you can enter, you must register a country if you are new. Your account must be more than three months old and you will require a Google account. - Please check that your entry has not been sent before, and ideally not to another song contest in the wider Buzzverse either, you can find the list of past BJSC entries here - All entries are subject to approval by the moderators who have a right to veto your entry if they feel it is too well known and not in the spirit of the contest. Please try to be inspired and send something others may not know. You are advised to check the Veto framework to ensure your song is acceptable. Any entries in violation will be sanctioned by our Jellyfish vetting team and risk being banished to the deep. - You cannot confirm a song by last month's top 3 artists (Father John Misty, Rebecca Black or REIN). The artist must not have an artist forum on Buzzjack and cannot be the same artist you sent last month. - Terra Avium will autoqualify for this contest and in the event of an even number of participants, Runners up Hendinia will also qualify. - Elëdan, Kyriatine and Ramrynia sadly must return to dry land and come back next month due to not voting in last month's final. - Please keep things anonymous until the semi thread goes up Please confirm your entry here You have until Thursday 21st November at 23:59 GMT to confirm, take to the seas! Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas? (2024 Ultimate Mix)
30 felt half-arsed and this even less so. As overstuffed as 20 was, I did appreciate that they tried new, contemporary genres at the time, they had an opportunity to build on that with 30, but it was a damp squib and this seems...almost entirely unnecessary, not even new artists? Can't see it getting near number 1 unless it gets a real push, it seems to just be a hollow 'event' release now which defeats the original concept.
