  1. Yeah, that is pretty much all my main favourites out oops, I guess there's a glass ceiling to these indie songs and that is still a great position for Metric & Wolf Alice  (wonder what happened last year with that?) I do still enjoy all of the top 10 though, Faded's huge love here did seem a bit Buzzjack-unique but it's one of my favourites as well so I always loved it, shame to see it fall back a bit x
  2. Well I'll be different then #CrazyFrogtowin S Club Juniors x

  4. Hello and welcome to the semi finals of BJSC 170! We hope you enjoyed your time with our gilled friends in Terra Piscium and we welcome you to the gresat Lake Endothermia and associated national park is the historic halfway point between Terra Reptilia and Terra Amphibian. The oldest and most historically rich nations of Animalia. Starting life as the main point of the Tyrannical yet fascinating rule of the ancient Dinosaurs, Terra Reptilia has undergone a dramatic and sometimes brutal transition over the years, starting as a Totalitarian superstate before the historic Frog Partition caused a centuries long war and tension that has nonetheless been resolved peacefully and the historic Treaty of the Cold Bloods both nations stand as independent Animalian countries (that's enough with the creative writing project, Ed.). Home of many Animalian heritage sites, there are many fascinating, atmospheric sites to explore across the borders. It's cold here so ensure you're wrapped up warm and while we pride ourselves on safety, we do recommend you watch your step and water in some areas are out of bounds to tourists It is on this historic that this comparatively smaller scale song contest will commence, where below you will see the competitors challenging for the 20 slots in the final, before we start, please take a minute to crawl through the rules: - Terra Reptilia and Amphibian have each hosted a semi, please slither away to the one you are in and only vote in this semi. As autoqualifiers, Terra Avium and Hendinia will vote in both semis. - Vote for your favourite ten entries by PMing me (Chez Wombat) your ten favoured songs in Eurovision voting style (12 points for favourite, then 10 points, 8 points and 7 through to 1). Do not vote for yourself - Voting closes on Friday 29th November 23:59, late votes may be accepted but at my discretion so don't throw a hissy fit (you're fired ed.) and will be with a 15% deduction. Non-voters will have a 33% deduction to their entry Without further ado, we present your songs x ๐ŸŠ AQ ๐ŸŠ Terra Avium ๐Ÿ Hendinia ๐Ÿข ๐ŸฆŽ Semi 1 ๐ŸฆŽ 01 ๐ŸฆŽ FARC ๐ŸฆŽ 02 ๐ŸฆŽ Aeroche ๐ŸฆŽ 03 ๐ŸฆŽ The Spodic Empire ๐ŸฆŽ 04 ๐ŸฆŽ Cor Lupus ๐ŸฆŽ 05 ๐ŸฆŽ Altyr Muunilinst ๐ŸฆŽ 06 ๐ŸฆŽ Kathaldazia ๐ŸฆŽ 07 ๐ŸฆŽ Eastovka ๐ŸฆŽ 08 ๐ŸฆŽ Harmonica ๐ŸฆŽ 09 ๐ŸฆŽ Jupiterdonia ๐ŸฆŽ 10 ๐ŸฆŽ Hushkanukia ๐ŸฆŽ 11 ๐ŸฆŽ Hinterlandia ๐ŸฆŽ 12 ๐ŸฆŽ East Rukahavian ๐ŸฆŽ 13 ๐ŸฆŽ Ultraviolenceland ๐ŸฆŽ 14 ๐ŸฆŽ Herbilore ๐ŸฆŽ 15 ๐ŸฆŽ POPHub ๐ŸฆŽ 16 ๐ŸฆŽ Macromia ๐ŸฆŽ 17 ๐ŸฆŽ Singerpurear ๐ŸฆŽ 18 ๐ŸฆŽ Cadelicia ๐ŸฆŽ **Strobe Warning** 19 ๐ŸฆŽ FSR Rontvia๐ŸฆŽ 20 ๐ŸฆŽ Danรฆviia ๐ŸฆŽ 21 ๐ŸฆŽ Pestolia ๐ŸฆŽ 22 ๐ŸฆŽ Greenfroze ๐ŸฆŽ 23 ๐ŸฆŽ New Lexico ๐ŸฆŽ 24 ๐ŸฆŽ Sรฉyetana ๐ŸฆŽ 25 ๐ŸฆŽ Ben's Sanctuary ๐ŸฆŽ 26 ๐ŸฆŽ Mothertopia ๐ŸฆŽ 27 ๐ŸฆŽ Fljรณtavรญk ๐ŸฆŽ 28 ๐ŸฆŽ Sovarasma ๐ŸฆŽ ๐Ÿธ Semi 2 ๐Ÿธ 01 ๐Ÿธ Persephonia ๐Ÿธ 02 ๐Ÿธ Scotland 2 ๐Ÿธ 03 ๐Ÿธ Bรธtanikkรค ๐Ÿธ 04 ๐Ÿธ Taahino ๐Ÿธ 05 ๐Ÿธ Land of DW ๐Ÿธ 06 ๐Ÿธ Cheiron ๐Ÿธ 07 ๐Ÿธ Kluminican Republic ๐Ÿธ 08 ๐Ÿธ Ojnoj ๐Ÿธ 09 ๐Ÿธ Trifoski ๐Ÿธ 10 ๐Ÿธ Neliรถnoir ๐Ÿธ 11 ๐Ÿธ Wholune ๐Ÿธ 12 ๐Ÿธ Dobago ๐Ÿธ 13 ๐Ÿธ Zanmatony ๐Ÿธ 14 ๐Ÿธ Summericia ๐Ÿธ 15 ๐Ÿธ Rรฉpublique d'รskorza ๐Ÿธ 16 ๐Ÿธ Utopia ๐Ÿธ 17 ๐Ÿธ Ajanaeda ๐Ÿธ 18 ๐Ÿธ Cumulonimbia ๐Ÿธ Social Order - Miss You 19 ๐Ÿธ Bronzil ๐Ÿธ 20 ๐Ÿธ Conoria ๐Ÿธ 21 ๐Ÿธ Thelonia ๐Ÿธ 22 ๐Ÿธ Jadakissnia ๐Ÿธ 23 ๐Ÿธ Rolloland ๐Ÿธ 24 ๐Ÿธ Sandรฉnia ๐Ÿธ 25 ๐Ÿธ Aesthetica ๐Ÿธ 26 ๐Ÿธ Skall ๐Ÿธ 27 ๐Ÿธ Lotunia ๐Ÿธ 28 ๐Ÿธ Lookylion ๐Ÿธ *** Let's Goooo
  5. Aaron Smith - Dancin (KRONO Remix) (feat. LuvLi) 25 - original version of song peaked at #20 in the UK in 2006 (only charting song for both artists) 25; this remix released in 2014 - peaked at #98 on global Spotify in 2019 (did not chart in any of the 'major music markets', biggest success came from Mexico and Brazil); notably song was certified gold and then platinum in the UK in the 2020s primarily driven by this version - appeared in 4 personal charts, none of which are current BJSC participants - ~1.27 billion streams on Spotify between top 2 versions (both this remix, #1 and #2 in artist's current top 10 with other versions making up the rest of his top 5)
  6. ^Be very quick (and not cheap) as closing soon! I'll give you until half 5, but gonna close it for good after then. Hoping to still put this up tonight depending on speed of reconfirmations, speaking of, time to go back to the surface for one of you...
  7. Our deep sea team will take over for the last hour, but we will still accept any straggling entries before tomorrow evening at around 5pm. The Animalian handover should commence shortly after following approval.

Doesn't really matter if they're abiding by rules, it's transparent what they're doing. As good as some of those acts are, that list is pretty depressing. You have TWO Mercury Prize winners, a Grammy award nominee and one of the most successful and talked about pop stars of the last year with a number 1 album and two huge top 10 hits, how inspiring! This list is supposed to promote up and coming music and acts that need the exposure, with how difficult it is for new artists (bands especially) to break through these days, it's really sad that rather than go for new names, they just go for artists that will get them the most coverage and not make the list irrelevant. There are so many under-the-radar artists that could've used those slots and it's quite sad they've been denied that. Pleased for Confidence Man getting a spot nonetheless, they feel like a band that has been gradually breaking through for a while now.
  9. (Love Like I Used To btw  (Van Etten's current new song, Afterlife, is great too) but not surprised at the veto, that received some very strong critical acclaim and was a lot of music publications' best song of the year oops x)
  10. Following vetting from our team of Jellyfish, the following entries have been deemed unsuitable for the competition and our shark security have escorted to dry land Damiano David - Born With A Broken Heart 24 - lead singer of Maneskin. - peaked at #20 on the Belgian Singles Chart, #66 in Italy, in the top 200 of Spotify Belgium, Italy and Saudi Arabia. - featured on Clash Magazine, Dork, DIY Magazine, NME, Karrang, Just Jared, Vogue and has performed the song on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show - filed under substantial internet & TV exposure. 12 - currently at #26 in the Buzzjack Multichart, appearing in 11 members' personal charts. 12 - thread for the song also has 12 responses. Mk.gee - ROCKMAN 37 - featured on NME, Pitchfork, The Line Of Best Fit, Stereogum, Rolling Stone, NBC, MSN, Billboard etc, with a performance on SNL - filed under substantial internet & TV exposure. 12 - currently on the B-List on Radio 1. 25 Sharon Van Etten & Angel Olsen - Like I Used To 28 - Sharon has been entered once before, in CXIII, finishing 18th. 3+5 - Angel has been entered once before, in CLXVI, finishing 20th. 3+5 - featured on Rolling Stone, NME, The Line Of Best Fit, The Fader, Vulture, Pitchfork, Billboard, The Guardian etc and performed on Jimmy Kimmel's show, Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show - filed under substantial internet & TV exposure. 12 - appeared in 4 personal charts (jcwll, Doctor Blind, toffochews, bluemonday). - finished 117th in its year group in Record Of The Decade 2022 (nominated and/or voted for by Chez Wombat and Dircadirca).
  11. Overdue but good news, feels like a step forward to ending this conflict. I anticipate the usual crowd will *still* try to make a narrative that Israel are completely innocent and just defending themselves somehow...
  12. ...and just over 24 hours now before we ascend from the deep! Some of you may be in for an electric shock so keep back ups on hand x
  13. Aww, 31-40 would've made a great top 10, still very good placings for a lot of those in seemingly a more alt-friendly year, I will miss Prayer in C from these, it's that rare very profound dance track.
  14. 46 participants so far with just over two days left, our mudskippers are still searching for land dwellers yet to enter the deep
  15. I did quite enjoy the Robin Schulz remake of Greatest Day used in Anora recently, actually gave it the decent payoff it deserved. The original though always feels like it's building and building to nothing and was overplayed to the max.
  16. Romeo to win, though Smiley Faces is underrated and pleased it made it this far.
  17. Think it's gotta be Green Day as much as I love it for the sake of a new winner as these are all great songs.
  18. ...because there's definitely no sign of any cognitive decline in the incoming president whatsoever, I'm sure this will all be dealt with very quickly x
  19. Much as I like Umbreon, Vaporeon's the OG and is a hell of a great Eeveelution to have in the first games.
  20. Best: Barry Manilow - Mandy Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting KC And The Sunshine Band - That's The Way (I Like It) Minnie Riperton - Lovin' You Van McCoy & The Soul City Symphony - The Hustle Worst: Silver Convention - Fly, Robin, Fly The Staple Singers - Let's Do It Again Several boring songs, but these two particularly felt they went absolutely nowhere.

Just finished this and it was a really interesting watch - They couldn't have known, but coming so soon after Liam Payne's death does make this especially thought-provoking and shows that lessons haven't really been learned (which does sort of contrast against the optimistic feeling they went for at the end). While there definitely could've been more scope covered with other boybands of the era, it was really interesting to hear some anecdotes, especially from 5ive and Damage, which I admittedly didn't know a lot about compared to the others and how the managers were so close in age and experience to the actual band members, and while it wasn't really shocking, it is really quite horrible the sort of blatant racism and harrassment the press did and still do, that former tabloid journalist was a particularly nasty piece of work. I think I would've most liked them to expand to the late 2000s and early 2010s when the boyband craze came back for a little bit with JLS, The Wanted and (though I know now it would be a bit of a minefield for obvious reasons) One Direction, I'd be interested given the former were an all black band that actually did manage to break through, but I'm sure there would've been some covert racism going on as well, their fellow talent show graduate Alexandra Burke certainly experienced it. Indeed, a girlband one would be very interesting, particularly as they enter into an industry which is inherently sexist so have bigger hurdles to overcome.
  22. I know two of these already besides my own and they're both great picks <3 Some very interesting artist picks otherwise as well.
  23. 10cc - I'm Not In Love Donna Summer - Love To Love You Baby Eric Carmen - All By Myself
  24. All three are good, Calvin the weakest as he's had much better.
  25. For my 50th, I didn't technically use my anniversary pass as Marcus Warner's Africa would've never been vetoed anyway, but it was still representative of a sound I was into and the video had animals so it was a perfect choice, and it remains one of my favourite entries so I'm glad it came top 10. It captured the spirit of it's namesake beautifully. I did use the framework skip for my 100th, as Thomas Bergersen at that point had won and been a bit overused, and as the first person that sent Two Steps From Hell to BJSC, it had to be them, and his own celebration of a million subscribers was a world music epic that still remains one of my favourite ever classical compositions (so much I'd decided it when I first heard it in 2019 and waited three years for it to happen!), I wish it were better known as it's the perfect unifying song for world sporting events and the like. Though it still did very well, I was slightly sad it couldn't quite win as it would've been my first at the time and ever so fitting I don't often send epic classical these days as honestly these are very hard to top and it gets samey after a while, but it's clearly worked well for my anniversaries. I have always been wondering what the next one would be as 150 has been and gone for some, 200?
