  1. The PSB's aren't exactly well known for their promo and performances, so I'm not so sure that we would necessarily see any more with this single release. And of course certain sections of the press will see a Robbie Williams and the Pet Shop Boys single as him being desperate for a hit . I think he should forget about singles. If a great song like Lovelight isn't going to get to number 1, I can't see any other track on Rudebox doing it. I hope I'm wrong though
  2. Its not really a surprise to me that TT have done so well with downloads - they have one of the longest running fansites on the net and have held together a very strong fanbase and support for the guys (Robbie included). Downloads and being IT literate isn't only a younger generation thing!!! I have downloaded Lovelight a few more times (and haven't downloaded Patience at all yet) so hopefully that will help. Hopefully though the press will all be too busy watching I'm a celebrity and the X factor to comment if Lovelight doesn't make the top 10.
  3. TT are currently number 4 on downloads alone, and could potentially go straight in at nuumber 1. Lovelight has dropped to number 9
  4. They are everywhere, even on Strictly Come Dancing next week, and I don't see a problem with that. Theyve had 10 years worth to catch up on afterall. If TT do go ahead of Rob in downloads and sales with Patience it will be due to their good promotion and a brilliantly supportive fanbase, and unfortunately Rob seems to have neither at the moment.
  5. You've lost me with the reference to Mates condoms, I don't see that in the lyrics at all - all I see is mate as in friend. I don't see The Police anywhere there either - Take my Breath away is I think a reference to the theme song to Top Gun which was popular in the 80s British knights were a type of sports shoe, and troop was a brand of tracksuit popular in the 80s.
  6. It is very British, and it rings lots of bells with me from my time at Uni in the 80s BTW I never acquired a taste for Newcy Brown ale either
  7. I'm not a LIMEY, and I get them :yahoo: Its a totally fantastic song, likely to be my favourite track on the album (although LoveLight is still winning at the moment thanks to the sexy vid  )
  8. It reminds me of a Blue song, and as Gary wrote for them thats hardly surprising. I really like it. I think it will be a big hit - and as it's out at the same time as Wetlife's new one it should keep them off Number 1.
  9. If this one doesn't get to number 1 I will be gobsmacked - its being played to death on the UK music channels already - I just hope it doesn't peak too soon.
  10. Robbie has just made an impromtu visit onto Steve Wright's show on BBC Radio 2 The show is still on air, but we should be able to hear it on the listen again feature later. Steve seemed a bit confused about shaking his Rudebox :D
  11. From the Stoke Sentinel ROBBIE'S GRAFFITI LYRIC PUZZLES NORMAL FANS He may lead a Hollywood lifestyle, but the title of a track from his new album shows Robbie Williams hasn't lost touch with his Potteries roots. The problem is, not even people from his home town know what the Burslem-born singer's latest effort is referring to. Robbie's eighth album Rudebox - due for release in October - features the track Burslem Normals, described by the star's own website as "an incredible, strung out and personal electronic ballad." The former pupil at St Margaret Ward High, Tunstall, revealed on his website how he saw the phrase Burslem Normals scrawled on a wall in the town during his youth. He said: "The song is about an ideal of youth. "It is about how in the 80s and the early 90s there were so many avenues to explore and so many gangs to be a part of. "Back then we had so much choice and the Burslem Normals was a piece of graffiti from the town I was born in. I don't know what they were into, but they sound cool." The identity of the group is now shrouded in mystery, with a variety of authorities in Burslem unable to shed any light on who they were. One theory is that they were a less well-known Port Vale hooligan firm in the mould of the notorious Smallthorne Clampetts and Vale Lunatic Fringe. But former Clampetts leader Jim Ford - who is now a pastor at the Penkhull Christian Fellowship - says he doesn't remember any group by that name. He said: "I knew a number of people that were lads around that era but I don't think they had a name. They were from Burslem though, and some still get down there." Club historian Jeff Kent and statistician Phil Sherwin are similarly unaware of the Burslem Normals. Phil Sherwin said: "There is nothing definite but it sounds like a gang of people who used to go down the Vale. "I have heard the phrase but there is nothing concrete. "If it was when Robbie Williams was growing up it would have been in the 80s when things were a bit rougher." Jeff Kent said: "I have been a Port Vale fan all my life and I have never heard of the Burslem Normals." Robbie's new album is set to hit the shelves on October 23, and is set to mark a radical musical departure for the singer. It features several songs - including title track and new single Rudebox - produced by Stoke-on-Trent's own Danny Spencer and Kelvin Andrews, also known as Soul Mekanik. And the 32-year-old said the lyrics to the new single were heavily influenced by the city where he grew up. He said: "Danny and Kelvin sent me the very basic drum track and it just became a floor shaker with lyrics straight out of Stoke-on-Trent." He added: "I've always been scared to try out different things and this album I think I've lost the fear of where I should be in my head as a populist."

I prefer the original version of Iris as well, but Ronans version isn't that bad. I've seen Ronan live and he puts on a great show. He seems to be a lot more popular in the North than the South of Ireland conversely, and the sales there will of course count towards the British chart. His album seems to be selling quite well at the moment.
  13. The Mirror 3am story is almost a direct lift from the Sun, so I'm guessing that their lawyers watching comment was aimed at them (and they obviously don't give a stuff) I don't know why everyone gets so upset about Victoria Newton, its par for the course, shes always had a love/hate relationship with Rob right back to the TT days (I think she wrote for Smash Hits then) She didn't like the rest of TT much either, so tomorrows Sun story should be interesting as he's telling her what he really thinks of the other lads.
  14. Apparently he sang Shes the one acapella right at the end, just before he went off stage, but they definitely didn't air that on the UK feed. Seems we got the most edited version, they edited out most of his talking as well. Either that or we really are whinging poms :)
  15. So he did sing Shes the one live, right at the end, you were right Scotty, sorry I'm sure they didn't play it on the UK radio feed <_< The presenter here definitely said Knebworth, and anyway it wasn't at the end.
  16. On my version we had LLBYE, Kids and shes the one from Knebworth in between the live songs. They also played OBID I agree about the audience, it may just have been the radio feed, but I could hardly hear them during angels. Rudebox seemed to go down well (still liking it Scotty) Rob certainly worked very hard to get them going, I don't think he was in top form tonight though

I agree with Jesus in a campervan, Rudebox is just a side project for Rob, a bit of fun. The lyrics are clever as usual and I like the chorus, but the rapping is awful. And I don't like the video much either. I'm not so sure though that it will be a big hit just because it's Robbie - his last single Sin Sin Sin peaked at number 23 - so I've said Top 20 for Rudebox. Lovelight should be a big hit though
  18. Rudebox the song is Ok, I don't like the video much though which has probably steered me the other way. Anyway I thought this was least favourite song thread? I said I actually disliked Northern Town and Love calling earth.
  19. BTW, in the lyrics its Old school *****'s the best - I like that line too
  20. TK Maxx is best, yes Jackson looks a mess, bless I've been caught rapping that while wandering around TK Maxx  I agree Susie, don't see why MJ's fans should be upset - Eminem must have upset them a lot more than that
  21. The majority of songs mentioned so far are covers, thats probably why people don't like them. Of real Robbie songs, the only ones I can say that I really don't like are Love calling Earth, and Northern Town. There are quite a few others that I'm not keen on including Rudebox, but those are the only 2 I actively dislike.
  22. From http://forums.rwap.org and channel4.com Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams, readers. One's a curly-mopped beanpole from across the 'pond', the other is Stoke's answer to Tigger. They also happen to be two of pop's biggest ex-boyband successes. And they're both releasing rather trendy minimal 'electronic' singles at about the same time (ish). Justin's is the smouldering 'SexyBack' (are space bars like, not rock'n'roll any more or what?) and Robbie's the, er, lovely 'Rudebox'. What we wanted to know, as we gathered around the water cooler / the stereo / the bit by the bins, was this: out of the two singles, which is best? We decided by having a good old fashioned (mass) debate… In the red corner! Justin Timberlake 'SexyBack' (Jive) Released: August 28 Number of different notes played in entire song: Two. Sample lyric: "I'm bringin' sexy back / Motherf*cker don't know how to act." In the blue corner! Robbie Williams 'Rudebox' (EMI) Released September 4 Sounds like: Sly & Robbie's 'Boops (Here To Go)' meets Tetris. Sample lyric: "Up your jacksie and split your kecks." Let the debate commence! » "I didn't mind 'Rudebox' until I realised it was Robbie and now I hate it." Robbie -1, Justin 0 » "'Sexyback' actually sounds sexy, where as the word 'rudebox' is just...well... a bit stupid really." Robbie -2, Justin 1 » "Both song are about rumpo but where as it's easy to see Justin as sexy, Robbie is anything but. He looks like a tattooed McCoy's crinkle cut." Robbie -3, Justin 2 » "The Justin track is a perfect club tune as well as well as a great radio track. Robbie just doesn't have a voice that would make you want to dance." Robbie -4, Justin 3 » "My brother's step-daughter is going to be sorely disappointed when she sees Robbie going electropop at Milton Keynes. Actually she probably won't and she'll have learned the 'Rudebox' dance too, which is a worry." Robbie -5, Justin 3 » "At this stage in Robbie's career I'd rather listen to a $h!t but interesting single than a good but boring single." Robbie -4, Justin 3 » "The Justin single is amazing - second only to 'Maneater' as the song of the year." Robbie -4, Justin 4 » "Both are kind of need of a melody though (i.e. their own rather than Sly & Robbie's). Robbie's rapping is rubbish too." Robbie -5, Justin 3 » "'Rudebox' has probably the most unsexy lyrics ever, for a song about having it off. It doesn't make me want to do 'it' with him." Robbie -6, Justin 3 » "Robbie's saving grace with the song is that it doesn't sound like him. I actually quite like it. I imagine that the lady cuckolded housewives who listen to his usual claptrap will say things like, 'Oh I'm not sure about this one.' But they don't deserve opinions so balls to them." Robbie -5, Justin 3 » "'SexyBack' is soooo good. Justin's voice is brilliant as ever and the track is smouldering!" Robbie -5, Justin 4 » "Justin feels a little bit like a half-hearted 'Dirrty' to me though. Something about it leaves me a little cold and suspicious." Robbie -5, Justin 3 » "I do agree that it's slightly overlong, but when you're very drunk and flinging yourself around a dancefloor to it (as I did last week)..." Robbie -5, Justin 4 » "The whole minimal thing is fine but you have to find a way to make it exciting and good. 'Sexyback' is the better track by far but it's still a bit boring. Oh god, they've both melded into one in my mind now. " Robbie -6, Justin 3 » "I really like Justin's because it's exciting and immediate. The more I listen to Robbie's, the more I think, 'Aren't there asylums for people like you?'" Robbie -7, Justin 4 Ding ding! Seconds out etc etc. And the scores on the doors are: Robbie: a rather shameful MINUS 7. Justin: a rosy-cheeked and triumphant 4! We declare Justin the winner, and now we're all off to buy backless tops which we can wear while swearing in a husky voice. Hurrah!
  23. Its quite ironic that the only flights that went out on time today from Bristol were those going to New York - a good sign that terror isn't going to win here. Loads of holiday flights were cancelled though and its still complete chaos at the airport - apparently no hand luggage at all apart from essentials such as medicines and passports, and even baby milk has to be tasted before it's allowed through. Very very scary stuff, lets hope it all dies down by next month as I have a lot of friends coming over from the States for the Glasgow, Leeds and MK gigs. They'd probably swim the Atlantic rather than not come though :)
  24. I agree, its the best thing he's done in ages. Quite ironic really that its a cover. Mark Ronson is talking over it deliberately as he's not supposed to be playing it yet. I expect we'll get a non interrupted version soon though. I love it
  25. I love it, and I've changed my mind, I think its going to be huge. It just gets into your brain and stays there :D
