Cream always rises to the top!

Sorry, I misunderstood you. And when I said "read through the posts on here" I meant the pop forum too. I would say "surprise" is a more appropriate word than "shock". Well done him!

Why are you so shocked about Joe's album going up? If you read the various posts on here and on DS you will see that Tesco and Asda both seriously understimated his appeal to the older record buying public - such as me! It is a delightful album from a lovely young man who will, no doubt, go on to bigger and better things. And he even says he does write songs a little.
  4. What do you mean "he is not current to the industry"? The music industry is not just about pop you know. There are hundreds of different types of music. I cannot understand why people like Olly (even my own daughter!) He is awful and cannot sing for toffee!

This is probably because Tesco seriously underestimated Joe's appeal and hardly had any albums on the shelves. After Twitter campaign (or rather someone asking them on Twitter) Tescos admitted that they had got it wrong and were rushing the album out to all their stores. No idea have they?

Absolutely. However, I have never, ever seen it! I do watch ITV but I am in the south and it seems we are neglected in that instance. :(
  7. I like both versions. Katherine's voice is richer but Delta has a sweet voice in my opinion. Thanks for posting.

I am not sure that this album has had no promo - I think that Universal have been excellent in promoting Classic. He has been on BBC Breakfast, Daybreak (performance), Something for the Weekend, Celebrity Juice, This Morning (performance) and loads of others. He is on the Alan Titchmarsh Show today and Family Fortunes on Saturday. He has also done an extensive radio tour. Much more than he did for Wide Awake.
  9. And Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley! How do you know? Are you a personal friend of Joe? As it happens, I read on another website that Joe is writing songs but wonders whether they are good enough. I wish some more people would do some wondering!

By Wednesday this week (yesterday!) Joe's album sales had already exceeded the expected 30k total. More in the region of 36,000 approximately. Also it has been discovered that Tesco hadn't stocked many copies and someone from the store tweeted that there had been a massive amount of requests for the album so they were rushing copies to all their stores. Of course Joe is not now an "X-Factor act"! Obviously someone wasn't keeping their finger on the pulse at Tesco!

I have not moved on from being a Will Young fan but won't bother to come on here anymore. OK so you say the word covers. I don't really care - I would much prefer Will had done an album of his classic songs such as Berkley Square, All the Things You Are, Beat Out That Rhythm etc etc. Bye!

I hate the word "covers". Joe and his like are singing what used to be standards and his classical arias are lovely. I would rather hear an album of standards than one of songs I do not like!
  13. There is a new shop in Pyle Street in Newport which hasn't been open long (behind BHS) He seems a good bloke. It is called Just PCs.

I am still a Will fan but am sorry to say that I do not like Will's new album. I know at least one other Devoted member who doesn't like it either. :( It is very disappointing for me as I was looking forward to it. I quite like Jealousy and Happy Now but the others don't do it for me at all. "That boy from X-Factor" is Joe McElderry who I think is great. I love his new album as it is the type of singing I like. He is a lovely lad and hope he does well. I hope that Will doesn't continue in the "dance/electro" vein as I really cannot take to it at all. I tried to like it but it wasn't my cup of tea at all. There is no use posting about something on D that I have no interest in. By the way I have just posted that Will's album has probably gone gold for 100,000 units shipped. I sent my copy of the album back. :(

Today's Albums 1 Red Hot Chili Peppers 2 David Guetta 3 Will Young [Echoes] 4 Adele [21] 5 Joe McElderry Now if Will could get above David Guetta and Joe above Adele that would be great. By the way I heard that Joe's album has shipped 100,000 - gold! So no doubt Will's will have gone gold too.

Not surprising to me though. He has done a great deal of promo over the last week and today particularly, is very full on. This Morning (singing Over The Rainbow), rushing up to Blackpool to switch on the illuminations, then back down to London to perform at G-A-Y! Also I think the gold certification has boosted the sales, that and the fact that the retailers seem to have got their act together and stocked the album.

It is also interesting to note that Syco haven't attempted to apply for certification for Wide Awake at all. They obviously washed their hands of Joe quite early on! Idiots!
  18. I have a feeling there might be a single or two from this album later on. Anyway congratulations to Joe for the gold certification = 100,000 copies shipped to the retailers. Confusing I know but I have had it on good authority that this is so.

I don't understand the significance of the sums after the albums eg 5+1, 10+8 etc etc.
  20. What's wrong with that? As I understand it albums make more money than singles which are usually tied to a so-called play list which are compiled at the whim of a couple of executives at a radio station.

Thanks about that - not bad sales for an album which has been randomly stocked in various parts of the country. I think the stores and record company have been caught out by Joe's popularity.

Any sales figures for Joe McE? Thanks!
  23. I cannot understand what you mean. For a start this album has reached No.2 in the album chart while Wide Awake got to No.3. What do you mean about him not having a unique take? Singing in Italian is rather unique for a 20-year-old "geordie" lad! And singing very well indeed. I could go on but will pass for the moment.
  24. I agree that Joe has done so well and that Syco were fools to let him go. He is much better off with Universal and his album is superb. I understand that if things go to form he will be No.1 in the classical charts which are announced next Saturday. If so, he will be the youngest tenor ever to top the chart. :cheer: :D

I hope the charts remain the same or for Will's single to go up. I think Adele has had her time in the spotlight and should let someone else have a go!
