11 - ...Baby One More Time
Probably the most obvious score of them all, but I just can't get over how iconic this is. I remember the very first time I saw this video, it was either January or February 1999 (can't remember exactly, tbh). I was still on summer vacaction from school and about to embark on a new journey with high school coming my way. I loved music, mostly pop and britpop and I stanned pretty hard for Michael Jackson and Madonna, but little did I know the best was about to come: from the now iconic school-girl outfit to the on point dance moves, I was overwhelmed. It was more of an image impact at first, but it wasn't long until the music hit on me too. I was hooked on the visuals, there was no turning back.
08 - Sometimes
The follow-up. I was already a big fan and I really enjoyed everything Britney back then. Of course I loved the Sometimes video too, but more due to the 'Britney in our everything' state of mind of the time than the actual content of this cheesy beach summery teenage love affair that was the video. I don't go back to either the song or the video nowadays, I must admit. But I do remember being amazed by those legs and, well erm, the obvious bra area's sudden growth.
10 - (You Drive Me) Crazy
One word: Sabrina!!!! It was sort of impossible not to like Sabrina back then (at least for me anyways) so watching her along my new music hero in the same video was a magical moment! I also remember the very first time I watched this video, my initial thought was "YASSS, Baby 2.0" (I don't know why, cause they were nothing alike, but I was only 12 so bare with me). I was excited about upbeat Britney back then, especially when she seemed very eager to showcase her voice and ballads from what I was gathering from interviews at the time. Once again I enjoyed the dance moves the most, and I was very in love with that bubblegum chewing waitress look from the intro.
10 - Born To Make You Happy
It took me a couple of years to watch this for the first time. Here's the story: back in 1999/2000 internet was much much different from what it is now, youtube was nonexistant and it was virtually impossible to watch videos outside MTV (yes, MTV played videos nonstop back then). Hard luck this was a European only release, therefore we got From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart instead of this (such a travesty!). The very first time I got a glimpse of this was in November 2000; the 2000 MTV Europe Music Awards aired and Britney was of course nominated. For one of her nominations, while presenting the nominees a snippet of Born To Make You Happy was played and I remember myself thinking "YES, IT DOES EXIST!") (back in late 99/early2000 Argentinian radios were claiming the song was going to be released at some point but it never happened -_- ). Then some time later I got the opportunity to find a link and download the video, and I really loved it and couldn't get over how good it was. My favourite scenes (again) are the dance scenes with her on that red top, I found it similar to the oops! look back then but it really has not much to do with it thinking about it now.
06 - From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart
I must admit I can't gather much of this in present day. Admittedly, I was over the heels for this video when it was released, but I was a 12 year-old with a 100% level of stanning (believe me, I'm still at 100%, but I'm 29 now so you do the math on how everything has changed). The typical 'you left me when I loved you the most' romantic story with a teenage taste of affairs, I must admit I got over this pretty quickly (by the time the Oops! frenzy came upon us, to be precise). What I really like the most about this video is her shorter hair looks and the girl next door vibe she had in it with her jeans and hat. The windmill scenes are very beautiful too.
09 - Oops... I Did It Again
If we were in April 2000, this would've gained an 11/10 from me. But since I'm taking this rate as a trip down memory lane combined with my feelings for the videos these days, I think a 9 is a pretty nice balance of both states of mind, especially when I'm comparing my thoughts at 13 and 29  The story behind this video was at the time the most interesting of any Britney video ever released (she only had 6 by then anyways). The red catsuit is iconic nowadays, but the whole Mars theme was the most entertaining and original thing I'd seen in a video that year (until Robbie's Rock DJ appeared in August). My favourite scene/look though is the white outfit and Britney laying on that circle bed (?) while delivering some serious sexyness and armography.
09 - Lucky
Predictive much? We all know now how accurate this was without even having an idea of what was to come. Perhaps that's why this is so special for Britney fans, I don't know if we would be so attracted to this song and video if it wasn't for her 2007's breakdown. One thing is for certain, though and it's how beautiful she looked on the video, from the fairy look, to the Hollywood superstar and the red carpet pop starlet, she rocked in true primeney style. My favourite part is the first glimpse of bitchy Britney we would ever get, with her playing the part of a stuck up actress claiming she filmed a specific scene "a million times" with serious annoyance.
10 - Stronger
If only I could award more than one video an 11. Let me take this opportunity to say thank the Universe for Joseph Kahn, and thanks the Universe for Joseph Kahn working with Britney. As a director he's amazing in his own way, but I seriously haven't seen his work upper the level of brilliance he achieved with the videos he made with Britney (and a lot more are still to come).
When I thought it was hard to topple herself, Britney came back with the mini movie that was Stronger, and from the stormy credits "BRITNEY SPEARS STRONGER" passing through the fierce as f**k black widow-ish look to the slayage that was the choreography/chairography, I got chills actual chills watching this for the first time. That was it, the very best video ever made was before my eyes (watch this space for the very same feeling after watching Toxic for the very first time).
06 - Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know
Being a sex goddess and showing her incredible body on a beach was enough for this, but I must admit I got bored of it pretty quickly and was ready to move on to the next era by then. It was Britney like we'd never seen her before, with that bikini top and the denim shorts, but the guy kissing her and hugging her all the time was really annoying for me. I couldn't bare anyone touching my girl in such a sexual way  All I wanted was to see her on that tree being sexy as hell.
08 - I'm A Slave 4 U
HOT! HOT! HOT!... The very first glimpse of raunchy Britney and that was it. I was very happy to see her in such a Janet Jackson vibey visual, and also her body was at the very peak in terms of fitness, I've never seen her look better since then. My favourite part is when people find out is raining and go running to the balcony, but not Britney! She's still a slave to the music, so until the song doesn't end, she won't stop dancing y'all... LIKE THAT! :P
06 - Overprotected
Not a very good video by Britney standards, but the choreography was amazing and the crotch-grabbing gave me chills... the fierceness was real. I admit I don't go back to this very much these days, the song alone sells itself very well on its own. The black outfit was cute but that dress wasn't really necessary.
06 - Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman
Another one of my not so favourites... this is pretty boring to go back to now. Of course it was to promote her movie Crossroads and even when the visuals of the canyon are very beautiful, and Britney look very beautiful indeed, everything is pretty stale and nothing really happens. And if the fact that this is a ballad is anyone's excuse for the lack of creativity in this, watch the video for Everytime to shut yourself up and reconsider, that's how you tell a story!
09 - Overprotected (Darkchild Remix)
Now this is how you make a cool video! I was so in love with this when released, I remember putting this on a very near level to Stronger. Nowadays I don't find very much happening in the video, but it was so beautifully filmed and the choreography is so amazing too, the rain part being my favourite. I thought Overprotected finally had the visual treatment it deserved, a shame I wasn't much of a fan of that remix, though. I guess she was trying to bond with the urban market in some way? Nevermind.
10 - Boys (Co-Ed Remix Ft. Pharrel)
I love love love this video! Amazingly filmed, her sex goddess look was in full force and that fierceness on her eyes, it was just too much. What I never really understood was Brad from Beverley Hills 90210 glimpse appearence on the video. My favourite from this is the high profile house party theme and her interaction with Austin Powers on the dancefloor.
08 - I Love Rock N' Roll
Very simple but quite effective. The motorbike scene is everything... EVERYTHING! Do we really need anything else? Also her dominatrix look with all the leather was very a very turn on factor.
09 - Me Against The Music (Ft. Madonna)
One of the best choregraphies she's ever delivered and a very Michael Jackson look, all along with having Madonna in there makes such a great video. The labrinth scene being the most clever part of the video for me, and with all that kiss frenzy from back then, the ending comes as such a tease it's unbelievable!
10 - Toxic
Was this even real? "BEST VIDEO EVER!" was my initial thought on this I had to pinch myself to see if it was happening or if it was just a dream. Britney was really back and ready to cement herself as a pop icon. In full female James Bond style, all the looks from this video are iconic in their own way, and I can't seriously single out one over the other. I was heartbroken when this didn't win any award at the 2004's MTV VMAs (they were such a big deal for me in my teenage days :( )
10 - Everytime
This is how you tell a story (I said it before, I know). Such a heart wrenching storyline, was this as predictive as the Lucky video? Maybe. This depicts the downside of being a pop superstar while coping with a relationship on the verge of a breakup. I don't think of this as much of an answer to Justin's Cry Me A River as everyone tried to point it out but more as Britney trying to tell a story mixing some real stuff (a breakup, the loss of privacy) with fiction (the imaginary suicide and the ghost of her running around the hospital as doctors try to save her life).
08 - My Prerogative
The wedding video, and a very dark wedding this was! I love the visuals from this, the darkness from it all and the scenes of her in bed with that out of this world body (my favourite look from her ever!). Even K-Fed gets my approval on this, lmao!
06 - Do Somethin'
Too girlie, too pink and a bit cheap for my liking maybe? It's very enjoyable nonetheless and the scenes with those black pants and bikini top are everything. Did I mention her body was looking out of this world at the time? Probably my least favourite part of the video is the pink SUV one trying to emulate a "ride in the clouds"... it annoys me actually.
08 - Someday (I Will Understand)
Pregantney! With Sean Preston still in the oven (how could I, I know), this seems very artistic to my eyes. I also like that this was filmed in black and white, it gives the video a very mysterious vibe. My favourite part is the "no moment will be more true than the moment I look at you" one where she's standing in front of the mirror, touching her belly and suddenly feels a presence behind her.
08 - Gimme More
This was probably the hardest video to rate, probably because, as I said before, my rate is based on a balance between what I thought of the video at the time it was released and what I think of it now.
Back in 2007, eveything regarding Britney was a mix of fear, disappointment and extreme loyalty for me. It was a very turbulent year for both her and her fans, or at least this is how I interprete things now that we're far and away from that. I remember I was very expectant of this video, especially after craving for new Britney music/visuals for years at the time, the disappointing VMAs performance (that I still enjoyed very much in spite of all things) and all the pictures we got from the filming that got us predicting how iconic, amazing it was going to be. My initial reaction was of course and once again, disappointment. But back then I really settled for such trivial things, like how amazing she looked despite everything that happened to her. Nowadays I put this video much much higher than I used to, for me now, this represents very well that period of her life and the state she was in. I don't know why but I even consider this with some level of iconicness (does this word even exist?).
10 - Piece Of Me
Loved it back then, love it now. The second video from Blackout and actually very surprised we managed to get another one considering things. This video/song is so representative of everything Britney was living at the time, and the fact that she took such an "in your face" message and transform it in such a statement music wise was very uplifting and made me very proud.
08 - Break The Ice
Animé! This is very underrated, but I think it really did its job. I know it would'v been nice to see Britney in her own video but the storyline is amazing and the cartoon is very beautifully crafted.
10 - Womanizer
Britney was back! And what a better way to portrait her comeback with a Joseph Kahn directed video? The man really knows how to make everything perfect for Britney! Of course this is not her best video ever, but the filming, editing, etc was amazing! This was also Britney going back to her primeney looks, especially on that naked scene and the limousine driver scene. One of the best videos of 2008 for sure!
10 - Circus
I must admit I appreciate this a lot more now than I did back then. Back in 2009 I was pretty annoyed with the editing on this, preventing us from watching the choreography in full, but as time passed I realised this was more than just an excuse to showcase Britney had her dancing ability back, this is actually very artistic. The ringleader look is king!
09 - If You Seek Amy
The circus era vids were all pretty amazing, weren't they? This one particularly reflects something that might be true, or might not be... that we actually don't know pants about what happens to her behind closed doors. Even when this depicts a raunchy reality of what might happen, in all fairness I think the real message is: "I put my mask on and go outside to see the world". Or I might be reading too much into it, I don't know. My favourite thing about this video is how incredible she looks, the mini dance scene with the guys in that basement/dark room is quite beautifully sketched and the over the top orgy-styled party was quite clever, imo.
06 - Radar
The horse porn actually makes for half of its score. Kidding. She looked amazing, I give her that, but the plot was pretty boring in my opinion. The high profile wife look wasn't very believable in my eyes, what I liked the most from this was the spying scenes with her in that black dress and in the corridors of the mansion.
06 - 3
The director's cut was actually so much better than the version we're rating here. This video really lacked substance, it was supposedly an excuse to showcase her moves, but even those weren't amazing ones. The black and white shots could've resulted in a very artistry form of video, but it just wouldn't work for me in some ways. All the points from this are awarded solely on how beautiful she looked on the close-up shots. Seriously, I'm not sure I've seen her look that beautiful, ever.
10 - Hold It Against Me
Regardless of the position this gets, I think this video deserves an honorary mention for being the most underrated video in the history of Britney's career. This really tried (and achieved, in my opinion) to capture Britney's whole career in an artistic, different, rather weird way. The elevation into superstardom, the crazyness it created represented in the painting spree, the inner fights and the resurgence were all described very on spot.
09 - Till The World Ends
And the world didn't end... I always like to see this as a continuation of I'm A Slave 4 U in terms of image. And it also felt like there was poop all over the place when it wasn't (gotta love ha). The demand to see Britney as a dancer was out of control back then, with the use of body doubles making fans outrage, and therefore we were given a "dance version" along with the official one. I really enjoy this regardless, the moves were very good as from what I can gather from it and the editing was very well done.
07 - I Wanna Go
Quite weird of a video which I'm not sure it worked for Britney. My favourite part is the press conference, other than that she looks pretty bored everywhere else and the car scene doesn't make any sense, not that it intended to, but it doesn't do it for me for some reason.
09 - Criminal
This is quite a video! With a plot and it seems like a mini movie, which makes me enjoy this very much. Of course it co-stars her then fiancé Jason Trawick, not that anyone cared. I love her looks at the party, she looked very beautiful there, and the last scene a la Bonnie & Clyde is amazing. I love the fact that they manage to escape from the police... Criminalney :P
07 - Scream & Shout (With Will.I.Am)
Hmmmm.... her looks were fierce in this (and especially in the remix video which we don't get the opportunity to rate), but that's much about it. This attempts to gain momentum with all the futuristic stuff, but it actually comes as quite ridiculous and weird. Britney really saves the day with her persona... it's Britney bitch!
05 - Ooh La La
Ouch... not a great fan, tbf. Okay, it IS adorable that her kids and niece appear and everything smurfs related, but I'm old and bitter now and it never clicked on me to enjoy it very much, sorry.
10 - Work Bitch
Britney the dancer's comeback. The joy this video gave me when I first watched it back in late 2013 is unbelievable, I was very proud to see her slay the whole thing: from the amazing looks to the attitude and dancing, it bought me instantly and uppered the song even more to a level that I even consider it very memorable. Underrated as hell, I prefer to consider this a true gem since it never got the opportunity to smash the way it really deserved.
04 - Perfume
Meh, bleh, fleh... Joseph Kahn? Why would her team censor this video to the extent of not letting us see the real plot behind it? It was very promising, shame.
07 - Pretty Girls (With Iggy Azalea)
Very silly but enjoyable nonetheless. With such a catalogue, this really doesn't stand much a chance. Iggy looks amazing on the club scene and Britney looks like she really is enjoying herself.
