RIP Thread
No! Madonna is not dead. This is a thread of people that have been involved with Madonna's work in some way. David Collins http://cdni.condenast.co.uk/320x480/k_n/MM788811.jpg Madonna with David at the GQ awards in 2007 where she presented him with inspirational man of the year award. David Collins, who has died aged 58, was the designer behind many of the most recognised and glamorous names in the restaurant industry – from the bar at Claridge’s to the Wolseley. Eschewing the then-prevalent fashion for chintz, Collins opted instead for comfortable seating, saturated colour and a wide variety of textures. A devotee of leading modernist designers, he was fond of quoting Mies van der Rohe’s most famous maxim: “God is in the details.” As a result he might employ 17 different shades of blue to paint one wall, or commission custom-built furniture and ironmongery. Particular care was always taken over lighting, partly because his mother, Helen, had once complained that lighting was always terrible in restaurants. Yet he aimed not to be too reverential. “The whole experience should be fun,” he insisted. Collins founded his eponymous firm in 1985, and since then his refined, luxurious style has reached well beyond London to restaurants, hotels and private homes from Moscow to New York. Madonna was a great admirer, commissioning him to design a friend’s nightclub in Miami, and he even had a writing credit on her 1998 single Drowned World/Substitute For Love. With a mischievous regard for media curiosity, Collins hung a 6ft by 8ft photograph of the star outside his boardroom. But he also had his critics, most famously the late Michael Winner, who complained that Collins’s designs, based mainly on “a variety of dreary brown paint”, seemed to have become ubiquitous in London. Collins responded with characteristic good humour, insisting that the critic need not trouble himself too much, because by then he was “rarely” working in the capital city. “I’m more focused on global domination,” he noted. The contretemps was soon forgotten however; shortly afterwards Winner cut the ribbon on Collins’s Belvedere restaurant for Marco Pierre White. The youngest of four children, David Collins was born on March 1 1955 in Dublin, where his father, Jack, worked as an architect. From an early age David had a strong eye for colour and light – a childhood memory of his pale blue bedroom would inform much of his later portfolio, most strikingly the Blue Bar at the Berkeley Hotel. Early Hollywood glamour was another great influence, and he would spend many hours in the local library, browsing black-and-white photographs of film stars. As a teenager he toured Rome and Paris, taking in the famous Café Flore in St Germain. After St Conleth’s School he was intent on a career in law. But he turned to design when he realised that he lacked the relevant qualifications in Latin. After studying at the Bolton Street School of Architecture he got into interior design at the request of a friend, who wanted someone to help redecorate a new house. “'I knew nothing,” Collins later confessed. “I’d never even seen The World of Interiors. But luckily the guy knew what he wanted, and his ex-wife helped me find the materials.” By a second stroke of luck, the friend in question was an acquaintance of the chef Pierre Koffmann, who liked the finished interior and commissioned Collins to work on the refurbishment of his restaurant, La Tante Claire, on Royal Hospital Road in Chelsea. Collins took inspiration from the name of Koffman’s daughter Camille, infusing the interior with the deep pinks and ivory of the camellia flower. The result was an elegant space that was also bright and welcoming. Marco Pierre White, who was then starting out, soon became another admirer. In 1987 the chef opened Harvey’s. Only a year later he asked Collins to update it. Again, the renovation was considered a great success. Later Collins worked in collaboration with the Maybourne Group, owner of Claridge’s, the Connaught and the Berkeley. The partnership resulted in redesigns of the bars at all three of the celebrated hotels. Collins then added to his roster of work at famous London locations when, from 1998, he worked with Chris Corbin and Jeremy King of Rex Restaurant Associates on five establishments, among them the Delaunay and the Wolseley. Away from his work, David Collins was a collector of fine and decorative art. His London apartment, remodelled around two properties in the 1990s, was furnished in shades of blue and lavender, with a lacquer table and brown leather sofas that he designed himself. He loved jazz and was also an avid card player. He continued to work, most recently with the luxury leather goods brand Jimmy Choo, until he was diagnosed with a virulent form of skin cancer just three weeks ago. David Collins, born March 1 1955, died July 17 2013 Madonna herself posted this on Instagram: In memory of David Collins he was a great talent and loyal friend for 17 years!! GOD Bless him may he R.I.P. http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/musite/Nieuws%202013/164240_10151775455199402_894428107_n.jpg

Warner's Releases
Like A Prayer - 25th anniversary edition Today, it was announced that Madonna is going to re-release her 1989 classic album "Like a Prayer" Even though a date hasn't been set, Madonna finally agreed with Warner Brothers to celebrate the album's 25th year anniversary. The re-released album will have a couple of never before heard tracks that didn't make it to the final album. There will also be a "Like a Prayer" app that contains many things Madonna fans will go crazy for, including a scene from the "Like a Prayer" video where she jumps off a diving board at UCLA and belly flops in a pool. The main camera missed the shot, but one of the low quality video assist cameras got it. The app will also feature footage of Madonna in the studio with producer Patrick Leonard. It is believed that Warner Brothers is trying to make an agreement with Pepsi in order to re-release the "Like a Prayer" commercial, which was banned because of the controversial video. UPDATE Warner confirm there's no plans to re issue Like A Prayer.
