Surprised by the lack of love for Brasstronaut, thought it's fairly decent.

I think few people in here are familiar enough with my taste to guess my entry, although judging by the points, a few people do however share said taste.

I quite like the symbols actually, makes it easy to instantly see if my entry got any points. Sadly it seems the song I entered first is doing a whole lot better than the one I changed to :(

The Wire on BBC2
For me the end of season 2 was the point at which I really started understanding the magnitude of the show. The way the characters' stories unfolded in such an unpredictable yet, when looking back, completely inevitable fashion was simply brilliant. It's a portrait of a society, and an excellent one at that, so keep watching :)

The Weeknd 'House of Balloons/Thursday/Echoes of Silence'
I think it's pretty bad compared to the brilliant original, hadn't given much thought to how censoring the songs could pose a problem.

濁 UNKNOWN PLEASURES 濁 10 濁 VOTING
Finally sent my votes. Generally thought it was a somewhat poor rendition, and I had slight trouble coming up with 12 songs. Very curious to see which song wins though.

Frank Ocean - channel ORANGE
I initially thought it just needed time to grow, but after quite a few plays, I must say I'm a bit disappointed with this. It is ambitious, which I love, but there's just something lacking in the sound for me. Unlike Nostalgia Ultra, Channel Orange contains very few songs that I want to listen to over and over again.

濁 UNKNOWN PLEASURES 濁 10 濁 CONFIRMATION
There hasn't really been the usual attention around this it would seem, could have to do with people still being on vacation, the completely dead release schedule over the summer or it could just be random.

UNKNOWN PLEASURES IX!
:heehee: My entrant gets boring after 20 listens or so, but is brilliant until then. Will just have to pray nobody listens to the playlist too many times.

UNKNOWN PLEASURES IX!
Feel I have my most competitive entrant yet, so I'm very much looking forward to the next rendition.

Antony and the Johnsons 'Cut the World'
Really like the song. Loved the few of his tracks I've listened to from him/her, but haven't gotten around to listening to a full album yet, but this is a good an occasion as any.

Mumford & Sons : 'I Will Wait' // 'Babel'
Absolutely loved the debut, but haven't liked any of their new stuff yet, I expect to be disappointed.

BJ CD SWAP #3 / reviews + reveal!!
Finally feel I have a good overview of my cd. It's very alt-pop'ish, not a genre I dabble in a lot. Initially I found very few songs that I thought I’d ever end up liking, but given time I’ve come to like quite a few of them. The playlist hasn’t been a revelation, but it has added some good songs to my music library. I’m a bit unsure about the name of the album, The Journey, as it suggests that there is a theme and sort of narrative to the album, I must admit I have been unable to find this, this could however be my fault. I don’t use a 1-10 system for rating, but just write down the ratings I’ve given them in my iTunes library, basically it means all the bad ratings are collapsed into the rating 1, while a rating of 2 or more means it’s a good song. Thus: 1 = Song I’m unlikely to listen to in the future. (1-5) 2 = Songs that will enter into my shuffle playlist, but are unlikely to be actively selected by me for playing in the future. (6-7) 3= Good songs, that will actively feature in my future playlists or already do. (7-8) 4= Really good songs that I will likely listen to a lot and for a long time. (9-10) 5= All time favourites, rarely use this category. (9-10) 1. I’m fairly confident this is Kent, and I absolutely love Kent, although I don’t know this track. I have to say I find it to be far from their best track, although not a bad track as such (2/5) 2. I have no idea who made this, it’s pretty decent though. Very hard to describe the sound, sort of brooding and dark female vocal, yet fairly uptempo (3/5) 3. Female singer again, a slightly repetitive track, which would probably be good if I liked the parts it repeats. (1/5 4. And another Female vocal, I get the feeling it’s Swedish, from the way the lyrics are pronounced, not a bad track, but not really my taste. (1-2/5) 5. Back to male vocals, yet another track that really doesn’t fall into my taste. Electronic repetitive track, with a guy saying “I wanna make you move your body”, I’d imagine people into this type of music would like it though. (1/5) 6. Female singer that I don’t know, while I like the sort of loud and bombastic sound in parts of the song, overall it’s not something I’m gonna listen to again. This does however finish the initial tsunami of songs that I don’t like. (1/5) 7. More female alt-pop, not entirely sure how to describe it, actually I guess I’m just truly horrible at describing the genre in general. Anyways it’s a good song. (2-3/5) 8. Very electric/instrumental and slightly progressive track, where the vocal is not necessarily the focus of the song, I quite like it. (2-3/5) 9. Very very poppy love song loaded with clichés, I usually hate these songs…usually, this one has quite built on me, as it has some sort of quality that I can’t really describe, in the end it’s actually one of my favourites. (3/5) 10. Another love song with male vocal a bit more downbeat and way less poppy, and the background voice performing as instrument (not sure of the correct term) works out quite well. (2-3) 11. Up tempo female pop, got a feeling this would have done decent in Unknown Pleasures. Not really my usual style, but I quite like it, very catchy. (3-4/5) 12. Male lead alt pop, bordering powerpop at times, I must admit that I don’t like it. (1/5) 13. Down tempo pop song with female singer accompanied by piano, I imagine a few of the users on the forum would like it, I have however always been slightly bored with this sort music. (1/5) 14. This was the first song that struck me, as I knew I had heard the bocal before somewhere. It’s alt/indie rock, and definitely more my style, probably my favourite of the bunch. I googled the lyrics, and turns out it’s East Harlem by Beirut. (4/5) 15. Very dramatic and sort of epic female vocal, not sure what genre to put it in, probably alt poprock. This is quite a good track and I certainly haven’t listened to it for the last time. (3/5) 16. This track reminds me a bit of Blue Gowns, which was entered in UP5, not because of the sound, but because of the similarity in theme lyrically, similar use of a very female vocal and vivid imagery (Finishes with “Can I spend my life trying to climb you”). 17. Very electronic alt pop, it’s decent, but other people would probably enjoy it more than me. (2/5) 18. As I absolutely love a good dreamy or pompous album finisher, I was obviously hoping for this here. The album creator instead went with a very bombastic and staccato-filled song, which was not really my taste, regardless of where on the album it would have been placed. (1/5) I do feel slightly sorry for the creator of the album, as it could hardly have been more of a mismatch between sound and genres of the album, and musical taste of the receiver. I have however been very happy to listen to the album, as I’ve found some good songs out of the genres I normally listen to. Overall score: 6/10 I’m not really familiar with the taste of a lot of people in here, so I’ll take a blind guess and say Gooddelta made this one. If somebody doesn't receive a review, I'll be more than happy to review another album.

BJ CD SWAP #3 / reviews + reveal!!
I'll be reviewing 'The Journey' soonish. It's very alt-pop, not a genre I listen to a lot, so prefered to give it time and a lot of listens, instead of just rating everything low when it doesn't catch on initially.

BJ CD SWAP #3 / reviews + reveal!!
This is mine. I'm really really pleased you liked it. When I first saw you received it, I checked your previous posts and found your charts loaded with upbeat music. I was horrified. I tried to make sure there was a bit of everything, but as you've noticed, there's a tendency towards slow tracks, thus deciding on the album ender was probably the hardest part, as so many of the tracks could have worked. 1. I Got You on Tape 'Somersault' - Thought it'd work as a nice moodsetting intro 2. The Floor is Made of Lava 'Told her I'm from Compton' - A track from the debut of this Danish rock group. Their first album had a true f***itall attitude with lyrics mainly revolving around picking up girls, this probably came from not intending for the songs to ever end up on an album in the first place. Check out 'Do your sister' and 'Happy Monday' for songs similar to this one in sound and quality. 3. Spleen United 'Groundspeed' - It's a bit of a shame I didn't go with one of their more upbeat tracks, but this is my favourite on their recent album, so decided to go with it. 4. Dry the River 'Bible Belt' - I really like Dry the River, and would probably have entered this one in UP if they hadn't started becoming a bit too well known. This one was really a grower for me, and I absolutely love the climax. 5. Godspeed You! Black Emperor 'The Dead Flag Blues' - Probably the most odd track in the compilation. It's post-rock, and as opposed to you I sort of like the post-apocalyptic and very moodsetting monologue that starts the track accompanied by light strings. I could easily see people rating this much lower than you did though, as it really is a strange track. 6. Trentemøller 'Take me into your skin' - Not much to say here, glad you like it. 7. The Knife 'Marble House' - Actually not the biggest fan of this duo's sound in general, but I like the sort of somber lyrics together with the energetic music, and this song is quite nice along with Neverland from the same album. If the female vocal sounds familiar, it could be because she also features in 'What else is there' by Röyksopp 8. 'Wolf the the XX' - I have no idea who made this track, Thomsen just linked to its youtube video a while ago. It's a mashup of TV on the Radio's 'Wolf like me' and Intro by The XX. Both tracks can easily stand on their own, but I do feel that the sum of the product is greater than the sum of the parts here. 9. Mew 'Comforting Sounds' - The original long album version of 'Comforting Sounds'. Probably my own favourite of the compilation, just such a truly epic and moodsetting piece. Just listened to Birdy's version, but must say I very much prefer the dreaminess of Mew's more minimalistic original. 10. Silversun Pickups 'Growing old is getting old' - I can understand why this isn't your favourite. I like the slow buildup and the climax, although the noiserock part of it annoys me. 11. Beach House 'Myth' - Feared you'd know this one, as it's the debut single of their new album. 12. The Antlers 'Two' - Went with the perhaps most upbeat track from the utterly and stunningly brilliant 'Hospice' album, and probably also the most easily accesible one, seems it turned out to be a good choice. 13. Magenta Skycode 'This Empty Crow' - This really just had to end the compilation. The way the last 2 minutes of the track just sort of make you disappear into a cloud of sound has made me play this over and over again. If The Horrors are anything like this, I'll have to go listen to them. Thanks for the fine review, really nice to see that the compilation was appreciated.
