Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
Sharing the love for Kraftwerk. A monumental band in my formative listening although strangely The Model isn't among my very top favourites.

Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
From the 70s so far, again all brilliant choices, but obviously Kate, Blondie's Heart of Glass was one of the first singles I ever owned (bought for me) and The Wall is one of my top 3 albums of all time (the others being The Holy Bible, and The Dreaming). And I think I'd probably try to shoehorn about 9 Bowie song in if I could but Life on Mars? is hard to beat.

Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
#01 The Ronettes - 'Be My Baby' (1963) #02 The Beatles - 'Tomorrow Never Knows' (1966) #03 The Mamas & The Papas - 'California Dreamin’ (1965) #04 The Animals - 'The House of the Rising Sun' (1964) #05 Ben E. King - 'Stand By Me' (1961) #06 Procol Harum - 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' (1967) #07 The Rolling Stones - 'Paint It, Black' (1966) #08 The Beach Boys - 'God Only Knows' (1966) #09 The Doors - 'Light My Fire' (1967) #10 The Velvet Underground & Nico - 'Venus In Furs' (1967) That's a stonking top 10 and I couldn't possibly argue with any of them, although naturally mine would be quite different. The '60s is one of my favourite decades, particularly 1965 onwards, with the Psychedelic and garage scene being so creative. Paint It, Black remains my favourite song of all time still, so that the Velvets and The Animals would probably make my top 10 if I could ever narrow it down

Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
Actually it's from this song primarily. It's enchanted me since I was a kid. I'd say it's about 70% Velvets and 30% the Banshee as the inspiration, but he took his name from this song too and I was aware of all this when I chose it. This is a great idea and will be checking this thread out properly in a minute. I got one post in and had to reply! A cracking start so far.

2026 Formula One Season
Not even close to one of the greatest drives. Probably not even Antonelli's best this year. It was good, don't get me wrong, but you put the best engine/battery package in the car with the best aero design, on a power circuit where it can breeze passed all opposition with ease, where there's minimal tyre deg and the high speed corners are taken at 40kph slower than last year and this is what you get. Antonelli is fast no doubt about that but not one driver bar Russell, made any real attempt to keep him behind because they all knew it was a lost cause. There were a few genuinely good overtakes under braking but this was closer in Indycar style oval racing than F1, just without the same high speed corners, concrete walls and thin line of grip. And indycar is a spec series so is naturally closer in car performance. The only real question was which Merc was gonna win. And the best driver did.

Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible Live
And yet conversely to the above it is my favourite Manics album and my favourite album of all time. Additionally the band were never better live than at this point in time. Yeah, I'm interested.

Not sure it's a new album myself. Everything in that clip seems to be audio and video from The Holy Bible era

At least five there I've seen live (including my own) and two more I'm familiar with so a stack load I don't know. John Fogerty sticks out like a neon sign at first glance

Every time this comes on I get half way through the track before I remember it's not actually by Dinosaur Pile-Up but by Royal Blood. It's uncanny

Yeah I think a fair chunk of that list are artists that we would all be familiar with to some degree and from my point of view I like to pick things that would be new to people, even if they might now the name. Which is ironic for me to say as I actually felt I went way too obvious this time.

The Odyssey • 17th July 2026
In all honesty I watched this before I saw the 'controversy' around the language and have to say that I didn't even notice it that much. It's a massive departure from conventions of fantasy characters speaking in English accents but it didn't register that much with me. What I did find a bit strange was the rewriting of Odysseus's character. It's kind of there in moments but he's much more humble and likeable in this which makes him seem far more relateable and empathetic, whereas he was always previously written as full of hubris and arrogance, which is why he has to suffer so much. I think a little more could have been done to flesh out the supporting characters ideally but as brilliant as the film is visually I felt it really needed to be tackled like Dune was and have perhaps 2 films to properly tell the whole story. Possibly because the story is perhaps the most familiar in all history, (second only to the New Testament?) they felt comfortable with breezing through Scylla & Caribdes and the Sirens and ignoring 'the bed test', the Lotus Eaters and the bag of winds entirely. Might have been worth putting Achilles' shade in there too but that's a minor quibble. Felt a little like the first half took its time to get in to the details and then rushed the second half of the journey but the ending reclaims lost ground and brings it home in style. That said it is a film where every cast member knocks it out of the park - especially Hathaway and Morton (Oscar nods?) - and it's hard to find fault in. As a treatise of PTSD it works really well and I think Nolan deliberately leaves just enough room that you can interpret it as having much of his travels as playing out in Oddyseus's mind, since he's clearly positioned as an unreliable narrator.

2026 Formula One Season
Lewis was hard done by in Belgium with the collision. I can see why it was given but just like in football it's down to the referees opinion on the day. He's not the only one who's ever been on the end of a tough call and he won't be the last. Rather than Lewis being unlucky with the jump start because others have been let off, I'd prefer to see any driver registered as moving before the lights go out penalised.

2026 Formula One Season
It was nice to see someone actually overtake under braking and Hungary is one of the best tracks to work around the battery issues. Ferrari blew it again of course and Oscar was very unlucky as he looked to be managing his pace well until Ferrari forced his hand. Would have been interesting to see how it played out between just the 2 McLaren's though I think Lando had the pace to overcut eventually. Lewis can moan all he likes about the penalty but it if your speeding there's no defence. He's reminding very much of Schumacher in his final Ferrari year. Pace is there often but making lots of errors. Looks like Antonelli very much has this season under control if he takes more of a Prost/Brabham approach in the 2nd half. Collect the pointa and when you can, win whilst going as slowly as possible.

Your Live Music Wish Lists
I have just been having a discussion about wish lists and regrets on live music so thought it might be interesting to see what others might have to contribute on this. Who are you top 10 bucket list artists to see perform live that you still haven't and who are your top 10 that you regret not seeing but no longer can. For the former it has to still be possible - i.e. not dead or split up and still performing live regularly. For the latter it has to be reasonable that you could have seen them - i.e. you were old enough when they were still around. Let's say old enough to go on your own so at least 15 years old (which rules out Queen for me) Here's my lists (not in any order) - Bucket list 01 Joan Jett 02 Rammstein 03 Nine Inch Nails 04 Slipknot 05 Napalm Death 06 Taylor Swift 07 Bob Dylan 08 Public Enemy 09 Betty Boo 10 Tori Amos Regrets 01 Prince 02 Siouxsie & the Banshees (did see Siouxsie solo though) 03 R.E.M. 04 Motorhead 05 The Smiths (did see Morrissey's infamous Madstock show) 06 Black Sabbath 07 Soundgarden 08 The Pogues 09 Danielle Dax 10 Fleetwood Mac

Consistent Album Releases
I can't be bothered to list them all but Prince released 37 studio albums between 1978 and 2015, averaging 1 per year. This neglects to factor in the stacks of unreleased material from this period. This number does not include the cancelled Black Album or any compilations or live recordings. It should also be noted that several are double albums or more.
